Platform

I’ve lived here with my wife for three months now, and I have absolutely zero doubt in my mind that this place probably outclasses every other apartment building in Kent, and likely many beyond.
Where to start?
Pros:
* The management and maintenance staff are all exceptionally friendly, helpful as heck, and jaw-​droppingly pleasant to interact with. Every time I talk with them, they exceed all of my expectations. Massive, massive props.
* The rooftop party house area is awesome, and something that I have every intention of taking advantage of more and more as time goes by.
* The apartments themselves are great, with very good layouts. The hardwood flooring is a nice touch, and the appliances are all top-​tier. I’ve never had a washer or dryer that sings when you turn it on, which I’m still getting used to. The fact that second floor apartments have massive patios is a plus as well, if you’re able to snag one of them.
* The area is awesome. The shopping center across the street comes complete with sushi, a pub, Mexican food, slightly iffy pizza, and a fair bit more. They’re all chains as far as I’m aware, and perhaps not five star restaurants, but still — lots of good food for pretty decent prices. There’s also a cold stone creamery, and a very nice AMC theater. Beyond that, the area in general is very pleasant.
* The Kent Farmers Market is conveniently located at the end of the block.
* The fitness center is quite nice, and while it isn’t massive, has a variety of cardio machines, as well as weights and such. There’s also a separate room that offers video guided yoga, as well as other exercises.
* Free coffee in the lobby, for when I can’t be bothered to deal with my French press. Which is extremely frequent.
* Transit center two blocks away. A great deal of buses converge on it, allowing for easy transportation to Seattle and Renton. The Sounder commuter train stops there as well, making for amazingly painless transportation during commute times…
Cons:
* … sadly, while the proximity to the train tracks makes for extremely easy commutes into Seattle, it also means that you’re going to be hearing a fair bit of choo-​chooing while at home. It isn’t too bad though, and is easily adjusted to. Personally, I’d rate it as a non-​issue, but it’s probably worth taking into consideration. Still not as loud as living in Seattle — been there, done that, not doing it again.
I think that about covers most of the bases. This is easily the best apartment building I’ve lived in, and is easily deserving of far more than 3.5 stars on Unilocal.Take the one star review posted here with a grain of salt the size of Texas, or — better yet — disregard it entirely.

So far, living here has been going extremely well. The dog run is well-​maintained, our neighbors are friendly and respectful, the staff is always warm and accommodating, and everything in our apartment works very well. The place is expensive for what it is (especially considering that no utilities/​services at all are included in the monthly rent), but we knew that going in. The staff is religious about having weekly events on the rooftop, which I think is fantastic. I feel safe in the building and have never had issues with other tenants being loud or unwelcoming.
I think it would be great if the complex allowed more than just two pets per household (since tenants have to pay a security deposit and monthly fees anyway), and if you were allowed to have more than one parking space (again, since this is a separate fee), but I imagine the parking regulation is due to the fact that the building has limited spaces. I also felt some of the promotions in the complex were a bit of a façade (ie. «if you refer a friend to move in you receive $ 500», but there are apparently many unspoken exceptions to that rule), but besides these few things, I am very happy with making the choice to move into The Platform – love my apartment!

I have been living here for over a month so far and yes the staff are friendly and the area is nice but there are a couple things I’m pretty disappointed with.
Looks can be deceiving.
First off we heard about these apartments through craigslist. The offer stated half month free rent and a mini i pad. Our leasing agent that was assisting us specifically Michelle showed us a couple of the apartments and also mentioned that the parking is $ 65 a month. We told her we didn’t want a spot in the garage and asked where we can park our cars. She said and i quote,” On the street like on Harrison or 4^th.” So once we got approved and everything, we came to Michelle again to receive our keys for our room and again i asked her where do i park my car exactly. Im not from kent and i don’t know the area well except the kent station so i needed confirmation. And again I got the same answer,” On the street on Harrison or 4^th.” (and this entire time both the first and second time i asked about the parking, the OTHER leasing agent, Desire was sitting and listening to the entire thing and not saying anything as well) So I’m driving around those streets and see every single parking space is for only 2 hrs. I park there anyway because i really don’t know where else to go. And of course I ended up getting a ticket. I cant stand being lied to and given false information. I feel like i should have been told the truth that there is no where to park and that i have to purchase a spot in the garage. After i got my ticket, I told my fiancé to email the management and ask how much would a spot be in the garage. And the price that was $ 65 when we moved in became $ 105! Then after we moved in I asked Michelle when we would get our mini i pad that was promised. She told me after 31 days. Its been well over 31 days and we didn’t receive anything. I understand that the whole point of this business is to bring in tenets but you don’t have to lie and give false information to just have someone move in.
Then I noticed that our mailbox only had my fiances last name but not mine. (We have two different last names). So i write to the platforms facebook message box asking them to add my last name and they tell me they will tell the mailman. More than a month went by and they did nothing. I have a passport coming in and and packages as well. I’m constantly worried if ill receive anything or will it get send back to wherever it came from. So since my patience has ended, i had to go down myself and add my last name in our box. Im just frustrated with the fact that every single time I walk by the office, all I see is the leasing agents sitting around in their chairs, chit chatting with co workers. Is it really that hard to add a last name?
And Im waiting for these apartments to be on apartmentratings online to tell my experience. After this parking incident, I never look at this place the same way again.

We moved to The Plaftorm apartments in December, and have had an exceptional experience the whole time. They are constantly hosting resident events, which is a great way to get to know our neighbors. Our apartment is gorgeous, and we love how close we are to the train, bus, and Kent station. We have enjoyed getting to know Kent in a whole new light.
The staff is always really friendly and willing to help. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

Platform apartment definitely has a modern vibe. In addition, the workout amenities and being so close to kent station makes this apt complex perfect for young working professionals. Still waiting for the security features to be implemented.
