Fred Meyer

Yesterday evening I was called by store management to find out how to resolve the problem I wrote about earlier. The bottom line is that I was given a sincere apology and my $ 85 I was shorted before. It was a good feeling that they cared enough to right a previous wrong. I respect that and will continue to shop there. Thanks for not letting me down, Freddy! I deducted 1 star for the hassle but was treated well at the end. Unilocal works with some. :)

Normally I would rate locations like this three stars, but now that I know this Fred Meyer well I feel it merits the four star rating not for the services it offers but for the secrets it holds.
Secrets:
There is one parking spot that is not restricted (handicapped, reserved, or electric only) on the side near the garden entrance. Super close, rarely used, and gets you in easily.
The garden entrance has multiple separate checkouts; they work really well when the rest of the store is busy.
The pet cleaner can be found in two places in the store, so when the primary location (pet aisle) is out, search back by the vacuums and you can find a secondary stash.
The café can actually make large containers of soup to go for an event even though they don’t offer that size of soup normally.
They have fresh humus (not just the prepacked stuff). You simply have to ask as the display is not always out.
To rent a rug cleaner quickly, go to customer service rather than the checkout lines. They can process the transaction there.
This Fred Meyer sells stamps, Good to Go passes (toll lanes), event tickets (for things at Marymoor or the Kirkland waterfront) at customer service. They don’t have a listing that they have them so you’ll have to ask.
One of the cashiers ran for Kirkland City Council this last election. His name is Jory. If you see him tell him you voted for him to make his day.
No gas points? The self checkout lines always spit out a survey request that if completed can net you 50 or 100 points. If you use your card at the station attached to the store, you’ll always at least get 3 cents off a gallon even if you have no gas points.
Lastly, during the Halloween season, this location does a charity event where they help underprivileged families get school and winter gear (Fred Meyer gives the families $ 500 credit). It gets really crowded during it, but it is really generous and kind.

The store is very close by to my house and they have very reasonable prices. Their parking lot can be a mad house of people cutting you off and driving crazy, but that’s just outside. Inside the interior is well kept up and clean. The associates are always pleasant to me even when they look miserable.

As a retail manager, I am hard to impress but this store just AMAZED me.
I had come in yesterday on my lunch and purchased 3 skirts and my husband’s anniversary gift, which was a Seahawks t-​shirt and a playstation game. When I got home, hours later, I go to give my husband his gifts and they are not in my car! I have the bag with the three skirts, but no game and no Seahawks shirt! In a panic, I called the store, the gentleman said come in, bring your receipt and «we’ll investigate». I came in today, with my receipt in hand, as well as the bag with the 3 skirts. I spoke to Lorena, who made a call, someone behind the scenes was pulling the video from the time I was there. At this point, I’m assuming the worst, but you all know what assuming gets you… I am fully aware of how my whole situation looks to an outsider. I have pink and purple hair and piercings on my face. I’m telling them that I’m missing a bag with my 2 expensive items, but have the bag with my 3 clearance skirts. If someone was telling me this story, I’d be a little skeptical! It took about 10 minutes for the call back from security. The video showed that I didn’t get my 2^nd bag, the man behind me did. He didn’t turn it in, HOW RUDE. Since it hadn’t been turned in, I assumed (again with that word!!) that I’d have to repurchase the items. WRONG! The manager and Lorena told us to grab the items and they’d replace them for us! AMAZING! It’s not the store’s fault that the customer behind me stole my items. We are ecstatic at the service! But there’s more… When we came back with our items, we were also handed a $ 10 gift certificate «for our troubles». Granted we live in Everett (I work in Kirkland), so it was a drive to get back to this store, but they didn’t know that and we were happy enough that they wrote off $ 104.01, yes, the price of the 1 shirt and 1 game was over $ 100 (and my 3 skirts were only $ 25). From now on, I am a Fred Meyer girl! I will choose Fred Meyer over all other stores! THANK YOU FRED MEYER FOR SAVING MY ANNIVERSARY!

Pretty big store. Everything you need, and a super friendly staff. I was pretty impressed with the produce selection the first time I went there. I definitely recommend this place over the QFC on 124^th.

Whats not to like about Fred Meyer? FM Kirkland is retail one– stop shopping at its finest! I especially like this location-​its really nice with ample parking, and much less crowded than the Renton or Tacoma stores. Only one as nice as this one might be the Ballard or Alderwood locations.
I wouldn’t necessarily choose to come shopping here on a Sunday between 11 – 4 or after 8 when the produce has been picked over; but even then, the check-​stand lines are still way shorter than the Tacoma FM and when you go to customer service there isn’t even one crackhead looking to return something they neither bought themselves, nor was ever sold at any Fred Meyer to someone else.
Try the fried chicken and the mashed potatoes and gravy-​they are surprisingly good here! The one critique I have is that I wish they carried smaller sizes in apparel and shoes-​not everyone is larger than a woman’s size 10! I also wish they notified you when you had earned gas points because those points are time sensitive and I never think to use them until they are already expired.

