When a restaurant puts a sign in their window saying they will give you«50% off of your order for a five-star Unilocal review», you might as well replace that sign with a «going out of business soon» sign. What a worthless excuse for a restaurant, ugh, puke, & liquid BMs!

Stayed at the Q hotel for a wedding last week and heard great things about this place so my husband and I decided to try it out on our last morning. So glad we did! It’s a small place but the food was great. Awesome service too! Highly recommend!

I have easily walked by this place with no thought to go inside. It honestly looks like one of those cheapy breakfast places that you would rather pass then browse the menu… man, was I wrong! The appearance on the inside was adorable and perfectly quaint. Great big seating for many brunchers or small seats by the window for one. Who knew this place has been here for 3 years! Loved the menu! It was simple, yet it had depth to the dishes. I had the traditional buscuits and gravy with potatoes and fruit. My guest had the breakfast burrito. OK… so ya know those people that try and steal a bite of someone elses food because of «food envy»… yea, that was me and I almost ate half of the burrito! Mine was great as well, but loved the fresh local ingredients and homemade salsa! They also have specialty coffees which, being a coffee brat, I LOVE! This is a great staple in Westport! Glad its there and sorry I passed it up so many times! Go. Burrito!

My best friend, Stevie and I(pictured) consider ourselves pretty big foodies but at the same time relatively tolerant of restaurants for minor mistakes like being out of a certain item. But this place we cannot tolerate. The problems at this place range from minor annoyance to completely unsanitary. Let me first begin by saying that all we wanted was a simple place to grab breakfast on a late Sunday morning. Simply Breakfast seem to describe what we wanted perfectly and from the outside seemed like a quaint and approachable place. On the inside at first glance it seemed just ok. They had some art on the walls from what I can assume was a local artist. Nothing really mind blowing. The system they had for ordering was that you had to go up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, pick a table, and wait. Their menu is filled with your basic breakfast/brunch fare. Biscuits and gravy, waffles, omelets, etc. They didn’t seem to have anything we couldn’t get at Chubby’s or the The Corner. Stevie and I decided to share the biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns. The food came with coffee and decided to do the 2.00 up charge and get a caramel macchiato and a chai tea latte. The total came to be around 18.00 for the food and coffee which I felt was a little steep considering we ordered only one plate of food and maybe an extra 5 bucks for the coffees. After we finished paying(upfront) for our food, we had the adventure of finding a table. We eventually settled on a high table towards the end of the restaurant but discovered that it was horribly wobbly. This is one of those minor things I can tolerate. What I couldn’t tolerate was the ketchup bottle at every table. In an attempt to be trendy and cute, they had replaced all the caps of the bottles with wine corks. This was a horrible idea as the cork had sticky ketchup all over it and it didn’t secure the ketchup very well as there were fruit flies all over the bottle. Further investigation found almost every bottle had flies on it. So I guess no ketchup for me. When our coffees came they were in cups that were stained with someone else’s coffee spill and the chai itself tasted like it was a powder mixed with too much water and Stevie’s macchiato tasted burnt. Not worth the money we paid for them. Huge waste. When our food finally came, the presentation was alright and it seemed to look good. They had even put the extra sausage we requested on the biscuits. The problem didn’t come until we took our first bite. The eggs were ice cold and unseasoned as were the hash browns. They were so tasteless I almost considered risking my health with the icky ketchup. And it seemed all the seasoning and salt that was needed for the eggs and browns were piled into the gravy. Way too salty. I honestly thought to myself«I make this waaaaaay better at home». I should never think this in a restaurant. I should want to go to that restaurant because I can’t make it that good at home. Don’t waste your time here. If you want breakfast in Westport, go to Chubby’s or The Corner. Someplace where they know what they are doing.

Don’t expect anything fancy from this diner style establishment. The food tastes amazing, and the staff is very friendly, but the soda machine wasn’t working and the ice was kept in a small cooler on the counter top. The air conditioning wasn’t working, so it was a bit warm inside. Food was served quickly, so that makes up for the lack of other amenities. If you’re the artsy type, all of the art hanging on the walls is for sale.

