We enjoyed our meal, the server was great, everything came out cooked, what more can you ask for?

Finally had a night out w/a couple of my girl friends. The Jacobson was not busy and we were seated outside, but had the worst service experience. We sat for over 20 minutes(I was trying to get my friends to leave) while we were continuously ignored by the male server outside. After trying to flag him down several times, he came over and actually the audacity to tell us that we would have a new server(it was his first night) and not to be rude to him. I had to pick my jaw up from his comments. Normally, I would have left right then and there. However, my friends really wanted to try the place. Our actual server redeemed himself(mostly) but there is a bad taste in my mouth from the first server and the food was okay at best. The servers need to get over themselves.

This place is located right beside Lulu’s Noodle Shop. This place is always packed so know the times that you plan on going. Was taken here by my new co-workers for lunch one sunny afternoon and we decided for the patio. We were quickly seated and dove into the lunch menus. I had the Salmon BST a version of a BLT I assume and it definitely worked for me! My side that accompanied were the truffle fries. The salmon filet was grilled to perfection and served between a delish fresh ciabatta bun with tomato and spinach. Although the ciabatta bun was decadent, there was quite a bit of bun to conquer I ended up removing the filet and snacking on bits of the bun. Let’s talk about these truffle fries-they leave me speechless. Not greasy, sprinkled with freshly grated parmsean cheese and a good serving portion of them as well. Yes, I ate them all and I am not ashamed –you won’t be either. The service was great as well. Stop by The Jacobson some time and partake it will be worth your while.

New favorite date night restaurant!!! Cocktails were delicious. Great price on house wine. We tried the Angels on Horseback appetizer and our friends ordered the octopus. Both were out of this world incredible! For dinner, my husband got the strip steak which was cooked perfectly. I ordered the jumbo diver scallops, honestly the best scallops I’ve ever had. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Our friend ordered the Steak Oscar which he loved as well. Our friends are gluten free and they had almost the entire menu to choose from for gluten free options! Atmosphere was nice, we got in right away with our reservation. Server was very attentive and friendly. All around a great dinner with no complaints. It’s going to be hard to try out new places in the crossroads now.

Me and the wife met some friends there for dinner recently and I was very dissapointed food was average at best and you need a flashlight to read the menu(seriously)!!! Very pricey for the product also and service was slow… The only thing that made it enjoyable was the friends we were with…

What a cute place. Don’t miss out on the truffle fries. You’re welcome in advance. They share the same parking lot as LuLu’s…again, hit or miss during lunch hours so plan accordingly!

The Pork Confit is the most delectable dish you can ever imagine! I’m serious you MUST get this! The bartender Jason was very knowledgeable and has a wonderful talent for mixing incredible drinks. The Plank Salmon was also perfect and deliciously melts in your mouth. Brussels sprouts are great as is the seafood medley! We love everything we have tried from this place.

The good: Food is excellent and there is a nice bar. The bad: We had a large group so some consideration given for the really poor service. Met with aloofness and slight rudeness at the door. One guy, I will call the owner, dropped several wine glasses and made our server clean up the mess. Umm… We had a large group… she was busy. He later dropped some plates and, later still, something behind the bar. Atmosphere is douchey. Never to return

Getting seated was a struggle. We watched the dirty table stay dirty for 15 minutes before we decided to seat ourselves. Then a waitress came up to us and said the hostess needs to seat you. I said we are the party with the reservation and we’ve been waiting 30 mins to be seated. If only the staff was as aggressive with cleaning the table as they were with questioning why we seated ourselves, this review would be going a little better. Octopus was a bit light, maybe a tentacle in a half Regarding the food, out a this world and amazing. The burger was amazing and the burger was freaking amazing. Our waitress Cris was professional and knew her shizzle!!! Ps. Bring a flashlight so you can read the menu

