Mole In One

I swung into this company’s parking lot on my way home from work. I had tried all kinds of mole repellents and home remedy I could find. I needed to hire a mole assassin. I talked to the guy at the front desk. Nice. I mentioned I had dogs, greyhounds to be precise. He said, «Oh my, a greyhound could break their leg if they caught a mole hole just right.» I said precisely. I asked my normal set of questions, making it clear that closed gates were important to me.
His team showed up and put the traps in the ground. They placed 1 gallon buckets over the traps. I was a bit concerned because those traps are ferocious looking. I put my yard chairs over the holes, just so my zooming greyhounds wouldn’t trip over the covered traps.
Every week they were supposed to come. There were weeks that they didn’t leave a note. Most of the time, I had no idea if they ever caught any of the buggers. Only about half the time would they close the gate, even when I called to complain. One of my greyhounds got out because of unlatched gates. I never got a phone call back from the company. I called and left them a message that they needed to keep the chairs over the covered traps so that my greyhounds don’t knock over the black canisters. When they would come and check, they never put the chairs back. They never heeded my request.
One night, after several weeks of this, I came home from work really late. My dogs come with me to work. I let them in the backyard and headed in to make their dinner. I was so tired, I barely noticed that the other gate was not latched. As I was making their dinner, I heard the tell-​tale sounds of my three greyhounds starting to zoom in the backyard. I stepped outside to make sure all was going right. Only to see the backyard was in a disarray. The chairs weren’t over the covered traps. In fact, the traps weren’t even in the same places! They must have moved them! But they didn’t even cover the exposed holes where the empty traps had been. It was something right out of a horror movie… moving soo slow, but fast…
I heard a scream. Hoppie, my princess greyhound came up lame. She hobbled around for a moment. I ran out to her and found she had stepped in an uncovered hole. Her foot was swelling.
Hoppie had broken her toe so badly that after trying immobilization, it refused to heal. She had to have her toe amputated.
I called the company and wrote a letter. They came to the house while I was at work. They took their traps and never called again. Of course, they sent me that week’s bill.
I spent nearly $ 2000 in vet costs for that toe and never got an apology, an offer to offset the vet costs, nothing.
What was really upsetting was that the problem I was trying to avoid with hiring a PROFESSIONAL was actually the cause of the problem. If they had just covered the holes. If they had just heeded my requests. If they had even made an effort, I wouldn’t be so angry. They didn’t even make an effort to be professional about it.