Very good breakfast. Order at a counter. Our group had pancakes, breakfast burrito and eggs Benedict all were excellent. Would definitely come here again.

We found our way here after encountering a 45 minute wait at Beer Kitchen for brunch. Just wanting a quick breakfast, we ordered our meals at the counter and though, «Great! We should be in and out in under an hour.» I ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs, hash browns, bacon and coffee. The cashier is the one who fills your coffee and you’re allowed one refill. The coffee was out and I had to wait for more to come out. Then, the cream was out so I had to wait for that as well. No biggie… they weren’t that busy, but shit happens, right? We all sat down and waited for our food to come out. And we waited. And waited. And waited some more. About 45 minutes later, and no fewer than 3 attempts by servers to deliver us the wrong food(they give you a number to put on your table so I’m not sure why the servers were constantly going table to table searching for the right people to deliver food to), our food was finally delivered. They gave my friend bacon when she ordered sausage. So back it went. I should have just taken her bacon because mine was missing so I asked for that as well. Her plate came back with the right pork product but when she cut into her omelet, it had ingredients that she didn’t ask for and couldn’t eat. So she had to send it back again. My bacon still didn’t show up, even after asking again. The right omelet came out finally, but my bacon was a no-show. I asked for it AGAIN, and nothing. By this time I was done with the rest of my breakfast so I went to the cashier to get a refund for the side of bacon I’d paid for. For not being very busy, the staff seemed pretty flustered. I overheard one of them muttering and complaining about having to refill things and returning food that was wrong from other tables. One guy went up to the counter and asked for some biscuits that weren’t burnt. My biscuits and gravy were tasty and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The hash browns were burnt, though. If it weren’t for the service I’d probably have tried it again. But after checking on Unilocal and seeing that the bad service seems to be a common theme, I’ll probably avoid coming here again. We were there over an hour and spent maybe 5 – 10 minutes actually eating.

Our friend Madge invited us out for breakfast last Sunday and we ended up here in Westport. I“m not a big fan of Westport but I have wanted to try this place out. You come in and place your order at a place like a front-desk. There is a soda/water station where you go to get your own drink. First mark against the place. the glasses were filthy. Greasy, food particles on some of them. I was very hesitant to choose any glass but against my better judgment, I found one that appeared to be clean. Not liking this… Ordered an omelet with bacon, cheese, mushrooms and sausage with a side of hashbrowns and some toast. Madge had the breakfast fajitas. We waited a long time to get our food. The place is very casual, relaxed and pleasant. Parking is always an issue but we had managed to find a place only a couple blocks down the street. I had a cup of hot chocolate which was delicious, creamy and robust. When the server brought Madge her breakfast fajitas and set down a cup of salsa, Madge looked at the salsa and tilted the cup, picking at it and she queried, «uh, is there cilantro in this? it looks like there is.» The server sort of reared back and snapped, «well…I think so, it’s salsa.» I don’t understand why a server has to be a smartass. Again I say, if you can’t handle the complexities of customer service, please do us all a favor and get out of the business. Madge wasn’t expressing her dislike for the restaurant or the server but she does HATE cilantro and no Mr. Snooty Server, not all salsas have cilantro in them. Just answer the question politely and offer to take the vile stuff away. When Madge asked for an alternative she was told there were none. Fine. End of subject. Anyway, no one bothered to check with us again to inquire as to how we were doing or how our food was. My guess is, this is just a breakfast conveyer belt that moves folks quickly in and out of breakfast. That’s okay by me b/c many times, all I want to do is eat and run and I think Simply Breakfast does keep things simple. The problem is, the quality food was not all that great. My omelet was overcooked and rubber with some tough ends(it has sat in the skillet or on the griddle too long and toughened the edges by over cooking). The flavor was okay but like I said, a bit overcooked. Madge’s breakfast quesadilla looked great and she seemed to enjoy it. Probably won’t come back. Too many other good places to eat breakfast.

