Cool atmosphere, great vibes, WORSTSERVICEEVER. The waiter with the beard is the biggest asshole… definitely an experience killer.

Ordered wings and chili cheese fries to go. The wings were very dry and sauceless. The fries tasted old and the chili was not very good. This is nit the same Peanut that I remember.

Any chance you(the manager) can hire more than one waiter? One guy running the bar, table waiting, taking orders, refilling drinks, and cashiering. Still waiting 20 minutes for another beer. Maybe that’s how they make sure no one drinks too much. 14 tables and 8 people at the bar.

The best wings around at one of the best dive bars around. Granted they are far from the hottest and many wing enthusiasts would consider them mild, but they sure are tasty.

First time there… really is a dive bar! Limited menu, and limited to hot wings… no other flavors… waiter said they really weren’t that hot, but they were! Onions rings were really good, also homemade blue cheese dressing. Salad was fresh, beer was cold. Probably won’t go back, but I can now say I was there.

My coworkers and I came here at 1pm on a Wednesday. There was street parking in the area and we managed to find a spot close by. There were about three or four groups already here and we were told to seat anywhere we wanted. The bar was on the right when we entered and a few flat screen TVs were spread around the place. Each table had menus in the center in the thing with the condiments. A couple of my coworkers were here for the wings. I saw a few things that sounded good on the menu. I narrowed down my choices to the BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich($ 8.75) and the Grilled Chicken sandwich($ 9.00). Our waiter said he personally liked the Grilled Chicken sandwich better which was what I decided on along with a side order of French Fries($ 1.50). Everybody else ordered a Single BLT with an egg($ 8.50), half dozen Buffalo Chicken Wings($ 11.25), and 3 Wings & Cheese Fries($ 8.85). It took over 20 minutes for our food to come out since the wings took the longest to prepare. The menu even mentioned that so that was good to know. I cut my Grilled Chicken sandwich in half to share with my coworker and in return, she gave me half of her Single BLT with an egg. The Grilled Chicken sandwich was just okay, but the Single BLT with an egg was so much better. The egg added more flavor to the BLT and I definitely liked that one over the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. I would recommend the BLT with an egg because it was so much more flavorful; in addition, this place was known for their BLT so there’s that. The French Fries were nothing special to me. Oh and the bathroom doors in the back were labeled«Nuts» and«No Nuts». I wouldn’t mind coming back to order their Triple BLT(single would not be enough for me) with an egg as well as try other things on the menu.

Food excellent. Bartender not so much. On a Wednesday night the amount of time it took him to bring my check was three times longer then the amount of time the kitchen made the BLT and time I ate it combined and asked him to refill the drink, forgot that one too.

Good good good good really true full size wings. It really is a wing not a cut up piece of chicken. Did I mention I love the wings?

The worst service. One bartender and one cook with a full restaurant. Not very clean either, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s always been that way. I’ll keep coming back for the wings. They’re simply the best!

Five stars based on the quality of the wings, BLT and chili cheese dog/fries. If you go in there in a rush you’ll likely be disappointed but if you go in wanting friendly pours, good music selection, great food and good prices you’ll be likely find the wait is worth it. Very happy I live so close to this place, it is a worthy enemy of every diet I try.

OMG, BESTBLT’s EVER! Yes, they are that good! I don’t know what makes them soo special, do they dip them in Angel Dust? Who can tell, but my Hubby and son say no-one can compare to the only way to do a BLT, and that’s eat it at The Peanut. As for me, I love their Nachos, you can load them up almost anyway you want them, Delish!

The nachos are great. The service can be slow but they are friendly. Some of the crowd can be sketchy but overall a good dive bar to hang out at.

I live right down the street and really want to like this place more. The wings are outstanding if you have all day to wait for them to get served to you, I have to give them that. But the service is just so offensively terrible and I don’t have time to wait over an hour on food most nights, so I can’t give this place more than 2 stars. It’s one thing for a place to be periodically understaffed, but I’ve gone about a dozen times over the past year due to the location being so convenient for me, and there’s a pattern of customers being ignored for 10 – 15 minutes after they sit down. The last time I came with some friends and we canceled a small order of wings after waiting literally over an hour. The server was extremely rude about it too, we asked for a time estimate and she said she’d ask about it but then never came back and gave us one. After we canceled the wings order I tried to give her my credit card to run the drinks tab and she literally refused to take it and said she would come back later to get the card(despite having a free hand). Then like 15 minutes later she comes back to take the card. One the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a bar. I know some patrons are going to be terrible to talk to, I worked at a bar a long time ago and can relate to the stress of having to deal with drunk idiots all night, but refusing to take someone’s credit card when they ask you politely to run the tab and you have a free hand is extremely rude. A couple other notes, just to balance out this review — the nachos are pretty good, and the well drinks are very reasonably priced. The bartenders have always been friendly to me. Maybe this place just needs to add some staff, I don’t know, but it’s going to be a long time until I come back after my last visit.

Friendly neighborhood bar that serves up some incredible buffalo chicken wings. Be careful how many your order because they do it by the actual chicken wing(see drum and flat) whereas most places count a wing as one of the other. Long story short, I was expecting a 12 piece and received a 24 piece. Needless to say I was dining on glorious chicken wings and buffalo sauce for the next three days straight. They also seem to have a lot of good happy hour specials whatever day of the week it is.

