The food was okay, but not good enough to counterbalance the awful service. I ordered shrimp fajitas, even pointing to it on the menu for the waitress. The waitress, a young, cute girl with terrible manners(she kept calling us «guys», forgetting to refill our drinks, and completely forgot to give us salsa) brought my food, which seemed suspiciously large for what I ordered. But since I had never been here before, and clarified my order with her, I ate and enjoyed my food. When the check came, I discovered I had been overcharged $ 12, from $ 5(what I ordered) to $ 17(I was charged for the Margies, which doesn’t even list shrimp as a meat option). I tried to clarify this with the waitress, who simply dismissed me by saying«you ate it, so you have to pay for it.» I will NEVER come here again, and I highly recommend that anyone who values good service not come here as well.

Ate here for the first time yesterday in a group of 6 at the noon hour. The service and food were both outstanding. We had fajitas, Enchiladas, tacos and chili Verde. Each of us had a variety of margaritas and everything was excellent. Our waitress could not have been better making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Rudy’s will definitely be our first choice for Mexican food from now on.

Love their food. We’refrom California… it’s the closest to what we ate in San Diego. The cheese on the tacos is queso fresco… not parmesan.

I loved this place and wish it was in my neighborhood — I would spend so much time there they would confuse me with the staff. The happy hour appetizers, great, margaritas — delicous and just potent enough to give me that healthy little buzz I was hoping for. The taco was really good as well. Loved the salsa and chips. The waitress — so attentive and nice. I loved the atmosphere of this place and cannot wait to go back again.

I would give the full five stars but service wasn’t great. It was our first visit so hopefully next time I can bump it to a five. I’ll start with the nachos. They are massive. Two people would do just fine with them. The toppings are generous. The shredded chicken is delicious. The only recommendation I would have is to add some of their delicious whole beans. The Baja burrito was cooked perfect. The veggies were still crisp. It was topped with melted cheese but just enough. Unlike other places that make the cheese the focal point. It wasn’t greasy. It was fresh. Portion was perfect. You finished full but not sick to your stomach. Salsa tastes like it was made in your own kitchen. Incredibly fresh. The guacamole is thick and creamy. It came on both meals and it was a hearty scoop. Had tamales this time. Amount of masa vs pork was perfect. Pork was meaty and no fat. Pork sauce on top was incredible. Service was outstanding.

Great little Mexican place! Visited on a Monday night for the first time and sat at the bar. The tacos tenampa with fideo and beans were delicious– I would highly recommend it. Staff is super friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

This place is discreetly tucked in off the side of 43rd/Westport road. I drove by many, many times before actually trying it, which I regretted as soon as I tried it! Delicious Tex Mex just around the corner from my house! They have amazing chips and their«white cheese dip» known as chili con queso is amazing! Chunks of jalapeños and bell peppers, so delicious. I normally mix the hot and mild salsa for a nice In-between heat. So far I’ve had the chicken tacos, which come in a crispy flour tortilla that almost reminds me of the chalupa shell from taco bell(don’t judge!) tamales amazing, and their enchiladas also ridiculously good. And for the price, it can’t be beat! They had live music Friday night when I was their, great experience.

Consistently good Tex-Mex at very affordable prices. We’ve been regulars at Rudy’s for several years now, so the review is based on the average experience, not just this last one, which was pretty dissapointing. I don’t know much about authentic Mexican food, but I’ll wager anything that, despite its efforts to seem authentic, Rudy’s is at best Tex-Mex, with some traces of more authentic dishes. For the longest time they offered chips and sauce, not salsa. SAUCE! Although to be fair it looks more like ketchup, than any salsa, but it tastes ok. The place is not too big, and they did their best to fit as many tables as they could so it can feel crowded, specially Friday nights. The walls feature murals reminiscent of Aztec paintings. And spanish music(mostly Mexican) is always playing, with live performances on Friday nights. The menu is large, with a lot of options. It’s peppered with poor Spanish, which I find ironic considering I’ve heard many of the staff speaking Spanish. Despite having taqueria in the name, I’ve always found that they really don’t have a large variety of tacos. Tacos take up a small corner of the menu, and they are usually fried, but you can ask for regular tacos. Service is usually good, servers are always friendly, and the food is usually served quickly. This last time the server took our order and then completely forgot about us, we had to flag down the busboy to get a refill on our water, and she was nowhere to be found after our food came out and one item was missing. I’d recommend staying clear of the back area, that was were we sat, service was very poor and it was really cold back there. The food is usually good, the kind of quality you’d probably excpect for the price, if not better. We usually have dinner here for $ 20(for both of us), excluding drinks and tip, and during lunch specials we’ve spent less than $ 15. Overall, good food at great prices. It can get crowded and loud, specially Friday nights. The rest of the times it’s usually very quick.

Rudy’s is off the beaten Midtown Mexican Food path, but it was well worth the death-defying sprint across Westport Road at rush hour(in heels, no less) for some tacos. We got in under the wire for happy hour for a really nice house Margarita, neither too sour nor too sweet. I started off with the shrimp cocktail appetizer, and damn near ordered the entrée size for dinner! Instead of big shrimp clinging around the top of a glass of sauce, this more resembled an actual cocktail of shredded seafood-I swear there was crabmeat too-and avocado chunks swimming in spicy tomato sauce. It was excellent, but I’m glad I opted for variety, because the Al Pastor tacos were, too. The chunks of pork were completely tender with a fair amount of heat, well complemented by pineapple, tomatillo salsa, onions and cilantro. The rice and beans alongside were good, but completely unnecessary after all I’d already eaten. The servers are friendly(two greeted us at the door) and don’t mind answering«which one’s best?» Prices are surprisingly low for the quality and amount of food you get, and the presentation of that shrimp cocktail was beautiful. This turned out to be a great inaugural Taco Wednesday!