I’ve given this place a good review before, as I had at least one good experience out of the few times I’ve been here. However, the last time just seals the deal that I won’t be returning. I went on a Saturday morning and can’t explain why the food was so absolutely disappointing in every way — you’d think they’d have their A chef rather than their D– chef working on a weekend morning. I ordered eggs benedict, as I can’t bring myself to pay 6+ dollars for breakfast food I could easily make at home. We didn’t experience the long wait others have mentioned, but we were only one of three tables — probably for a reason, I now know. Originally, we were going to share the dish, but when it came out, it was clear to me immediately that something was wrong. The Hollandaise sauce was broken — whoever made it let it get too hot, so the butter separated from the egg yolk, and it was a runny, coagulated mess. It tasted even worse — somehow bland and bitter at the same time. I sent it back before the waitress had a chance to leave, and when she brought it back, she mentioned they made a whole new one… and it was the same. She seemed confused as to what was wrong, and at that point I knew that if the chef didn’t even know what Hollandaise sauce was SUPPOSED to look like, I wasn’t going to be having a breakfast I was satisfied with that day. My waste-not-want-not partner ate it anyway, and I ordered a sandwich… which was completely bland and a sad brown color all over. Seriously, seriously infuriating. I was kicking myself the whole day for wasting money when I could have had ten times better at home.

Pros: They did remake my eggs but I would have just had my money back by that point. Cons: Waited at least 20 minutes to get our food and there was NOONE in there. Food was nothing special. My basic fried eggs were covered in pepper. I could have made better in my own kitchen. Atmosphere was not what I was wanting at all. Empty, dirty and uninviting. We happened to be there when a man was changing the prices on their menu board. So they clearly are not doing too well and decided to hike up their prices. GOSOMEWHEREELSE!

Simply Breakfast was simply AWFUL! the system here is all wrong. waited 35 min for a mediocre plate of biscuits and gravy that tasted like it was straight out of a pack you buy at the store. the breakfast burrito was lame to say the least. look, you cant just stick an omelet in a tortilla and call it a breakfast burrito, K. and it went real well with the side of pace they serve with it. no service, no luster, no fun!!!

First time I went here was right after the place opened — thought there were some growing pains, but that it could be better as things went along. Fast forward a year or so… and the place is exactly the same as it was. The atmosphere is pretty standard for a breakfast place, bright and cheery. The menu is pretty standard. The food was pretty good; I had a breakfast sandwich that hit the spot. The service was OK — not superb, but decent enough. If this doesn’t sound like an enthusiastic review… it’s because this really wasn’t a place to get enthusiastic about. When it comes down to the menu, service, and the overall experience — there’s nothing here to(as they say) write home about. The staff, the menu… everything seemed like it was going through the motions. I didn’t feel any TLC. I wouldn’t turn down an invite here, but other places in the city set the bar far higher.

Based on previous Unilocal reviews I was expecting a straightforward but well-executed breakfast from Simply Breakfast. The first part was certainly accurate, as the restaurant stays true to its name with a small, pretty standard selection of breakfast items. I was glad to see that everything was reasonably priced. As for the food itself, I thought it was just okay. I ordered the SB platter, which comes with toast, hash browns, choice of sausage or bacon(I chose bacon) and 2 eggs cooked to order(I chose scrambled). The food came quickly, which was nice given that it was a busy Sunday morning. The first thing that I noticed was that the toast doesn’t come pre-buttered, and when I started spreading the whipped butter on my toast I was dismayed to discover that it was already cool. The butter didn’t melt at all. This seems like such an easy thing to do well I was annoyed that they got it wrong. The hash browns were hot, but the only seasoning I tasted in them was pepper. Maybe I was already biased because of the cold toast, but I thought the hash browns were kinda boring. They tasted like the kind of hash browns you can buy dried at the supermarket. The only part of the meal I thought was above average were the eggs. I always worry about getting scrambled eggs at a restaurant, since no ones scrambled eggs will ever be better than your mom’s scrambled eggs, but these were surprisingly good. Not too dry or too runny, and nicely seasoned. My friend ordered the Eggs Benedict, and like me she thought her meal was just okay. She said she thought the hollandaise sauce was bland(I can’t compare since I don’t like hollandaise) but the eggs were nicely poached. For a place with so few menu items it’s surprising they could produce such mediocre food. I’d go back, but not before trying another place first.

