Thanks to a Living Social deal, we had the pleasure of meeting Chef Giovanna of the French Truck. This was the best experience we’ve ever had from using a coupon. Everything was beyond all expectation thanks to our charismatic chef. The BYOB Crêpes Class was advertised«aimed to expand Your Culinary Repertoire.» The description of the class was«during the crêpes class, you and a friend will learn recipes and techniques for making traditional French crêpes. For second cooking class option, you can choose from Appetizers for Every Occasion, French Bistro Cooking… For all classes, appetizers will be provided and you’ll get to eat the meal that you cook while you sip on a BYOB drink.» And so we did just that and more. The class was a group of 6. We were greeted by our chef with a nicely lay out dinning table. And so we dived head into… the world of crepes. Chef Gia started us off with some easy and delicious bruschetta. We enjoyed these creation made fresh on the spot. Along with some wine everyone started talking. We learned our chef was trained at Le cordon bleu Paris. She was so down to earth and funny it put everyone at ease. She travelled extensively and had many interesting stories to share. If all we did was chat all night instead of cooking, I think the group would have been just fine with that. Chef Gia showed us how to make batter for our crepes and explained the rules of ratio to us. And then the real fun began. We each took turn to make our own crêpes. Chef was so patient with the group. It didn’t matter how long it took or how many time we messed up, she encouraged and help each of us. I love how small & intimate the class was. It really gave us time to get to know our classmate as well as plenty of one on one with our chef. The class was supposed to be 90 minutes class, but in truth, our chef let us go at our pace with much leisure. She spent over 2.5 hours with us, answering questions, sharing cooking tips, and other recipes. It was so much fun and informative at the same time. I really appreciate that our chef never rushed us and gave us all of her undivided attention. We made savory as well as sweet crepes. They were all so delicious! My personal favorite was the Adrianna(named after her daughter), which had chicken and sundried tomato pesto. What I also liked about Chef Gia is how simple she makes everything. Even the basic beginner can learn, yet she still keeps the more savvy chef-want-to be intrigued. She always has tips for a short cut or easy/cheaper alternative to certain recipe so that you can try it on your own. She has a whole PDF of recipes that she shared with us once class was completed. I feel like everyone in the class bonded over this experience. And we plan to come visit the French food truck and Gia when the truck makes it run around time again in Spring. In fact, we plan to sign up for another cooking class. Chef will cater to whatever recipes(2 entrees, 1 dessert) you want to learn and teach in a private class. My friends want to return for lessons on making scallop, escargot & pistachio pie. So I definitely look forward to another cooking adventure with our chef.

Gia is such a sweetheart! The French Truck was outside of an event we were hosting and they were incredibly easy to work with and very accommodating. Even as they were closing down the truck they came out and took orders anyways. You can really tell these ladies love the art of culinary. With a wide variety of amazing combinations there are so many things to choose from and all of them are delicious. Personally, I recommend The Elvis! If we are ever in Atlanta again we will definitely be having this truck at our event!

