Lots of selections!!! If not because of the cute cookies in the front of the restaurant, I would have just walked by this place. The people were nice. Great service and they seem like those mom/pop type of restaurant who’s been around for years. We had a Shepherds pie, Cowboy quiche, and salmon goat cheese quiches — all were good. Each of them came with side dish of cucumber tomatoes bowl or fruit bowl plus bread with butter. We also had juices: mine was beets pineapple carrot juice, and my sister had kale cucumber apple juice. I enjoyed drinking my ‘red’ juice, it was so refreshing. We ate outside while watching people walking by. It was a great lunch.

The staff at the counter is nice. I particularly enjoy the soups with their bread. The cookies displayed in the front are cute but pretty ordinary and don’t taste phenomenal. I like any of their sandwiches with a sprinkle of lemon pepper. I usually take out because sometimes it’s busy, so it’s nice that they are in a convenient location in the heart of town.

We stopped by for a mid morning nosh. No espresso drinks as their machine was broken. OK, no big deal, we got cokes and hot tea. The deal killer was a hard and stale croissant and a very bad potato cake from the deli. The potato cake seemed to be made of something other than potatoes, The rhubarb, strawberry pie serving was deemed OK by all in our party of four. The ladies at the counter seemed nice but the food needs work.

A lot of people have great lunches here but we decided to try their breakfast. It was great. They have a breakfast special: scrambled eggs, fruit salad, potato pancakes, Italian bread, for 7.50 and a very large fresh with pulp orange juice for 2.50. You order at the counter and then they bring it to your table. Very good value/taste. We picked up a bag of their day old pastries at half price; still good for 2 days in the microwave. We frequent this La Jolla institution every 2 months.

I live across the street and like to head over for a quick veggie sandwich when I’m feeling lazy. The sandwich is huge and delicious. Sometimes a bit of a line but never more that five minutes.

I love Girard Gourmet for lunch and dinner! For lunch their salads are so tasty and fresh especially the Cobb with fresh balsamic dressing and for dinner I love their lasagna! Their carrot soup is so yummy and comes with homemade bread!!!

Dank food and friendly staff… restroom is for customers only, but used it twice in one day before eating there and didn’t hear a word or get a second glacé. Absolutely LOVE the chicken parmesan, I got it to go to eat at lunch at work tomorrow and ended up eating it cold as soon as I got home because one bite was not enough. Staff said hello to my doggie daughter, who remained outside, which was sweet. Also, they have A TON of fabulous sides too. Wish this place were to be closer to home, that’s for sure!

When to La Jolla Cove earlier in the morning and this was one of the few places where we can grab a quick bite to eat before going snorkeling. We didn’t want anything big since we were going to stare at some fish and seaweed in 30 minutes so we got a shepherd pie and a mac and cheese. I won’t leave you hanging and just say it wasn’t anything special. The shepherd pie was premade and was reheated to order. Sadly the one job of reheating didn’t go as planned. Parts of the pie were heated but other parts were still cool. The type of ying and yang you don’t want. The mac and cheese was straight up normal. Friendly people, but I can just hang out with my friends since the food was eh. Too mean? Eh, too lazy to delete.

I work close by so I go here at least 2 times a week. I LOVE their food because it has a very«home cooked meal» feel. Like you’re coming home to your grandma’s cooking. My favorite is their lemon pepper salmon with roasted veggies. I usually switch off between that and a half soup, half sandwich combo. They always serve generously and always offer a side of Italian or wheat bread as a side with any order. If I can give 3.5 stars, I would because their food is very good, but the reason why I would deduct 1.5 stars is because of their horrible customer service. I’ve even experienced bad service from Diana, the owner… yikes. They could also keep the dining area tidier. The tables smell like they’ve been wiped down by reused wet and dirty towels. Besides the service, the food is great and keeps me coming back!

Tasty cookies, but nothing extraordinary. Bought a couple for dessert, but they were a lot drier then I was expecting. Maybe because we were getting them at the end of the day? I doubt it though, because most of them looked like they were going to be sold for following days… Maybe with a glass of milk?

Best quiche in La Jolla. Come here for quiche obviously, it has a nice crumbly crust, an egg filling that’s firm yet soft, and the ham and cheese tends to be spread throughout the slice evenly. Service is always with a smile and it’s nice as a regular they have started to memorize my order. With the slice of quiche you get a side of cucumber or fruit salad. Cucumber salad had nice hunks of cherry tomatoes with a light vinaigrette. The fruit salad is good as well but I’m not much of a cantaloupe fan. Plus you get slices of bread, after tax totals $ 8.10, can’t beat it! Their cookies are house made and very artistic, they have a San Diego cookie with the hotel del Coronado in the background. They are a deli so they do have a wide array of options for sandwiches, soups, and other items to take away. Definitely one of my favorite places in the cove for lunch, they also have 4 outdoor tables for customers only thing is I wish they had a few more. But as its a small long store front they might not be permitted too.

Are you craving something good and at the same time healthy? I would definitely consider this place. I was on a lunch stroll and I saw the delectably great looking cookies by the window. Their plow work since I was drawn in. I did order the lunch special which is soup and sandwich. Pastrami will be my go to order. The atmosphere was relax and it is a no frill type of eatery.