I love my Fred Meyer at Totem Lake! I’ve e been shopping there for OMG forty years, and seen it go through many changes. After the recent remodel, it was a bit confusing, but the aisles are clearly marked, so no problem. The staff is always courteous and friendly. Always some one available to answer your questions, «where’s the and do you have». They’ll track it down for you.
The pharmacy is great, prompt and efficient. Rene in the pharmacy is a big help.
The prices are so much better than Safeway, or God forbid QFC.
As the saying goes, if they don’t have it, you don’t need it.

I started shopping at the Totem Lake Fred Meyer in 1992 so I’ve seen all its various incarnations.
The last 13 years, I have spent thousands of dollars per year on household, clothing, christmas, and grocery purchases at this store. But lately some things have happened that have caused me to question whether or not I should continue shopping there. Unfortunately it’s still the only big grocery store in the Totem Lake.

This location is so crazy busy in the grocery section every time I go there. It is almost TOO crowded. People running into others everywhere. Very big store and always so many options. Always have what I’m looking for. The only problem is that it’s a battle getting through there.

I like this Fred Meyer. Everyone is polite, it’s not overly crowded (except when the retirement home brings the old folks by for groceries and they WIPE OUT THE BANANAS), and the prices are really good.

Love this store! I am in there at least twice a week. Employees are great, super helpful, abundant and many have been there for years. Food prices are better than other stores around (QFC, Safeway) and it literally is one-​stop-​shopping going to Fred Meyer. The Starbucks in there is exceptional, too.

I buy almost all of my groceries at Fred Meyer in Kirkland, but today is the last day I ever buy any meat from them. The last several times I have been there, the meat was all brown and dated the day before, so the meat was old and old looking.
Today I bought some hamburger and thought it looked ok until I got it home and I was going to make meatloaf. It was all brown and smelled on the inside and I had to dump everything in the bowl.
I will NEVER buy any meat from Fred Meyer in Kirkland ever again! I have been very loyal and everything else about this store is great, not sure who is dropping the ball here.

I have mixed feelings about Fred Meyer.
First, it is a huge place. I feel like I can usually find what I want if I look hard enough. That being said, the «goods» area seems like a disaster to me. The isles seem so random and I don’t even know how they are organized. I tried finding 9V batteries once… and I found a ton of places where they had AA’s, AAA’s, C’s and D’s… I even found the specialty battery area (the little circle ones for hearing aids and other non-​standard sizes)… but it took forever to find 9V for whatever reason. On that same trip, I was looking for pressurized air for cleaning a computer. A helpful associate showed me where it was, but it was $ 9.00. I bought it, but that seems crazy. You can get them for like $ 4.50-$ 6.00 anywhere else.
The grocery section seems to be more reasonably laid out. One weird thing is that they put all the «hippie/​organic» food in one area, separate from everything else… so if you want regular old pasta, but organic, Annie’s, Mac’N’Cheese, you’ll find them 7 Aisles away from each other… Seems stupid to me. I never touch their product or meat section. Trader Joe’s just has SO MUCH BETTER stuff… like, times 100.
However, there are some things I just have to get here. Their liquor is relatively inexpensive. The beer section is half-​way decent, but doesn’t change very much. I wish they had a good craft beer section (with rotating/​seasonal/​limited releases) — then I wouldn’t have to go to BevMo in Bellevue. The bulk spices section is pretty cool. You can get what amounts to 2 jars of Chili Powder for less than half the price of 1 jar — which is always awesome. I also buy some frozen food, Cheez-​Its and a few miscellaneous items that I just can’t get at TJ’s.
Over all, this place is a necessary evil since it is so close to where I live, but I would rather go to Trader Joe’s and/​or Target any day.

What you need to know is that this a Fred Meyer, a local place that people here generally adore, like Dick’s Drive-​in and QFC… This is literally a place that we locals have grew up around, and it has generally everything you might ever want to ask for. It’s clean, the aisles are wide, lots of food stuffs, and it’s really never that busy when I’m there. I’m also there at 9pm, after work and the gym.
So why does this one get a good score? Because they have just about everything, and they are seasonal. Spring time? Their garden section is popping. Winter? They have shovels, salt and de-​icer. Now that everyone is on a «natural, organic, vegan, gluton-​free. whatever it is» they have that too!
I usually head to the grocery section is pretty large, and the food there is generally ripe, lots of assortments and very seasonal fruits and veggies.
Oh heck, I was in there today, and they have live Ladybugs for your garden… kinda impressed.

I avoided this place like the plague until the recent remodel. It is now light and bright, well organized, and has a nice selection of items at generally quite good prices. The produce selection is good. There’s an adequate selection of stuff in other categories –clothing, gardening, toys, whatever.
What I really like is the addition of a gas station next door — if you shop regularly at Freddy’s, you’ll accumulate enough fuel points on your card that the gas prices are quite good. Even better, there’s never a line for the gas.

