This was our first time there. We won’t go again. It was hot and we stopped at to get a cold beer. Guy behind the bar hands me a beer and says it’s not very cold I don’t know why. It was warm. We ordered a burger which was your mill of the run bugger and fries were almost cold. It’s located in Angeles National Forest which makes for nice scenery.

Great place to ride and see the motorcycles. The food/service, could be better. I paid $ 12 for a lousy Cesar Salad– literally lettuce and a few croutons. I even asked for the dressing on the side but nope it was drenched. My bf ordered two beers from our server. We never received it. Later he asked another server walking by… never received the beers. Finally(before he blew his stack!) I went up to the bar and ordered the beers. How hard it is to bring two drinks… in a bottle(not even made)! Yes, good area to ride, bikes great, but don’t expect much when you go in.

I have never so consistently patronized a place that is so mediocre or even poor. I understand that the staff can get busy during the weekend motorcycle morning rush. But it is chaotic. Service is spotty. Many mistakes are always made. Busy is one thing, and disorganization something else. The poor service seems to be more kitchen dependent rather than on the waitstaff, but who knows. And lately they have been falling back on a simplified menu on a postcard. Service takes forever, mistakes are made, and the food is lousy. I usually just take in the scene, and rather go hungry than wait around for menus, wait around for coffee, and then get lousy food. I wonder if it has something to do with keeping good products and good staff in such a remote location that doesn’t have business a few days a week during some seasons? Nevertheless, the description above is accurate. Besides the motorcycle scene, the best thing about the place is the availability of coffee, wifi, and booze. Otherwise, it is a 30 mile drive to La Canada or Wrightwood.

Note: this is a review for the people who run this business. My boyfriend and I hit a rock on the way up the mountain to see the snow. The rock ripped a hole in the transmission pan and made it so our car couldn’t make it back down the mountain. Thankfully, we were able to coast down to Newcomb’s Ranch. When we got there, they were closed and unfortunately the pay phone was nonfunctional. After several failed attempts at using their wifi to contact aaa, thankfully one of the employees got there early. She not only helped us by letting us use the phone and facilities as much as we wanted, she gave us food, water, and drinks while we waited 4 hours for the tow truck to come. We could not be MORE thankful for her, we might still be stuck on that mountain if it wasn’t for her.

Cool place to stop in the middle of the mountain. Ortega burger was pretty decent. Bar tender was very kind. Wifi needs a major overhaul.

This place is exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. It’s a classic roadside diner with California-style. Our breakfast was really delicious and reasonable for LA prices. The atmosphere was relaxed and the outdoor seating was a great option. I really enjoyed my Stoner Bowl with super crisp hashbrowns, savory breakfast sausage, firm scrambled eggs and a really delicious salsa. My boyfriend really liked his pancakes, too. Overall I would highly recommend a stop at Newcomb’s Ranch, just please be careful on your drive to/from the restaurant.

I love the San Gabriel mountains, and Newcombs Ranch has a monopoly on your choice of restaraunts especially when highway 2 is closed for the winter. While many people complain about their service, I think their service is fine. My only complaints are the mediocre food quality, as well as closing their restaraunt on days when they should be open. They also cater to mostly motor cyclists, which are their main customers. While this is good for their businees, their television always has motor cycle racing on which to me, is uninteresting. I used to go up there at least once or twice per week, but now I don’t bother taking the trip. Too bad, because this place has huge potential.

A great place for brunch if you’re driving along the Angeles Crest Highway. I was super hungry by the time we got here and I ordered the Lumberjack omelette! It comes with bacon, sausage, ham, pepper, jack cheese, along with some hash browns and your choice of toast. Expect it to be very filling! The omelette was HUGE! This place can be crowded. Luckily we were seated and we barely made it to request for the last breakfast order for the day. Breakfast ends around 1130 before they start the lunch menu. Overall, the food was delicious and super filling. Prices reasonable. Service is friendly, and there’s plenty of parking.

This is one of the best scenic rides that the area has to offer. I’m pretty much a regular because I enjoy the ride so much. You go to Newcomb’s Ranch because it’s there and it has a history. Bikers are a brotherhood and this is a great location for us to meet and talk about our passion. That being said, the food is pretty okay but the service always ruins my day, even though I always prepare myself in advance for the disappointment. The service at Newcomb’s is usually poor, most of the staff thinks that they are too cool to work there and they act like they are doing you a favor by taking the time to talk to you. I’m going to assume that owner either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that his staff treats customers poorly. He or She certainly does know that there is no competition anywhere around so maybe its great day when people just show up for work. I had good service their once, once in countless visits. I’ve only ever written one review and I’m doing it because the last time I was there I had a hard time getting a cup of coffee and a harder time trying to pay for it. I’ve come to the conclusion that my time there is better spent enjoying the ride and the natural beauty that ACH has to offer. I’ve read reviews about people driving all the way from wherever and were dissapointed, people this is not a place you go as a destination, the journey is the best part. I won’t stop going their but if things don’t change I WILL stop spending money there.

