My client and I visited Unbridled Chocolates today and did not have a good experience. We got some chocolate and on cashing out I asked for separate reciepts. «You’ve got to be kidding me!» said the owner. I was appalled at how rude he was. He then proceeded to roll his eyes. I told him it was fine and to just put it on one reciept. Needless to say he lost my business. Its a shame because the chocolates are quite good.

Not only is this chocolate yummy but it borders on art. Where else can you get a dark chocolate Buddha filled with honey & spice crème? The salted caramel is addictive. Chocolate covered ghost peppers… craziness?!. The owner in an interesting guy & super nice! These artisan chocolates are worth every penny. Hands down the best chocolates from Keen NH to Clinton MA.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to take a leisurely trip down memory lane, through the little town that was once my home. As I was meandering my way through this quaint and quiet southern New Hampshire village where I once marched in the Fourth of July parade as a Girl Scout and played baseball(badly) in Little League, I noticed a new business at a familiar location. What once was a convenience store where I bought Marlboros for fifty cents a pack when I was a 12 year old(yes, this dates me… cigarettes were fifty cents a pack and the proprieter of this establishment sold them to 12 year olds) is now a consignment shop on one end, and a wee chocolate shop on the other. Enter the door to said chocolatier’s shop and you are in his kitchen, with only a counter and a vertical display of tempting confections to separate you from his concentrated efforts, deftly tempering chocolate on a cool slab of table. I thought for a moment that I had entered in the wrong way, but this is it… a man and his craft. He’s a nice man too, and funny. When I asked him how long he’d been there, he thought for a moment and said, «Well, I got a late start this morning, so around ten o’clock.» We chatted, and I decided to put together a quarter pound mix of chocolates. The dark chocolate Guinness confection was calling my name, so I got 2 of those, along with a couple of dark and milk chocolates with soft caramel filling. Then I brought them to my Mom’s house… ok, I had one on the way, the Guinness goodie, which I could not resist, and which was out of this world, as were the caramels that I shared with Mom after showing a remarkable amount of restraint, really, given that I was still an hour from her place, and the one sample I had indulged in was so very, very good. My quarter pound set me back ten bucks, which, in my mind, is a small price to pay for chocolates of this caliber. This person has talent and he’s using quality ingredients, so, if you’re ever driving between Keene and Peterborough, don’t blink, or you’ll miss Marlborough and some fine chocolates too.

Visited for the first time during the Courier and Ives Cookie Tour in December. Sampled hot chocolate and habanero and chocolate popcorn. What an odd combination I first thought but you know what? It deifnitely worked and I bought some.

Unbridled Chocolates is worth the trip if you love chocolate and are in the Monadnock area. The chef/owner is a master of his craft and displays a true gift for creating textures and flavors that bring chocolate to new heights. My current favorite is the maple coconut dark chocolate, but a cayenne pepper laced hot chocolate in on a cold winter day is pure bliss.

Amazing hot chocolate and products. I was so sad when they moved to Marlborough from Keene.

3 stars isn’t bad. i want to give 5 based on chocolate alone, but i haven’t been to the keene store so i can’t really justify it. I visited with the head chocolatier Alan at the Vermont Chocolate Show in Stowe, VT over the weekend and listened to him speak about the power of herbs and spices in chocolate. The highlight of the visit to his booth was the cayenne chocolate. whoa there — cayenne… peppers? i purchased 4 different flavors(lavendar lemon, vanilla ginger, ginger crunch and cayenne) and cayenne was definitely my favorite. hot and spicy, the dark chocolate balancing the heat and all in all giving me goosebumps of excitement. alan is a very laid back guy — you can read all about him and his co-owner reeny at the website. his talk on herbology and chakras was really cool and, i felt, a complete justification of me eating loads of chocolate. the next time i’m in keene i will be all over this store. all. over. it.