We visited on a rainy Saturday afternoon and struggled to find parking. We had a 1:30 reservation, but arrived a little early and were seated quickly right across from a boisterous table of loud drunks. We had a very nice waiter that kept us well stocked with coffee. I ordered french toast and mom ordered chicken and waffles. The french toast was tasty, but the pieces were quite irregular. One piece was an inch thick on one side and paper thin on the other. It was a bit of a small portion, but the price wasn’t terrible. While my mother enjoyed the waffles and their citrusy syrup, I did not like syrup at all. The chicken was the weirdest little pieces of scrap chicken, perhaps just the fried«oysters» from the thighs. They were fried at too high of heat and had very little flavor besides the taste of scorched oil. Anyone should have been able to tell those little tidbits of chicken(which would equal about 3 chicken nuggets) were charcoaled and shouldn’t have put them on the plate. In any case, we ate as quickly as we could to get away from the drunks. I guess $ 15 for bottomless mimosas was too much to resist for some.

We had a wonderful brunch experience today at Jacobson! Bottomless breakfast drinks, and attentive and friendly service! It was a bright sunny [Feburary] day and boy were the patrons out! The place was packed. We chose to eat at the bar, although many selected to sit in the sun on the welcoming patio! Jackie, the bartender didn’t miss a best. She was non-stop but able to provide even her bar patrons pleasant and attentive service and conversation. My wife had a new experience in the ‘Waffle and fried chicken’ dish – but it was remarkable. We both see now how this combination got together and why!!! My choice was the Waldorf Chicken Salad served as a lettuce wrap! The chicken was obviously house-baked and pulled, fresh yet moist. It was combined with finely diced vegetables and a healthy amount of nuts which I believe were pecans. Not too much sauce to the salad but plenty in the serving served in butter lettuce cups, with your choice of house made chip(which are very good!) or fries. Great time and a DEFINITE for future visits~!

Took my girlfriend here tonight for our first time and we were both blown away. This place is amazing! To start, the only negative I can think of is the parking… in the heart of Crossroads, it’s not the best, however they offer great hours for valet as well as validating free parking in the garage one block south of the restaurant. Be sure to get here a bit early to accommodate, though! We made reservations, but showed up 15 early, expecting to wait at the bar. To our surprise, our table was already ready and we were led directly there(at 7pm on a Saturday!). Our server was John(highly recommend requesting him; he’s amazing) and was quick to greet. From there his menu, cocktail and wine knowledge were interwoven with a great sense of humor to help guide us through the perfect meal. Answered any question thrown his way and was able to tailor specific suggestions based on our likes/dislikes. The drinks are fantastic. I’m a whiskey fan… if you are, as well, The Brooklyn is the only drink you need to know. She loves a bit lighter and sweeter drinks and absolutely loved the Crossroads Fizz(a cucumber mojito with gin). We had the stuffed meatballs as an app(killer) and the lobster bisque soup(decent, but with fresh lobster expect a bit of «grain» in it). For entrees, we had the Duroc Pork and Jacobson style KC Strip. The pork was crazily tender and sweet and the strip was out of this world. Looked ~14−16oz and had MAYBE2oz of fat on the whole thing. Overall, the atmosphere, service and food were impeccable. We will DEFINITELY be back and requesting John’s service again! Thank you for a fantastic evening!

A group of us came here for brunch during restaurant week. I think a lot of reviews complain about the service, but ours was really good. We shared the jumbo lump crab and shrimp dig– pretty good Our group was tempted to just order off of the brunch menu, but stuck with what was offered during restaurant week. Chicken Sandwich — was alright and it was kind of dry with no mustard/mayo or original sauce with it. One of us got truffle fries and the other got the soup(soup was lacking in flavor). One of our table members ordered the pasta and he said it was really good. The other 2 members ordered the chicken salad sandwich/wrap and thought it was really good. We all wished that The Jacobson burger had been a part of the resistant week, since it’s a staple! Dessert options– Salted caramel Butterscotch pudding and banana bread pudding The pudding itself had a good flavor, but I don’t care for chunky salt. the Banana Bread Pudding was very good. We all decided we’d come back and give this place another try for brunch when the patio is open.

