Foster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

I have trained at many gyms in the PNW and have yet to a family atmosphere that James and his students creat. Top notch instructors for both the adult class and kids class.

My son and I have been invited to FBJJ off and on for over a year by my former classmate. He would tell me about how much this place and it’s practitioners have change his life. I’m always excited when something like fitness or martial arts is able to transform someone and make them better.
Finally, a few weeks ago I was able to bring my son to take a class. I’ve been wanting to start jiu jitsu myself, but I wasn’t sure, because I’m already so busy. I wasn’t sure would have enough time to dedicate to it. After my son’s first class, he was hooked. He didn’t stop talking about how much he enjoyed it. When we got home he successfully showed me what he learned. I was really impressed that he had retained the information so well. His birthday was a few days later and he wanted to go back to FBJJ instead of having a pizza party. I decided I would try it out too and now I’m hooked. I’ve signed up my little family and we couldn’t be happier. It’s something that we can do together and talk about after we leave. Clearly… I liked it enough and have fit it into our regular schedule.
I’m new to the mats, but everyone is extremely welcoming, encouraging and helpful. Everyone really looks up to Professor Foster with admiration and respect. He has so many other athletes there that share a wealth of knowledge. They treat each other as family and my son and I are really lucky to have found such a great place to practice brazilian jiu jitsu.

Amazing BJJ Academy!
I made the mistake of going to another «school» to train Jiu Jitsu and after about 6 mo. I realized I was in the wrong place. I was left seeking a place that was both technical in its training and that had the right atmosphere for me. After coming in to train for the first night here at Fosters, I knew I was in the right place.
James Foster is an exceptional professor with sharp tact when it comes to teaching BJJ. You can tell that when teaching us, he is drawing from a long history of experience and not getting his info from the internet like some other places. He is also extremely patient with newbies and stresses the importance of safety and also emphasizes the importance of BJJ only being used in training, tournaments and in self defense situations only (which is critical for the kids). He doesnt put up with ego’s or any other idiocy, and tells us that this is a drama free zone, and that we are coming here to leave the drama of the outside world at the door (which is a huge plus for me, having dealt with nonsense before).
The assistant coaches (Rick, Bobbi, etc) are also very knowledgeable and push us to achieve our goals at every class. The conditioning during warm ups are perfect, as they have truly helped my cardio (which was seriously lacking) and I feel i’ve learned more in the 3 months of being at this school, that I ever did at the old place.
The students all come to train hard and dont treat each other as unequal counter parts, rather they go out of their way to help improve each others game.
I have brought a couple people from my old «school» to Fosters, and I intend to bring more of my friends to this wonderful academy.
You will never find a bad thing about James Foster or his school online, which says a lot about the reputation of both him and the people that train here. I am glad I made the switch for the better!

I trained here for a couple months and it was a great experience. Family and career priorities made it difficult for me to continue but I know someday I’ll be back. Coach Foster is extremely knowledgable and every instructor treated me with the utmost respect. They have a great 101 class which teaches the fundamentals to people like me with no martial arts experience.

James runs a great school for BJJ. If you’re interested in getting in shape by learning one of the most popular martial arts styles right now, this is a great place to do it. The group at Foster BJJ is friendly and ego-​free and the atmosphere is very supportive.
The school offers kids classes, adult classes in gi and no-​gi, and fields a competition team as well for kids and adults.
James is a 2^nd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has been active in the local Jiu Jitsu community for many years.
