Food was great! Loved it! Ladies at the front were awesome too. Even though the outside had a facelift and all(looking good) the inside was still… meh. One of those hole in the wall spots that may not look like much but it’s a delicious TX secret! Better than most BBQ placed my Family and I’ve been to out here. Especially those other bigger named places. People keep talking about how famous Salt Lick is but I think this place is up there, maybe even a bit better and it’s much closer anyway!

Milt’s catered lunch for my school today: chicken, sausage, beans and potato salad. Everything was delicious. People that don’t eat potato salad normally, went back for seconds! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sausage was just right! Greg was very helpful with coordinating catering. Thanks, Milt’s!

Milt’s BBQ is great. They recently catered a Chamber of Commerce event and their brisket was exceptional. Their exterior remodel efforts look very nice too. Don’t rule Kyle out of the BBQ picture. Milt’s is my top pick.

I decided to try the Haystack. Pretty good stuff. Reminds me of the Gut Pack from Viteks in Waco. Not as good add the Gut Pack, but still good. I’ll come back again. I hear the burgers are good, so I might try that next time. It’s very casual. Nice outdoor seating area too. Not a date place, but a fun little BBQ dive. Simple but good… Just what I was looking for today.

They catered my wife’s surprise birthday party yesterday. Delivered on time; food was hot and amazing. A lot of guests that were not from this area raved about how amazing the food was. Great job and great service. Thank you guys again for helping to make this event a success.

Since we have moved back to South Austin, we have been looking for a good BBQ place. This place is definitely close enough for us to be regulars. The food was delicious. The brisket was amazing, very tender! The chicken had a great seasoning to it, along with the turkey. The jalapeño sausage was really great too!

Food was outstanding. Huge portions and great lunch specials with a good variety of foods. The pulled pork was DELICIOUS and the brisket was super yummy. For dessert the banana pudding was perfect. The peach cobbler was alright but a little fake not sure I would do that one again. But would definitely go back!

Maybe trying Milt’s for the first time on Valentine’s Day Sunday wasn’t the best idea. Maybe something was a bit off that day, but their BBQ just didn’t do it for us. We ordered the family meal with the brisket and the sausage. For the sides we got beans and the potato salad. Strike one, the brisket was cold. Flavor was decent and it was fatty enough but not much meat as the pieces were cut way thin. The sausage was better than the brisket, but again, didn’t really stand out. The winner of the meal was the potato salad. Not too creamy, with great seasoning and enough crunch from the celery and onions. The sauce was pretty good too. Staff seemed nice enough. I guess I’m used to staff that interacts with the customers. Asks what your likes are, gives you tastes, and makes it a memorable experience. Especially on a day like Valentine’s Day. Overall, I think that being in an area where you can’t throw a rock in any direction without hitting a BBQ joint, you have to really stand out and wow the customer. Based off of this one experience, I’d stick to places like Hays Co. BBQ or Blacks where we get more bang for our buck and the atmosphere is better. Every restaurant has it’s off days, so we’ll go back to Milts in hopes of a better meal.

I love Milts and always recommend it to everyone visiting from out of town. We are lucky in Kyle to have such great BBQ right on Center St.

I didn’t end up going into the eatery, but I did get a plate of Turkey, potato salad, bbq sauce, pickles, and onions. The turkey was very moist and the potato salad was delish too. I don’t normally eat BBQ, but this place i could eat over and over again. My mother had the ribs, potato salad, beans, and bbq sauce. my brother and mother said that they were super moist and some of the best in Kyle. We ended up going about 15 min before closing and getting the last bits of what they had. I do plan to go back and try the chicken when I can. Since i am not a true eater of BBQ I can’t give you a flavor profile type opinion, but I do know this place is worth a trip :)

My 1st time. Nice and clean. Not overpowered by the barbque scent. Sides were ok(green beans and beans). The brownie was very yummy! The sweet tea — just right! Awesome sausage! Huge a** ribs — jurassic park dino size. But the brisket — succulent, juicy, tasty… mmmm. Very nice, respectful, interactive employees –a rarity nowadays. Next time I’m going to try the bbq stuffed potato(:

Pros: Fast Friendly Inexpensive Local. Cons: The barbecue sauce is too sweet. My husband and I stopped here on our way home to Austin. This place is convenient to the interstate. We had the Haystack($ 8.99) and added sausage($ 1.00) and then a quarter-pound of turkey($ 2.25). The Haystack is a stack of Fritos corn chips, beans, brisket, and grated cheddar. I really liked it!!! My husband thought it was fine, but the brisket was a little sweet for his taste. We both agreed that it would be better without the added sausage. We didn’t think the sausage was very good. Also, I thought the barbecue sauce was pretty gross. :(Sorry Milt, but it was just too sweet and vinegary. The pepper sauce, however, was really good. I didn’t use much, because I don’t love spicy food, but my husband doused the pepper sauce on his food and loved it. :) Not amazing. We would go back if we were in the area again. We wouldn’t take out-of-town friends there. But I’m glad we stopped by. FYI, it’s BYOB.