I will start with the good… I have been here a couple times now and the food has always been great! The Cuban I had on my first visit had the perfect flavor profile with a happy mix of pork, mustard, cheese and pickles. The Jacobsen burger was also very good with its fresh ground beef, short rib marmalade and crispy onions. Only wish they would put a slice of cheese on it, maybe a swiss or provolone would go nicely. The appetizers we shared were the crispy oyster mushrooms, spread trio and the stuffed meatballs. All delicious! Favorite being the mushrooms especially with the spicy aioli sauce! Now the bad… Unfortunately the service is below average. First visit the server was slow with our drinks and food. Apologized up and down so we gave it pass. The most recent visit our server gave the vibe that we were constantly bothering him with just simple drink orders and menu questions. You could almost hear him humming the Final Jeopardy theme music while he was taking our order. Maybe this is a product of being short staffed or a life-long person in the service industry but I shouldn’t have to feel rushed or a bother on a nice evening out. True Rating: 3.5

The Jacobson is one of those restaurants that can put anything on my plate and I will eat it. If you’ve never been before, give yourself a bit of extra time for parking during busy dinner hours. It can be a tad hard to find but if you see Lulus, you’re there. The atmosphere of the Jacobson is wonderful. They have tvs for the sports lovers in your group but still maintain a classy vibe so you don’t feel like you’re at a sports bar. I had a wine flight(generous pours and every wine was a winner) while some of my friends tried their amazing cocktails. All 5 of us were pleased with not only our drinks, but our food as well. Although I can only speak to the restaurant week menu, we had zero complaints about our food or our service. Their stuffed meatballs are the best meatballs I’ve had in my life and good news, they are on the regular menu as well! I’m super excited to go back, especially in the summer when I can enjoy their no-smoking patio.

To be honest, I debated between 3 and 4 stars for this place. It actually rates as more of a 3.5 for me, but I’m feeling generous today. The atmosphere at The Jacobson is great. Very hip and kind of rustic. The place has a nice feel and I liked the relaxed music selections they played throughout our meal. Our server was a really sweet girl, although it seemed like we had about three different people help us throughout our meal, so I’m not sure if she technically counts as our server, but she seemed to be the main one waiting on us. The food was decent. The grilled shrimp as an appetizer is really fantastic and the butterscotch pudding really stood out as well. Appetizers and desserts seem to be their shining points. The entrée was just ok, and nothing very memorable, but I’m not sure if that is because of what we ordered. The Jacobson is a cute place and I would definitely consider coming back here, but most likely for something along the lines of drinks and appetizers/dessert or for a happy hour. I would likely get my entrée from somewhere else.

I had high hopes for The Jacobson, as it had been on my list of restaurants I wanted to try for quite some time. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. Their only saving grace was the truffle fries with garlic aioli(I love me some aioli). Granted, I came for KC Restaurant Week during lunch, but I expected the food to be more than just a dry(grilled) chicken and burnt day-old ciabatta bread sandwich(aka Herb Grilled Chicken), which didn’t appear to be on their normal restaurant menu. Must have been a special for Restaurant Week(or not, and I just missed it). I had to slather the sandwich with the garlic aioli to make it somewhat edible. My boyfriend, whom ordered the same, couldn’t even finish his sandwich due to its dryness, even with the garlic aioli. Dessert is my favorite course, and so of course, I was looking forward to trying their Banana and White Chocolate Bread Pudding. It could have been infinitely better. My boyfriend, who is a bread pudding connoisseur, didn’t even finish his because he felt it lacked many of the components that makes bread pudding, well… bread pudding. I’m not one to waste food, so I was saddened that I had to leave some behind. It wasn’t what I had been expecting, needless to say. The bread pudding didn’t appear to be on their regular dessert menu either. So perhaps, they created all these food items as specialties exclusively for restaurant week, and as a result, they haven’t been perfected. I would most definitely come back for the truffle fries, and I would give another entrée and dessert a try before completely ruling out the possibility of coming back. The atmosphere was sophisticated with just a bit of an urban touch. For lunch, no fancy dress is needed. However, dinner may be a different story. Overall Rating: 3.5÷5 Service: 4⁄5 Food: 2⁄5 Atmosphere: 5⁄5

Can I rate it a 2.5? I would describe The Jacobson as thoroughly average. We went for Restaurant Week and my girlfriend and I both ordered the truffle fries, the chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread, and White Chocolate and Banana Bread Pudding. We both found the chicken sandwich to be extremely dry, despite slathering it with the garlic aioli that came with the truffle fries. That being said, the truffle fries were very good and just the right amount of soggy. Mean ol’ Lulu’s next door hogs all the parking but if you’re feeling daring, just park there anyway! Or go to Lulu’s, I guess. Average attire is fine. Truffle fries: 5⁄5 Everything else: Meh.