Fore those about to repair footwear: WE SALUTE YOU!
Sometimes you just gotta have some glue that is shoe-​specific and that glue is Shoe Goo. It is a coveted compound material that the internet knows is superior for repairing shoes, like snowboard boots in my case.
Well, the difficulty is that you CAN’T find this stuff, anywhere. I tried Home Depot and Walgreens. Nothing. I searched the Fred Meyer website: nothing. I just happened to go into this store on a whim and there it was, in the hardware isle next to the paint (I had randomly asked an employee in produce and he had recommended two separate spots to find glue. He was friendly and helpful, unlike a pharmacy «vendor» who basically said not to bother her because she didn’t know about the store. She also did not have a good attitude about it. Thankfully, this was not a Fred Meyer employee. Without his recommendation, I may have left still frustrated and never knew that the glue had been there all along). Finally! Also, they even had it on sale and the large tube was not much more expensive and I was so sick of not finding it anywhere else that I went ahead and bought it.
Otherwise, this Fred Meyer location feels pleasant inside and they even have a lunch/​restaurant area. I thought the seasoned green beans were amazing when I had them, but the rest was just average. Still nice to have that in the store, though, as competing groceries stores like QFC don’t seem to have the meal deal or lunch special.
I have not been in the Seattle/​Kirkland area long and I have rarely been in Fred Meyer, but I was so happy to have found what I wanted with all of the compounding frustration from previous attempts that I was extremely pleased. If I continue to go to this location and they don’t deserve a 5-​star, then I will update my review.

Seriously don’t understand how this place is constantly busy anytime I go. Seriously senior citizen central, which is fine. But just be prepared for blocked aisles and walking painfully slow.
The self check-​out is great. Love this place for lunch since it has a microwave and beverage assortment right in the deli area.

This is not my regular Fred Myers as it is about an hour away from me and I frequent my local FMs. But my one time stop in here had me at such an awe that I had to write one. This place absolutely puts their sister stores to shame that I would consider the one hour drive to come here.
I was in town and needed to buy some flowers and after staring blankly at the section for a couple minutes I was greeted by Julie the florist. Sweet lady, She asked a few friendly questions on what I was looking for and helped me put together a beautiful personalized bouquet. Told me to do some shopping she’d have it ready for in a few minutes so I walked around.
I was amazed at how neat and clean and new everything looked. They had this cool self serve bar I’ve never seen at a FM before so of course I filled up a bowl and some food.
I bought some other things and went through the self check out… Even that was cooler than any other places I’ve seen! Of course the thing said I needed a clerk to swing by cause something was wrong the bagging thing but the clerk walked by with a smile and said hi and REMOTELY cleared the error. I’m nerdy, that’s cool to me. Every one was friendly, the place looked cool. That is all.

Great newly remodeled store with a large selection of just about everything you need.
This review however is targeted at the outstanding bakery team! Recently my husband and I hosted a 90’s party and we searched and searched for a reasonably priced Ninja Turtle cake. While doing my regular shopping I spoke to the bakery team and while they didn’t have a Ninja Turtle cake design, they told me that I can bring in my own toy or topper and they would put together a cake for me.
I found a Fondant shop on
and purchased a Ninja Turtle topper for $ 10. I then took it to the Fred Meyer bakery team and asked them to put it on a simple round cake and to just do what they think will look good. To say the least, they exceeded my expectations! I was blown away when I came back to pick up the cake and saw what they did. They took time to make the cake blend perfectly with the topper and it was such a great fit for the 90s theme! But how much was it? ONLY $ 25. I was shocked! I will be going to the Fred Meyer for all my upcoming parties. What a fun and affordable way to customize your themed party! I have uploaded pictures as well — you should see how great this bargain cake turned out for yourself!

It’s been a while since I visited this store. Since my last visit, this store did a remodel. There isn’t that side entrance to the store that there once was. The new store layout makes it look like the Issaquah location, though I am not loving this new transformation.
The grocery section of the store just doesn’t quite make sense to me in how they set it up. The perimeter of the grocery area which includes the deli, bakery, meat and seafood sections are fine. But it is just weird to see an aisle of paper plates and other similar items mixed with food products. It should one thing or the other. As a first time shopper after the remodel, I found it to be quite confusing.
I am a fan of Fred Meyer as they offer products at great prices. Usually better than QFC and Safeway. Though beware of their fish products. Generally they are reasonably priced, though most of it is previously frozen. As a result, when I open up the package at home they tend to be wet of fishy water. If you can, have them place the fish in a produce bag after it is weighed for less of a mess when opening.
I like Fred Meyer, but not so much this store. I will stick with the Bellevue and Redmond locations for my grocery needs.