After very little sleep I found myself with a group of four at Simply Breakfast. This place is pretty straightforward and simple(get it?). It’s a small-ish, clean, bright space in Westport with counter service so you have to wait for a line instead of a server. When we arrived in the late morning the line was pretty long and moving slowly, but that gave us time to peruse the giant menu above the counter. The menu has all the traditional breakfast staples you would expect – french toast, breakfast burritos, omelets, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, etc. I ordered the Eggs Benedict($ 6.99) which came with hash browns and coffee, and I incurred a slight upcharge for choosing orange juice instead. After choosing a table our orders came out fairly quickly and everything was warm and correct. The Eggs Benedict was exactly what you’d expect from Eggs Benedict with nothing fancy or crazy thrown in. On a side note the food comes out as soon as its ready and not as a table, so whoever orders first eats first while you watch. As an a-ok breakfast I went from three to four stars based solely on them having hot sauce on the table, which is a breakfast necessity and, when you have a hangover, is like a welcome«we’ve got your back» from Simply Breakfast. Thanks guys. Sometimes simple breakfast is all you need.

Let’s paint a picture: It is 7am in Kansas City. I just got though pulling an all-nighter for school and I’m dying for some fresh coffee and warm eggs to get me out of this foggy, angsty, funk with but dealing with the hipster stare-down from Broadway coffee. I look up local breakfast places and see that SB has good ratings and is a 10 minute walk away from me. I get into the building to find 1 customer on his laptop. No one was at the counter but I wasn’t particularly perturbed by that because the menu was giant and kind of overwhelming. Shockingly, they had no options for vegetarians. Every meal came with meat. I ordered something and subbed the meat for a fruit cup(dealing with a hefty fine) and grabbed a cup of coffee. The cups were dirty, had finger prints and coffee rings and the coffee was cold, watered down and stale. I waited 30 minutes for my breakfast before I went up to the counter and asked about it. They said that it would be out in a minute.(The restaurant was still a ghost town) The counter girl went to the back and a food runner brought out my food. LOWANDBEHOLD my over easy eggs and undercooked hash browns looked okay except the fact that bacon AND sausage on my plate(on top of all of the food) and no fruit cup. I told the server that I was vegetarian and had asked for fruit instead of meat. She picked up the plate and apologized and said that a new one would be out soon. 30 more minutes go by before I see my «new» plate of food. They took the meat off, left the food in the back for a while and then brought it out with mushy strawberries. I am not a psycho vegetarian but I haven’t eaten meat in 7 years and have been a server since I was 16. So I decided to give the place another shot. Mistake. The same girl was at the counter the next time I came in(she was nice) but my food took forever to get. I brought my laptop to pass the time but I had to use a code that was on a receipt that I didn’t receive in order to connect to the wi-fi. The food was Luke warm and wasn’t exactly what I ordered but I was fine with it because it didn’t have sausage tossed on top. Hurray for low standards!

