I’ve been coming here for over 15 years and it was my favorite fish and chips in the world, which is why I was so sad when I showed up, while on vacation, and the place is now Maui Taco. Too bad. I guess every good thing comes to an end. By the way, Maui Taco a’int bad.

This place sadly does not exist anymore. It’s now called Maui Tacos.

I was really surprised that the average Unilocal review is only 3 stars because I thought this place was amazing! I wasn’t expecting much, it looks like a total hole in the wall, but they food was so delicious! I got grilled shrimp and vegetables and it was so ono! I really appreciate that they had healthy options, that actually tasted good!

Go ahead and book that appointment for a triple bypass before you head over, because you will probably need it soon after. I’m not complaining — its a fish and chips place so of course there will be some fried foods! Wait, not some foods… everything is fried, even the veggies. Fish was good. The condiments are awesome and plentiful. It’s right across from the beach. The people working there are so nice and seem to mean well. I was in Hawaii, so it almost didn’t bother me at all that the food we ordered came out wrong twice. Good little place for quick, comforting, casual food.

Things that are awesome: fresh fish homemade sauces and dips Things that are not awesome: chips(fries) I’ve had everything on the menu and can’t pick a fav. Great beach food.

I always have been and always will be a fan of Alexander’s. It’s my first stop when I get to Maui. Very basic fried fish stand, but what ever they have going on in that batter is like crack. I tried the fried mushrooms, mahi mahi, ono, the fries. Everything is delicious. Cajun style is on point, but opt for mango salsa on the side. Grilled is tasty too. My favorite is the classic, Mahi Mahi Fried. Cheap too.

After a long day of swimming, surfing and boogie slamming, hit this deep fried fish and chips joint up… it’s salty, greasy and tasty. I’ve been coming to this little gem in Kihei for years when I’m on the island… good little spot to mix it up at. With the food on da island being so expensive this spot is a nice change of pace. Portions are big enough for a lumberjack. I see other reviews saying that it’s changed? I hope not. I love this place.

I recommend the fish taco. It was YUMMY! Definitely will stop by here when I’m in the neighborhood. Great place to grab some lunch.

Very disappointed in this place. I wasn’t expecting a five star meal but for forty bucks I shouldn’t get a couple pieces of fish, 3 shrimp and fries. Bought two meals and a kids meal. This place is price for tourist that don’t know better on how much they should pay for fish & chips.

Great place to eat if you are in the area! I was showering at night on the beach(had been camping in the Haleakala National Park for a few days and needed it) and found some locals hanging out. I asked«I need a place to eat fish, where would you go?» Three of the 5 quickly answered «Alexander’s Fish and Chips». The food was excellend, the décor was old school, like Rutt’s Hut in Clifton, NJ. They were out of Ahi, but the fried Ono was awesome!!! The cajun Mahi Mahi was just grilled fish dusted after cooking with a dry rub but is was delicious so deal with it. The batter for the fish was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I am a fish and chips fanatic. The place lost 1 star because the«chips» were crinkle cut freezer fries… tisk tisk. With«fish and chips» in the title, it should be required to be steak fries and you should never have to ask for malt vinegar(lost the other star)…other than that it was top notch.

On my last weekend getaway to Maui, I went back to my beloved Alexander’s only to have found they have changed the food. I guess they cut back and with the corners they’ve cut, they’ve cut the quality. I was sooo disappointed. I literally could have wept into my mahi mahi since I’ve raved about this place for years. My food was bland. I can deal with the portion size decreases, but the taste? Hell, the only other reason I eat is to stay alive. Unless I read better reviews of Alexander’s Fish & Chips between now and when next I go back to Maui, I’m not going back there. If I do, I’ll update my review then. Even now as I write this, I feel so sad as if something wonderful was taken from me.

I agree with the other reviewers regarding the portion sizes — several years ago they gave HUGE portions of fish. No longer the case. What you get is still delicious, but small. It’s still a good value, but not what it once was. The hapa rice(white & brown mixed) is definately NOT ½ and ½ — there’s a lot more white. If they charged a little more and didn’t act so cheap it would be a far better experience.

Alexander’s used to be my favorite place in Kihei. Oh, how I raved about this place… Just read John M. from San Jose’s review, and he took the words right out of my mouth, EXACTLY. So I’ll just copy & paste here below, because it’s so perfectly true: Not what it used to be. We were huge fans of Alexander’s: they do the most fabulous fish and chips; but they have gone cheap. Fish and Chips used to be several large pieces of fish and a moderate amount of chips, but now this is reversed. I got three small pieces of fish on top of a large plate of chips/fries. It is obvious they are trying to save money, but this is not what I came for. Fish is still great, but too little of it.

Anything fried, besides the fish, is terrible(fries were undercooked, sweet potato tempura was cut too thick and not cooked all the way). Portions are tiny for the price: Fish tacos were 2 tacos with romaine lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, and what was supposed to be mango salsa, but really mostly mango. One small piece of fish in each taco. Fish and chips is 3 small pieces of fish and undercooked fries. Fountain drink refills are 50cents. I expected more.

A very colorful local place. Great prices for the food. It was a tough choice between the fish and chips or fish tacos. In the end, fish and chips won. I got the tempura battered Ono with fries. Great fresh fish, nice batter. Warning though, the batter is greasy, greasy, greasy. The unlimited wedges of lemon help cuts the grease. We sat under the shade by the side of the building. Fun to just people watch. Can’t miss — the 2 roosters catching all the scraps people left, and chasing away other birds who want a piece of the action. All this right in front of busy S Kihei Rd.

We are HUGE fans of Alexanders, we go several times a visit to Maui. The kids came for the first time this trip and asked to go again and again. Why? Amazing fresh fish, mahi, ono, or ahi, broiled, fried or cajun. Plus chicken, shrimp, ribs, calamari… Great onion rings and the best purple sweet potatoe fries ever! Ugh, drooling at home thinking about them… Not a great place ambience wise with the street right infront and the tableclothes needing to be replaced but the food more than makes up for it. And the prices are pretty reasonable for Maui especially with the amount of food you get. The only thing that I would change would be to have beer on tap. Go you will not regret it.

Fish and chips! The best place to go for a casual meal in Kihei. You won’t be disappointed by the fried fish. Fish tacos also excellent. Everything is great with tartar sauce. Nothing special for ambiance. Just pick up your food and sit down at an outdoor table.