The food is good and I really enjoy the atmosphere and the patio. I’ve been here twice, once for the happy hour and once for lunch. John provided poor service. Happy hour — Decent happy hour, pricing is ok, the options to choose from are pretty good. I tried the shrimp and crab wontons, stuffed meatballs, and the street tacos. I had sangria to drink which was alright. Not the strongest. The second time I came(yesterday) with a friend, I had a poor experience with John. This was during the Royals parade and it was not busy and there were at least 15 open seats, but the staff seemed flustered. I thought it was odd that they’d be short-staffed, considering the Royals parade was going on. You’d think they would have expected the increase in customers. Anyways, the host seemed bothered by us requesting to sit outside on the patio, and our server, John, was very rude. Strike 1: He had 1 other table next to us and he would take our orders with them(as if we were all one table) and then rush off before we could ask him a question. Strike 2: Once it was time for us to order, I ordered the All-American burger(a regular cheeseburger but I wanted the short-rib marmalade sauce on it that comes on The Jacobson burger). John acted as requesting a sauce was the most bizarre and unreasonable request. With a strange look, he asked«Sooo, you just want the Jacobson burger then?» No, I want the All-American with the sauce. I asked John if that would be a problem — he ignored me. Strike 3: My friend asked about the portion size of mac and cheese appetizer, and John responded in a snarky tone«Well, it’s an appetizer. I don’t know how much you eat, honey.» That really rubbed us the wrong way. Some appetizers/small plates are enough for an entrée, some aren’t. Just answer the question. She ended up ordering the chicken salad sandwich since John wasn’t being very helpful. Next batter is up! Strike 1: Our food eventually came. John brought my friend the fried chicken sandwich. When she told him it wasn’t the sandwich she ordered, he grabbed the plate and walked off, as if it was her fault the order was wrong. No apology, nothing. Strike 2: He brought my food as I requested, but with bacon and said«They put the marmalade sauce AND bacon on there… aren’t you lucky!?»…why am I «lucky» to receive something I didn’t even ask for? Assuming he thought I ordered bacon, why would I be lucky to get something I DID ask for? Lucky for HIM, I actually like bacon. Just didn’t want to pay the $ 2 up-charge and figured my waistline would thank me later. Strike 3: I was charged extra for bacon on my bill. Overall, I like this place but would not recommend having John as your waiter.

I decided to give The Jacobson another chance, mainly because I won a gift card. The winning of this gift card led to multiple visits and and overall ‘meh’ opinion. Some of the food is really good. The Jacobson burger is a win in every way. Mine was cooked perfectly medium. The burger alone is fantastic, good quality and great seasoning. Add on the marmalade, bone marrow, and onion straws and this is just stupid yummy. Everything else I have tried is just ok. Nothing to get excited about and nothing that will stick in your mind to make you think, hey, let’s go to The Jacobson. They have daily pasta salad options that are always intriguing and a nice alternative to fries, but they really have no clue how to cook pasta. I have been served noodles that were cooked in water that does not fully cover the noodles, noodles that are terribly overcooked, never noodles that are cooked as they should be. If they could nail how to cook noodles, they might have a winning side dish with the daily noodle salad specials. Other things I have tried. The salmon sandwich, a lot of bread and little salmon. And various daily specials, generally very bland and lacking seasoning. Service is nothing special. I actually feel bad for the employees. They just have a feel and look in their eyes like this is an awful place to work. I have also experienced how the manager, or at least person who acts like he is in charge, talks to them. It backs up the feel. I think I still have some money left on my gift card so I will make one more visit. If I win another gift card I will return. If I have to pay for my food, I will select somewhere else along the Boulevard.