Meh. Nothing memorable or special about Milt’s Pit BBQ, except maybe that it is one of the limited eateries to choose from in Kyle, TX. Quick takeout order. The hubby and I can usually split a multi-meat plate. Opted for the «Big Man Binge» bbq plate — sounded promising. Came with brisket, ribs, sausage, two sides of choice, and a medium drink for $ 15.99. Not a lot of bang for your buck… and, yes, I’m accustomed to dishing out the $$$ for good Q. Included: A few thin slices of on-the-dry side brisket. Certainly not«fatty»(a.k.a. moist) brisket. Lacked any depth of flavor and that crust that makes brisket so wonderful. A couple of small ribs, tender, fall off the bone; however, again, on the bland side. One link sausage, sliced, good sear, actually liked it, even though sausage isn’t usually my fav. Other reviewers raved about Milt’s beans, but failed to state green or bbq so decided to get each. Super duper small sides; beans were beans were beans. Huh? To go container/bag had one little sad piece of bread in it, no Texas obligatory sliced white onions, only one pathetic dill chip, and no sauce — which I usually forego(good Q doesn’t need it and it’s actually considered sacrilege [in Texas anyway], like putting A1 on a prime ribeye); however, this Q could’ve used a lil«help.» Sadly, I doubt I’ll be a repeat offender when/if in Kyle… unless maybe for a burger from the«Grill» as several others have suggested. «There’s your sign!» If folks are sending you to a Q joint and recommending the burgers, well… enough said IMO. Merp. Just A-OK. [136 in 2015]

Guess it’s time for an update… Now it’s 2015 and a lot has changed at Milt’s Pit BBQ. They are NOW located on Center Street in Kyle(they were on the IH-35 feeder road when my original post was published in 2009), Milt and Bunnie sold the restaurant to Greg and Kimi(who are amazingly great folks as well) a year or so ago and they have expanded their menu. I’m happy to say… it’s just as awesome as I said it was 6 years ago. and in addition to the still stellar BBQ, they have some really, REALLY good hamburgers… and I am in awe of their fried okra. Makes it really hard to decide what to eat… I feel like I’m cheating on The Haystack when I order a burger… but I think it understands. I had the Haystack yesterday for lunch… and it was as good as ever. Don’t worry burger. I’ll come back for you soon… They have been able to achieve the same level of awesome food for over 6 years… and through location and ownership change. That is pretty stellar. Someone posted on my food porn pic I instagramed yesterday«They have the best BBQ in Central Texas and therefore the world.» I find it hard to argue with that statement.

French fries and the Big Red soda were fantastic! The burger was too pink for my liking and was really a sloppy mess without much flavor. The smoked turkey was a decently sized portion and very tasty. The beans and potato salad are consistently good. The chop beef sandwich was little dry, but was fixed by adding some extra sauce. They beat Dickies hands down, but I’d still like to see a Bill Miller come to town.

Let me start by saying that my friend and I had a fantastic experience here today. This place is easy to find, has nicely written chalk board menus posted up high, not too bad of a line and most importantly, excellent barbecue. When we came in, we were met by the owner, who was running the register and taking orders which was really cool. We then stepped over and got our drinks, and picked a booth by the window. It was decently busy but there was plenty of room — just before the lunch rush. They were quick to bring it to the table too, just a few minutes after we sat down. So why not five stars? Let’s break this down into meats. Turkey: Fairly good eats… nice rub on the outside, no smoke ring but full of flavor and moist. Milt’s turkey fared well when compared to my past favs and go-to’s. Great job. Brisket: My friend ordered the brisket — and it was visually dry. She said that it was decent tasting, but it was, in fact dry. Bummer. Chicken: Spectacular. Moist, flavorful… everything you could ask for from chicken. My personal favs on chicken are,(in this specific order) Black’s first, Snow’s in Lexington, then one particularly good day,(that has never been repeated) at Cooper’s in Llano. That was my list, until today. Now it goes Black’s, Milt’s, Snow’s and Coopers. Seriously guys, you knocked our socks off. So, if it wouldn’t have been for the brisket, this would be five stars hands down. The sides were even good, which is uncommonly paired with good barbecue — you either have good que, or you have good sides… usually not both. Honestly, what really brought you guys down is that here on Unilocal, the raves were about your brisket — and we expected damn good brisket. Dry brisket was a big bummer, so I can only offer four stars. That chicken though… solid. My friend and I will definitely be telling our friends, and bringing our husbands. you’ve got something good going on here and we like it!
