I worked here in the 90s and I was one of the last classes to see Mr. Shannon Rogers before he retired. I remember the parties that he brought to Kent State University. As a fashion museum card I got to watch some amazing people have fun.

I loved the displays here, I know nothing about fashion but the museum is connected to the KSU fashion school, which is one of the best in the world, and you often see fashion students in the museum which are more than willing to talk about the work. They had a display on modern fashion using fiber optics and polyvinyl which was fascinating, It is not expensive and they offer free admission for students.

The Kent State University Fashion Museum is named for and founded by New York dress designers Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman in 1983. It opened in 1985. Housed in the original(1927) KSU Library building it contains eight galleries of polished marble, glass and mirrors showcasing apparel and textiles. The founders started with a collection of 20,000 items from the 18th Century to the present. The oldest are costumes, of course. Chanel, Balmain, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Courreges, Valentino and Halston examples are studied and displayed by staff and students of the Fashion School at Kent State. There is also a small collection of American paintings and decorative art. The Tarter/Miller collection of 20th Century American Art Glass is the largest. The library in the museum is non-circulating, to be used by students and the public for research, by appointment only. To see everything will take the visitor several hours. The museum is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