Terrible service Out of pot pies after told they would be ready in 15 minutes. Shepard’s Pie was ok. Cookies were good, especially the frosted ones with flowers. Not a particularly nice setting.

Terrible and rude service. Extremely unprofessional. We placed an order at 12:49 for delivery. At 13:24 we got a text message that there is no lamb stew. They didn’t even have the courtesy to call us. I called them myself and apparently there was stew, but now there was no one deliver it. Alternative was to wait another 20 minutes. It has already been an hour and we were hungry so we agreed. And then all of a sudden the guys on the phone went«oh, we don’t have turkey broccoli anymore». What was being done in the past hour? I asked to cancel the order and the guy just hung up. No «I am sorry» or «I apologize». With such attitude, they could spitting on your food. Never going anywhere near that place.

Was walking by when these beautiful cookies caught my eyes. They were truly eye candy, and the miniature pies so inviting. This little bakery was cozy and had a back area that felt intimate and home like. The salmon looked delicious and so did the many pastas and salads but the pies were the most inviting. I couldn’t decide between the homemade looking chicken pot pie and the Shepard’s pie which I had never tried and the baker who was very friendly suggested I try the Shepard’s pie since I never had it. So I ordered the Shepard’s pie and a slice of the Mac and cheese which they heated up and served to me. I went outside to the bench in front just outside because it was such a beautiful evening, and boy lemme tell ya! Best way to describe this meal is simply Mmmmmm Mmmmm yea yea!!! the Shepard’s pie was so tasty! With its bits of crumbled meaty beef and lamb in a pie crust with a crusting of mash potatoes and peas and onions. It was amazing and it all blended together perfectly the mac and cheese was tasty too. Meanwhile I eyed the couple next to me who had a sandwich of the day which looked equally delicious. Definitely a new pit stop at La Jolla for me!

Oh GROSS! You can see one of MANY bluish-green mold spots between the 2 cranberries in the Pumpkin Pear Cranberry pie that I just pre-ordered and picked up 48 hours ago from Girard Gourmet on Wednesday evening for thanksgiving! To my great embarrassment, I also sent my guests home with some leftover pies! Clearly these pies weren’t too fresh when I bought them the day before yesterday, only 48 hours ago.)-; As instructed by the lady who is the owner or manager of Girard Gourmet, I stored the pies overnight in the coolest place in my house(not in the frig), and served them the next afternoon for an early thanksgiving meal. We then refrigerated the leftover pie for 1 night. Just discovered the mold! Fresh pie doesn’t mold this fast. I’ve really lost my faith in Girard Gourmet. The review below was written earlier today, before I discovered the mold on the leftover pumpkin pear cranberry pie: We were disappointed in our thanksgiving pies this year, which I pre-ordered from Girard Gourmet. The pies were expensive, and were ok, but none of them were outstanding. The pecan was everyone’s favorite, as the crust had a pleasant crunch. But the pecans were only on top, and the pie could have used pecans in the filling. The apple pie was recommended by the staff member, as he said the baker was from Belgium. The apple pies looked beautiful, but while the apples were tasty, the crust was too soft. The pumpkin pear cranberry pies looked far less attractive than they did last year. The filling had lots of cracks in it, and didn’t adhere together well. They tasted bland and too dry.(Last year I had an excellent pumpkin pear pie before thanksgiving.) I picked up my pies at the exact time that I had stated when I ordered the pies. Yet they were confused about my order, and they ran out of 1 of my pies. Fortunately I had ordered a generous number of pies, so I still had enough for my guests. I won’t order pies from this bakery again. French Gourmet is more consistent. I stored my pies overnight in a cool spot in my house, as instructed, and not in the frig. What Girard gourmet does best is soup and sandwiches. I like the turkey sandwich with soup. The cauliflower soup is great, with chunks of cauliflower. I’ve never had a bad soup here. I also like the chocolate macadamia coffee. Ladies, there’s no toilet here for customers. Girard gourmet has lost a regular customer. I’ve been going there for years for soup and sandwiches. But I’m very disappointed that they sold me old pumpkin pear cranberry pies, and for a high price! And with the lady manager or owner standing right there overseeing the sale!)-; Even worse is that I ordered my pies in advance and picked them up on time!!! It’s insulting.

This place is just OK to grab a quick bite, a soda, juice etc Their baked godos are not very fresh but the flavor is decent It is of course quite expensive and there are never enough seats in the ¨patio¨ Good, quick service Note that all the prepared food has a lot of oil Today i had a roasted beet salad(Beets were not roasted) for $ 11 Again pricey but i had no time between appts and it was healthy enough

My friend and I were walking around La Jolla looking for food. We saw a line from this place so decided to give it a try. She ordered the Chicken Curry Sandwich + Clam Chowder and I got the Eggplant, Pesto, and Cheese Sandwich. The bread was nice and toasty and the veggies were heated thru. My friend really enjoyed her chicken curry sandwich. Food was 3 stars, but there service here is 5 stars. The staff is so nice and friendly. The old lady making my sandwich was amazingly sweet!