Well talk about a descriptive name! This place is good for breakfast, and that breakfast is simple. I don’t need some crazy elaborate meal first thing in the morning. Simple is good! Today I opted for the biscuits and gravy. They have plain white and sausage. I had the plain, and it was awesome. The biscuits were huge, fluffy and pretty much perfect. It’s served with hash browns and eggs your way. A pretty traditional breakfast, and awesome. They have a build your own omelet menu that had a very respectable selection of fillings. The server recommended the breakfast burrito. It looked pretty dang good. Meals come with your choice of coffee or soda. Normally I’m not a huge fan of soda in the morning, but since i was heading to a coffee shop later in the day, it’s what I chose. I’m glad I did, because guess what they have? COKEZERO!!! I am a HUGE fan of Coke Zero, and I love to see it in restaurants. It makes me happy. The environment is clean, well lit and simple. The service was friendly and(for the most part) incredibly helpful. The tables are big, which I like since I generally have my laptop going during meals. The one smudge on their record? The nice lady behind the counter couldn’t find the password for their wifi. I was sitting there not sure what to do with myself. I’m totally a workaholic and addicted to the internets, and I had to read A NEWSPAPER! It was like 1993 all over again! Still, if I ever am in need of a non-pretentious breakfast option that’s quality for both vegetarians and carnivores alike, i’d be glad to go back to Simply Breakfast. It’s a really solid spot!

This little Westport restaurant holds true to its name. It is located on a quiet street that is great for people watching out the windows on a rainy morning. Food is ordered at the counter from a relatively small menu and the service is minimal. The staff was polite and the food was delicious but if you are looking for fantastic service, this isn’t your place. I’m originally from Michigan where there is a «mom and pop» ran by wonderful people on every corner. I’m actively seeking a breakfast place with service to boot and unfortunately this is not the place for it. If you want some good food and people watching, you’ll enjoy Simply Breakfast.

I’m a big believer in the concept of «do one thing and do it well.» I believe that our information-rich society which pushes niches in all of our shopping has really bled down to our eating habits as well, and one of the good byproducts would be a place like Simply Breakfast. They don’t have a huge menu. It’s simple, and it’s just breakfast stuff. Maybe 10 – 15 minutes from ordering at the counter to delivery of the food to our table. The owner was working the register that day and I thanked her for creating such a needed, welcoming place. Really great breakfast burrito.

After reading a few of the Unilocal!reviews about this place, I had a slight reservation about coming out here last Sunday morning. I am glad to say that, as this place is still fairly new, the majority of the negative reviews had to have been left when they first opened and were still trying to hit their stride. I walked straight up to the counter, placed my order for a breakfast burrito and took a seat mere minutes before my dish of choice was placed in front of me. The finished product alone looked like it was worth the money. The egg, tomato, sausage, and bacon filled burrito was wrapped in a spinach tortilla and cut diagonally, the two halves topped with cheese and chives were then placed on top of each other in such a way as to suggest the place at which I was dining served more than just breakfast food(see the picture I posted for evidence supporting this claim). Beyond the look of it, the food was fresh and the burrito was well-wrapped(this makes all the difference, burrito wrapping is an art that I believe can take weeks, nay, months to master), and when cut with a fork did not fall out all over the plate. The interior of the diner itself was a lot larger than I anticipated, with enough seating to easily fit a few dozen people. I sat within eyesight of the kitchen, hidden from the main room, and could see what looked like one head cook taking on most of the load for the morning. For as fast as he was running back and forth, it looked like everyone was taken care of just as quick as I was. To summarize my experience: quick ordering — check quick service — check price-appropriate — check a good joint for curing the ailments caused by staying out late on a Saturday night — check

I was excited to try a new breakfast place especially non-chain. I had the chef’s special corned beef hash. It was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly. HB had their biscuits and gravy which he said was great. The biscuits are huge! He had regular platter with one biscuit, hashbrowns and eggs and said it was more than enough for him. The dining area is small. If you don’t mind listening to other diners conversations then it’s not a problem. There were a couple of women who didn’t notice how loud their«private» conversation really was. Once I had my food it was easy for me to tune them out. But another patron trying to read his newspaper and drink coffee got up and left. It is a good place for hearty and satisfying breakfast food. My one compliant is the order board is too damn busy espeically if you haven’t had your morning coffee. I almost overlooked the corned beef hash… almost. I look forward to going back.
