San Gabriel Peak has an elevation of 6,160′. It is easily accessible from the Red Box parking lot or Eaton Canyon Saddle lot. There are loose rocks under foot on the trail. The climb to the peak is not very steep from the fire road. Once on the top, there are nice 360 degree views. This climb can be easily combined with hiking to other peaks for a greater challenge.

Good short hike. Decent elevation to the top. Pretty hot hike in the summer so be sure to bring a bottle or two of water. Be careful I got bit on the foot by a rattlesnake at the top heading back down. Probably would’ve been fine if I wore hiking boots but wore nike’s and one fang went through the side mesh. I see rattlesnakes every single time I hike in the Angeles so make sure you have your eyes peeled. They are more prevalent near water sources which is why my incident was so unexpected, It’s really dry up there. It’s beautiful at the top right now Lots of flowers, bees and butterflies. There are some nice benches to rest and have a snack and enjoy the butterflies.

Great views, Pine Trees, deep canyons. This is the highest Peak in the front range and the views are decent. I would recommend doing Mount Lowe, Mount Disappointment & Mount Deception from San Gabriel. There are multiple ways to start this hike and the one from Red Box is my favorite to date.