A Movable Feast is a French food truck that serves crepes. I first encountered this truck at the Alpharetta Food Truck Alley. I’ve also seen them at the Atlanta Food Truck Park on Howell Mill Rd. Atlanta is a city that lacks several good creperies. I’ve been to creperies like Crêpe Revolution in Smyrna and Julianna’s Crêpe’s in Inman Park. While I’m a fan of the latter, I think A Movable Feast may have the best crepes of them all. This food truck has one of the biggest menus I’ve seen of any food truck in Atlanta. They serve 5 brunch crepes, 8 savory crepes, and 17 sweet crepes. That is more than some standalone, non-food-truck, crêpe restaurants. Most food trucks have small menus with less than 10 items. This makes it easy to quickly pick and choose what you want. At A Movable Feast, you have to spend more time reading over the menu and deciding what you want. My only real complaint is the physical size of the menu. They have to cram so many crepes onto the menu that the print is tiny. There’s only one menu, so everyone huddles around to try and read it. If there’s a lot of people, it gets annoying. I think the food truck experience at A Movable Feast could be significantly improved if they added a duplicate menu or found a way to make the menu visible to more people at a time. This truck uses high quality ingredients. They source organic and local ingredients wherever possible. Ingredients include jumbo lump crab meat, smoked salmon, Applewood smoked bacon, Gruyère cheese, free range chicken, ricotta-mascarpone cream, and granulated organic sugar. With fine ingredients such as these, you’d expect to pay a premium, but it’s not too bad — savory(meat-filled) crepes are only $ 8 – 9 each and sweet(dessert) crepes are only about $ 5 – 6 each. I highly recommend both The David($ 9, savory crêpe) and the Turtle($ 5.50, sweet crêpe). The David comes with prosciutto di Parma(thinly sliced, dry-cured ham from the northern Italian city of Parma), double-cream brie, arugula, caramelized onions, and a whole grain mustard aioli. It comes with a small mixed green side salad with grape tomatoes. The crêpe is fresh and tastes absolutely delicious. It makes for a perfect snack or light meal. They are generous with the ingredients, particularly the prosciutto. Combined with the brie and aioli, it makes for one tasty crêpe. Sturdy forks and knives are available. However, I like to eat the savory crepes here with my hands, like a sandwich. Save the forks and knives for the messier dessert crepes. The crêpe pancake is soft, delicate, smooth, and quite appetizing. The Turtle is a rich and decadent dessert crêpe. It consists of dark Belgian chocolate, salted caramel, and toasted pecans. You can add whipped cream on top for $ 1 extra. I only recommend doing this if you can consume the crêpe immediately. The whipped cream melts fast on top of the heated crêpe, especially when the weather is warm. Another dessert crêpe worth getting is the S’more, which comes with marshmallows, graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar, and dark chocolate sauce. This is a first-class food truck with first-class ingredients, first-glass plastic cutlery(and dispensing systems), and a first-class ordering system. All orders are handled through an iPad. You use an iPad to leave a tip, sign for your receipt, and can choose to have your receipt texted and/or emailed to you. I’ve had receipts emailed to me and the receipts are actually pretty nice. They have graphics, a detailed description of what you ordered, your digital signature, and a record of how many stamps you’ve accumulated at the food truck. Each order = one stamp. After you earn 10 stamps, you get 10% off your next visit. It’s not a free meal nor a fantastic discount, but it’s better than nothing. Plus, you don’t have to sign up. It automatically keeps track of you from the beginning. Service is fine. Orders can get backed up because everything is made to order.

«I will let you go, Ricky. But first, I want you to say…“I… love… crepes.»” — Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby(2006) I’m a food truck fan. I am particular about the food that comes off of food trucks as they can be pretty pricey and sometimes they just slop the food into paper containers. I have some faves in town and then some places I will never eat from again. A Movable Feast(although spelled incorrectly), falls into the former category. I was certainly surprised to find a crêpe food truck in the first place. The name does not really match the fare they provide, so I hope this does not cause them any issues. I walked the Alpharetta Food Truck Alley tonight — twice — and decided on the crepes. My dinner was The David — prosciutto, arugula, brie(double crème), caramelized onions and mustard(Dijon, I think). They serve it with a side salad of mixed greens and a delightful vinaigrette — it tasted a mix of cranberry and balsamic. The crêpe was packed(as much as you can pack a large savory crêpe) with prosciutto, melted brie, crispy, peppery arugula(which was the perfect foil to the rich saltiness of the meat and the creaminess of the brie. The tang of the mustard rounded out the flavors in the perfect crêpe. I will say, I forgot there were onions — I didn’t notice them, but I am sure they were there. I loved the salad as the side — it was a nice light side that went perfectly with the crêpe. After I finished, I decided to go back for a dessert crêpe. Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate. They offered whipped cream, I said sure, but just a smidge. They did not tell me this was extra(poor form). So I ended up paying $ 1 for whipped cream I did not really want — and then they piled it on. I’m just not a fan of the fake crap that comes out of a spray can. I didn’t need or want it — and it made the crêpe harder to eat. Good news is, I got over it and loved the crêpe! What a great combo! I think the best improvement would be to caramelize the bananas. But, I’m not complaining. They made checking out easy — using Square and an iPad, they did push the«add a tip if you want» portion. But you get the choice to skip it if you like, which is good. You sign and if you have an email or cell number attached to your credit card, it will come up automatically. Otherwise, you do get the chance to enter it yourself. The truck was busy the entire hour we were sitting near it — and everyone looked so happy with their food — I hope plenty of people were around who would review. They were so very polite to deal with, friendly disposition and even complimented my fun Woot t-shirt I was wearing. Super nice folks and I wish them all the best. I will find these guys again.

The wife and I decided to hit up the Atlanta Food Truck Park for lunch on Friday. We took a couple of laps around the park trying to decide and I finally chose A Movable Feast. I’m glad I did! I ordered the Maple Braised Pork Crêpe, which is maple-bourbon braised pork, apple chutney, toasted walnuts & bacon-peach bbq sauce. It also came with a small salad that was actually pretty good. Service was friendly and fast, and the crêpe was amazing! If you see this truck at the food truck park or some other destination, I highly suggest that you stop and try them out.