The Peanut’s chickens were raised on God’s farm, served feed grown in rich fields of Eden, and then honorably laid to rest on my plate after being lightly sauteed in the Devil’s homemade wing sauce. Also, get the cheesy fries.

I wanted to love The Peanut, but as much as I love hole-in-the-wall dive bars, this place just didn’t do it for me. It isn’t a bad stop: the beer selection is decent, the chili cheese fries were SO good(FANTASTIC chili), but overall the service was meh. I consider my spicy-tolerance to be pretty good, but the wings here were just a bit too hot for me. They were also HUGE and not halved. This is certainly not a first date place, there is no way to escape without wing sauce everywhere. We waited on our check way too long and the sunshine outside was just torturing us while we were inside the dark, musty bar. Maybe better on a rainy day :) Get the chili fries!

Let me tell you the deal with The Peanut. Best wings in KC that I’ve had. I went into it with high expectations and it delivered. With The Peanut it’s best to go early and go often. Went there around 11:15 am on a Friday for lunch with my dad and we just beat the lunch crowd which had the place packed by 11:45. I went with the world famous wings and knowing their reputation,(the whole chicken wing) I decided to go for the three wings and fries. Dad went for the BLT, which he claims is one of the best as well. But more about these wings. Takes about 20 minutes but it’s well worth it. Wings come out drenched it their sauce and you’ll get messy, and even messier if you dip them in that blue cheese dressing, which is also incredible. Fries were crinkle fries and so so, but not really a major concern of mine despite my love for fries. Bottom line is come in, expect to wait for a table if you come in during a busy time, order some wings, or a BLT if that’s your thing, and enjoy. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I’ll be back.

Where to begin with the Peanut. I’ve been stopping in here for years when I’m near downtown and craving their wings. It’s a love/hate relationship, however. I love their wings and beer, but shudder at the surroundings inside. What defines a «dive» bar? Seedy surroundings? Check. Sketchy characters? Check. Well known drink and/or food specialty? Check. Asking yourself«should I really come back here again?» Check. The Peanut meets all these qualities and more. I can picture the conversation in the back when food is being prepared. «Hey man, that sandwich looks terrible.» «IDGAF, send it out.» «Hey man, that beer is warm.» «IDGAF, send it out.» Here are some sterling examples: 1.) Sanitation — The wings here are so good(and huge) you can overlook all the dirty plates stacked on top of beer boxes by the kitchen door(in plain sight). 2.) Health — Our server a couple years ago had a burn on his hand that would have been fine if it had been covered by the gauze that should have been affixed to his skin. The bandaged was half falling off as he delivered the food. 3.) Consistency — Stopped by the other day and ordered a Harp on St. Paddy’s Day. 1st beer was room temperature but had excellent lacing on the glass(at least it was clean). Drank first then ordered another one — ice cold, no lacing. 4.) Presentation — Cheese fries are covered in some sort of cheese sauce and a sprinkled shredded cheese that isn’t melted. Same is true for the awesome BLT w/cheese. Like the bag of Kraft is right next to the prep table and a handful is thrown on top right before serving. I’ll be back for sure when I crave those wings. The homemade blue cheese dressing is outstanding as well. When I do, I’ll hold my breath, cross my fingers, and hope for the best when I walk through the door. It’s an institution on 9th street and a must for any lover of chicken wings who can stomach the idiosyncrasies around the rest of the bar.

It’s a dive… as advertised… I went in thinking to myself I hope the beer is cold and the food is good… if that happens I will be good to go! I walked in knowing the rep of this place… went during lunch rush, sat at the bar and was more than happy and satisfied with the service and food. Two thumbs up! My bartender knew his sh*t!

I would not even give this P.O.S. place a star. But Unilocal would not let me submit this review without giving it one. So I had to. Unilocal needs middle finger button as part of the review so I can click on it and give it several middle fingers. My roommate and I both came over because our company was having a gathering here before hitting up Power n Light. We didn’t eat dinner so we came with great expectations after hearing so much good things about their wings. We were greeted by a rather friendly and casual waiter who definitely swore a couple times within the matter of one minute, in a friendly way. We quickly placed our order of wings and BLT sandwich and sat there expecting great things. The only thing that stands between me and skinning the chefs alive is my roommate. Not only did we wait for nearly an hour and a half(76 minutes to be exact, yes, I freaking counted) over a very simple order, when the food came out, it tasted like it was microwaved. The outside was lukewarm and the inside of the wings were cold. If that is not a hell of a dead giveaway of a microwaved food, I don’t know what the freak is. In that amount of time I could have made the wings myself, but better. In addition, at the end the waiter asked us what we thought of the food. We were being honest and told him, in a polite manner(I know I sound angry in this review, but we remained calm when delivering our opinions). Guess what? This good-for-nothing scumbag of the earth which baby Jesus would not mind eradicating from the face of this planet simply shrugged and replied very casually, «It happens.» Below is my roommate’s response, AND I QUOTE: «Bitch, „happens“ is me dropping my plate on the floor by accident. The food being absolute dog shit doesn’t just „happen“ at a place that claims to have the best wings in KC.» Don’t go to this place. And to the bearded waiter, my roommate says, «Fuck you»“ Yup, it happens.
