Normally Texas Tradition is a go-​to location for me. Last week, however, I was left utterly disappointed with an overall terrible dining experience. On Sunday, June 19th, my family and I went to eat lunch and were placed at a cozy round table in the corner. Our waitress was polite but not overly friendly. When our food came out there were two seafood dishes which had to be sent back because the seafood tasted sour (a sign of spoiled seafood left out at room temperature for too long). We asked to return the two dishes and they were grudgingly taken back. When it came time to leave we had to ask multiple diners to move because the dining area was overly crowded (a major fire hazard). When we addressed the issue of our food with the manager she did nothing to compensate us for our poor dining experience.

Nice looking place and the wait staff was nice but
it all fell apart when the food started to come to the

My orange juice was warm, my order was wrong
and my eggs were cold.

I hate giving a bad review for what should be a good restaurant in a great location in Old Town Katy with a great name and pretty cool ambiance. Yes, I was excited to get a great steak here. Bummer dude — I should have gone to Saltgrass. Close to the same price for the ribeye but it probably doesn’t come with the hair in the salad and a steak that looks like it should have been served at Denny’s. If I win the lottery I’m going to buy this place and make it live up to all the reasons it should be great.

So we have lived in Katy for 30 years and have eaten here several times since it opened. Had a couple of mediocre experiences so had not been back in a couple years. Decided to give it a try again and it was delicious! The chicken fried steak is the best i have ever had. Meat to breading ratio perfect. Breading perfect. Gravy was beyond amazing. I thought i made a good gravy, but theirs was seriously amazing. The chicken fingers that the kids ordered were also delicious, as was the mac & cheese. Yummm! This will be the only place i’ll go when craving chicken fried steak.

we were driving thru looking at houses and saw this place. It looked like a little southern cooking place that turned out to be good. We have gone back 2 times since then with no disappointments and would go back if we were in the area again.

My co-​workers are fans but I am not. The food is over priced. Some of the dishes I have tried tasted frozen (mostly sides). I’d rather throw a frozen dinner in the oven and save a few bucks. The service has been good, but each time I am talked into trying it again I am not impressed. I really wanted to like this place, it is convenient and local.

Delicious food. Super packed on the weekends though there is plenty of seating, front and back. There’s a playground for kids and live music on the weekends. The burgers and fried catfish are freakin delish! So are the hush puppies!

I’ve been coming here for the past 6 weeks every Tuesday for their daily special which is the hamburger steak. I have never had a problem with the food quality or service. Both have been consistent so far! Portion size is also great for the price. The daily special runs for around 8 bucks and boy does it fill you up. I will continue to be a loyal costumer as long as they keep this up!

Decent little local join. Drive by on a Friday night and it looks like a pickup dealership. Average food, at best. Average beer list. I have done take out 2 times and dine in once. Both times the take out was super fast, dine in service was decent. If youre in Old Katy looking to get some appetizers this is the place… looking for a meal… midway bbq is right down the road.

I guess my good breakfast diner expectation was way high. Very friendly staff and a lot of antics happening in the kitchen. Seemed like every order that come out of the kitchen game back including mine. Eggs over easy should have a runny yolk.

This joints breakfast gets better and better every time I try it. It’s always been a great burger place, but this last visit (for breakfast) was the best so far. I normally go to Snappys for breakfast, but the line was too long, no line here, fast service, and the breakfast was awesome, oh, it was also cheaper. If you haven’t been here for breakfast lately, give it a try, you’ll be impressed.

Biscuits and gravy were excellent. Hash brown upgrades were a nice touch. However waiting nearly 30 minutes for food to come out when the place isn’t packed is poor. I really love the other breakfast place down the street but didn’t want to stand outside waiting for a table. After the amount of time it took for my food to come out I was second guessing my decision. I will try it again. Biscuits and gravy will be what I am craving.

We were a little apprehensive at first but this place is amazing!
The staff is fantastic! They brought toys for my daughter to play with. They were extremely kind and attentive!
Food was great! Frisco burger was ordered by my husband and he loved it… huge portion!
I ordered the steak. The steak was amazing and the salad was fresh. Best ranch!
The potato soup was not my favorite.
My daughter’s dinner was good portioned and good food. She had chicken fingers!

Average food, with good service.
$ 19 steak was overcooked and had a lot of gristle. I would not get this again.
Chicken Fried Steak was average tasting. Lacked flavor. The white gravy was bland.
The portions were large and there were plenty of sides to choose from.

Good for chicken fried steak. Great queso, beer and bands.
As you walk into the place, it feels like a country bar with diner tables.
The wait staff is friendly. When we asked about what kind of cheese was in the delicious queso, the waiter went to the kitchen to ask and told us it was a special Mexican velveeta.
My wife and I had the chicken fried steak. It was good, but I prefer mine with a bit more spice. The baked potato and Brussels sprouts sides were good as well. My daughter enjoyed the quesadillas.
We have been to TT in the past when a band was playing, and it was a good experience.
The only thing I didn’t like on our most recent trip was that the large queso was too big for the amount of chips that were brought, and we were charged for a chips refill.
Prices may be a little on the high side, but are not extreme. Daily lunch and weekend dinner specials are offered.
We will return and I would like to try the catfish next time.

If you’re in Old Katy, park your big ass truck right here. Mosey on up to the door and sit your Carhartt wearing cowboy butt down. And check out their daily lunch specials.
I recommend:
1. The burger
2. Steak on garlic sandwich
3. Fried shrimp
The service is downright friendly and the restaurant is clean. When it’s warm, go sit out on their back deck and enjoy some music.
Truly Texan and truly small town, this may be one of the best Old Katy eats.