Finally got a regular work day off to ride up Angeles Crest :-) Was a pretty pleasant ride 100 degree heat aside. Place is bigger than I expected and very comfortable inside. Pool tables and a descent size bar. At 3 or so on a Friday afternoon were only a handful of people there. I ordered a chipotle chicken sandwich which was pretty spicy actually. Thick fillet of breast I believe. It really hit the spot. We sat outside on one of the handful of patio tables and took in the scenery. Every so often riders would go whizzing past and some would stop by. All and all was a very pleasant experience aided a bit by the free WiFi ;-)

What a awesome place! Staying at a nearby campground and came here because it’s the only place within 30 miles… But! Not only do they have wifi(no service anywhere for miles and miles) but also super delicious food! Having their chicken sandwich with zucchini fries! Delicious!

It’s my heaven on earth. the ride/drive up just so addicting and I’ve made some wonderfull friends up here as well including the bartenders and servers. I have been going up the Crest in the past 3 years, every weekends, sometimes 4x in a weekend and during the week too. Having the Ranch up there made the experience completes.

Came here with the brother for breakfast on a Saturday morning after having some fun hugging the twisty road up ACH. The server was a really nice guy, ensuring that we are doing fine, and engaging us in conversations whenever he is free. This restaurant has a rustic feel to it, which was really nice, especially after a drive. I ordered a breakfast burrito while my brother had pancakes and bacon. The servings were relatively huge. The pancakes were fluffy and I really liked it. This restaurant is also a popular stop for motorcyclists/drivers to stop by for food after a drive up ACH. OH! and they have WiFi too! :)

Loved This Place!!! I was driving by here towards Lake Arrowhead with my mom and I didn’t even know that they close the road. We got off here and the bikers outside let us know that we have to turn back around. We decided to stay and have a little something to eat and omg! We ordered a sample plate from the appetizer menu and it was bomb. The portion size was huge, enough for at least 6 people. Amazing chicken tenders, onion rings, french fries and zuccini sticks. Yum yum yum! The bartender that took our order was an absolute sweetheart! The other people there seemed like regulars, also super friendly and talkative. If this place wasn’t an hour away from me, I would go there all the time!

Been wanting to try this place for a long time so today my girl friend and I took an hour and a half trip up Angeles Crest Hwy to come check this place out after work. We arrived around 3:30 and walk in and we are immediately told that it’s closed for the day cause they haven’t met there quota for the day so the manager called in and told him to close down. There was another group that had just walked in before us and was told the same thing. The other group told the guy he had drove over an hour to get there the guy laughed and said all he could do is get you a soda ONLY if you have cash. So disappointed we waisted are time to come check this place out. I think it would take a lot for us to want to take another hour and half out of our day to able to try their food. We will see. You might want to call before coming here cause they just might happen to close for the day. Save your gas.

I am honestly so disappointed in this place. Took an hour and a half trip with the boyfriend up Angeles Crest Hwy to come check this place out after work. We arrived around 3:30 and walk in and we are immediately told that it’s closed for the day cause it was slow. Not to mention there was another group that had just walked in before us and was told the same thing. How can you keep a business like this open when you turn people away just because you felt like closing for the day? SO disappointed in you Newcombs. I think it would take a lot for me to want to trek another hour and half to actually be able to try their food. We will see. You might want to call before coming here cause they just might happen to close for the day. Save your gas.

My friends and I really enjoy riding our motorcycles up and down Angeles Crest Highway and Newcombs Ranch is where we always end up. We like to ride pretty early to avoid the traffic, so you can typically find me ordering breakfast items here. I’ve had the oatmeal with fruit, and I’ve also tried the McNewcomb, which is my go-to breakfast item as of late. Once in a while i’ll get a cup of coffee, but I like to stick to water and hydrate during my rides. The food here is average, and the prices are a little steep for what you get, but the view outside the restaurant is outstanding, and the staff is always friendly. Also, as an added bonus they’ll show SBK and MotoGP races during racing season! And on Valentine’s Day 2÷14÷15 they gave all the women a beautiful long-stemmed rose, which really melted my cold/black heart. Embarrassing fact: I dropped a bike here after parking on an incline, and I was so ashamed that I never wanted to show my face again, but everyone was so helpful and nice about it. After some time passed and my ego was restored back to its original state, I came back, and I’ve been coming back ever since #becausemotorcycles!

This place is great for a break from the road to/from a trip in the mountains. You might pay a little bit more for an okay meal, but it is completely worthwhile if you enjoy sitting outdoors and people watching. They have indoor seating and a bar as well if that’s more your style. The servers were all super nice and responsive. Despite the fact that this place was packed with cyclists and bikers, my food came out without a long wait, and my water was kept filled. I sat outside and was happy that they were dog-friendly. I had the tuna melt(just okay) and my friend had the Big Pines ortega burger with grilled chicken subbed(seemed to be loved). I’d definitely recommend stopping by and relaxing for a bit here. My only complaint is directed toward the weird naked guy sleeping in his car outside of the place. That was just… a little unappetizing.

This is a roadhouse when you’re out playing off HWY2 in the Angeles national Forest and you work up an appetite. Big-time motorcycle enthusiast hang out as well as bicyclist and hikers. Everyone just out enjoying the scenery. Very low-key spot that is a bar and restaurant with pleasant staff, cold drinks, and a small but tasty menu.
