So pleased to have a Shell in our little neighborhood! I’ve used their gasoline exclusively for almost 10 years — wouldn’t consider going anywhere else.

The owners recently opened a gyro/falafel stand inside the store, offering gyros, shwarma, falafel, and several other Middle Easterny takeout items. Each item is available as a sandwich/single item($ 3 — $ 4.50) or as a platter($ 5.50) with sides, including tabbouleh and hummus. Being a huge falafel fan, I’ve been ordering the falafel plate. The falafel is warm, crunchy, and reasonably well seasoned. The tabbouleh and hummus aren’t terribly spicy, but are both good. Everything tastes homemade. The portions aren’t big, but are just right for lunchtime, IMO. Good stuff for the $ 5 price tag. In case you’re squeamish about eating from a convenience store stand sandwiched in between shelves of junk food and auto supplies, no worries. This place is on the KCMO health department’s list of 2010 Grade A Food Excellence Award winners. Seriously. The awards recognize«those facilities that take the initiative to go above and beyond health code requirements to excel in sanitation and food safety.» So munch without fear. Stand hours are 11 am to 4 pm daily. A couple small tables are provided in the store, so you can eat in or take out. Exciting to finally have at least one falafel option in the Waldo-hood.
