I’ve never gotten my kitchen knives sharpened before. I used to think it was quite a superfluous thing, I mean, as long as they can cut, that’s fine, right? Which, true, but if you spend more than even a cursory amount of time in the kitchen, you know what a pain in the ass it can be when it takes you twice as long as it should to chop your vegetables, or when you can’t slice your tomatoes thin enough, or when you accidentally(and hypothetically) cut the tip of your finger off because your dull knife slipped. So, in the spirit of efficient, streamlined living, I decided to give knife sharpening a go. I’d seen Pete’s stand at the Silver Lake farmers’ market months ago, even got his card. I went by a few weeks ago, but he wasn’t there, and with a little Internet research, realized he now made weekly stops at the Atwater Village market. This morning, I bundled up my knives in kitchen towels, packed them in a bag and made the trek over the Hyperion Blvd. bridge(a good excuse for some exercise, too). I dropped them off at Pete’s and was told that he’d send a text when they were ready – how ingenious. I went and bought some apples and bread, met some friends for brunch at Canelé, then retrieved my newly-sharp knives(payments can be made in cash or with a card). My roommate and I tried them out, and they cut effortlessly through lemons and greens, with hardly any pressure. I am legitimately excited to cook again! I highly recommend Pete and his operation.

I noticed Pete’s pop up knife sharpening business a few weeks ago at the Glendale farmer’s market on Thursdays along Brand Blvd. I somehow remembered to bring my knives with me two weeks later and was really happy, I’ve been meaning to get some of my older knives including my 8 year old forschner, my first chef’s knife ever, and things are as good as new. He even was able to save a sushi knife, a gift from a close friend, that was completely rusted over from abuse at the hands of a house sitter. Great guy, super good work.

Simply. .. . T H E B E S T ! ! ! I met Pete at the Monrovia Friday Night Festival and Street Fair. He caught my eye because not only have I been meaning to bring my knives in for a good sharpening for a LOOONG time, but there was quite a line and buzz around his super-awesome tent, so it seems he already had some loyal and enthusiastic customers. The first week, I just brought in a few of my mid-grade knives. He was quick, the price was great, and the knives are unbelievable! The second week I brought in my really expensive German and Japanese knives and was really impressed with the care that he took. But I think I am most impressed about how he breathed new life into some of my inexpensive, low-grade knives — even they are slicing though everything like butter now! Pete is kind, easy to talk to and a straight shooter. I highly recommend him and his services. You won’t ever regret having a wonderfully-sharpened knives in your kitchen, garage, or pocket!

I had brought a set of BBQ utensil from a trip to Argentina and I needed someone to sharpen the knife from the set. I wanted somebody who would take care of the knife while they would do the sharpening. Without telling Pete that this was an important knife to me. He sharpened the knife and offered to polish the set for free. Thank you Pete! I will be back soon.

Pete did an excellent job on my knives and was knowledgeable about them. He pointed about a few flaws in them that I then asked the manufacture about. The manufacturer them ended up replacing them at no cost. Super great guy to deal with and excellent craftsman.

Super knowledgable and very skilled! If your like me and can hardly ever find the time in the kitchen/busy life, sharpening all your armament can be time consuming. So me being in a bind took them to Pete! That was time well spent with the family at the farmers market, thank you Pete

Very happy with the service. Knives are great and the customer service was excellent. Pricing was great and he takes cards which is convenient. Even our rusty bread knife came out looking and working just like new. I highly recommend Pete and his same day service.

After Pete did an awesome job sharpening a number of my kitchen knives, I brought him the crappy blade for my crappy hand planer. He did an awesome job bringing the blade to a mirror finish and it shaves wood way better than it did before. I’m a novice woodworker and Pete took some time to explain to me how to keep the blade honed between uses even giving me some material I could use to hone the blade at home. The more I get into woodworking the more I understand how important blades are to various processes and the more respect I have for the care Pete takes with his work. Since I’m not kitted out yet to sharpen at home, I will definitely be bringing my blades kitchen and otherwise to Pete for sharpening at his reasonable prices.

Pete did a great job putting a new edge on my shun santoku knife. It had a crack maybe a quarter inch long running vertically from the blade into the steel. It was unusable, and probably spreading, so pete took off enough steel to give me a nice new edge above the crack. Real happy, and it only cost me a 20.

I bought a straight razor I found online with a blade made in China for 6 bucks. After finally using it I noticed that the blade pulled my beard hair too much. I was so happy to see that Pete had a kiosk open near me. he sharpened my razor fast and with so much skill! I would definitely return to Pete but luckily I haven’t had to due to his great work.

I had a knife I wanted to take the belt clip off of. Pete had a hex head set he let me use, and when I stripped the screw heads he helped me out by grinding the screw heads off, prying the clip and polishing the screw posts down flush with the knife handle. He also has a really cool rare spyderco knife with a locking ball mechanism that looks badass. Pete was fun to talk to, has a well-equipped booth for a variety of blades and applications, and obviously enjoys and takes pride in his work. Take your sharp metal things to him!