I went with a few ladies from Unilocal.shout out to Billie H. for setting up Taco Night. After I figured out where to park(I drove by their parking lot 3 times, go me) I found it to be empty and spacious. We walked in, and I immediately saw Billie, and sat down at the table. I ordered iced tea and was handed a menu. The walls are stone with stone shapes, and there’s atleast one t.v. I brought my mom with me. Billie had already ordered spinach and cheese dip with chips, and it was delicious. Their chips and salsa was also tasty, but the salsa was a bit hot for me. The menu, immense. There were so many choices, I couldn’t decide. I stepped out of my taco comfort zone and ordered a tamale and enchilada. My mom had tacos. I was very pleased with my enchilada. The tamale was wrapped and wrapped and wrapped and wrapped with the corn husk. This time ordering a tamale, I knew not to eat the corn husk, but to unwrap it. I tried to unwrap it lady like and that didn’t happen. The enchilada was equally delicious. I found hundreds more items on the menu I wanted to order. There’s just so many items. Their special was calamarie tacos, which I didn’t order and later learned that calamarie was squid. Well, I’ll not be ordering calamarie, squid, really? I saw the $ 6.99 nacho special(Kim S), for me it would’ve been enough for 4 meals. I mean it was huge. We ordered and split a flan. It was perfect, but lacked whipped cream. But it was still good. I’ve always wanted to eat at Rudy’s and glad I got the chance. The service was to the point, and there’s hundreds of menu items for a return trip.

Loved this place. Salsa was awesome, I had to buy two bottles to go. Chips we warm and fresh. The restaurant is clean and fun. There is private parking so no issue there. I would like to try their desert so good excuse to go back yeah! This Mexican restaurant revivals my favorite.

Best Mexican food around. The cheese and onion enchiladas bring me back time and time again. My hubby and i recently moved from Westport to Overland Park… i tried and tried to find a place that could compare to their enchilada sauce… no one even cam close. With 10 Mexican joints in a 5 mile radius, i will choose to drive to Rudys every time. Only complaint… i wish they were open on Sundays!

Rudy’s is a hopping Tex-Mex joint in the Westport area of Kansas City, MO. I came in last evening for dinner. The place was super crowded so I ate at the bar. Their ceviche appetizer was OK – I prefer more marinated seafood. I had La Reyna(chicken and beef tacos with chorizo enchilada) to go. The bar is stocked full – try their margarita specials if you’re feeling up for it.

I have long been a fan of Mexican food and seem to stick with what I like and not venture too far from my normal restaurants. I came across Rudy’s around 7.5 years ago when a friend invited me to lunch and I have been a fan ever since. It is tucked along a street surrounded with shops around it, so it is easy to miss if you are not paying attention when driving. The restaurant is not super big and is pretty busy most of the time when I have gone for lunch. The prices are fair for the amount of food you receive. One word of warning though, I have ordered the hard tacos over the years and over this last year have been disappointed when eating them. They beef tacos taste like fish. Apparently they fry both the fish taco’s in with the beef, and needless to say, the fish overpowers the beef. I am not a fish fan to begin with and this has ruined my taste buds for their tacos. Their salsa is good; but, a bit bland if you are used to a bit more punch to your salsa. The service is usually good and people mostly friendly.

An awesome find! I was in town from Washington, DC and had just happened to pull in for a quick lunch before hopping back on the flight home. I was pleasantly surprised to walk to such a quaint and bustling environment. Walking up to the restauraunt, the place was brightly adorned with various flourescent signs. So I was totally anticipating a truely ethnic and cultural experience. Nonetheless, upon entering I was reminded that I was indeed smack dab in the middle of America’s heartland. Unphased, my girlfriend and I sat down and ordered — for me, the Torito — a sampler of apps including chicken flautas, cream cheese jalapeño poppers, and bean tostada — for her, the(something) — beet taco, tostada. The meal was excellent. The ingredients and their preparation were very simple and what I felt to be authentic and genuine.

A great place for inexpensive Tex Mex food. I’m a fan of Mexican food having lived in New Mexico for awhile. Rudy’s does a fair job of making cheap mexican dishes. If you’re around during lunch, you can easily get enough food for dinner and lunch for under $ 7. The quality is what you would expect at that price point.

A great, KC staple for inexpensive Tex Mex. Tacos are good, lots of options on the menu, and the chips and salsa are really good — the thin, cantina style chips.

Stopped in for lunch prior to heading out to the airport. Great service and the waitress did a nice job explaining the different lunch specials. I elected with the«Los Primos» special. It has 2 tacos of your choice with rice and beans. It was perfect for lunch. Had I not had to fly anywhere, I would have ordered the dinner portion which comes with 2 tacos. I ordered my tacos with soft corn tortillas. I was in and out within 35 minutes, just in time to make my flight to Chicago.

Always fast and friendly service, we eat here once a week at least! Everytime we have had quick service food never takes longer than 15 minutes to come out hot and tasty. Also the food quality has stayed consistent through the years. My ultimate favorite here is there deep fried beef tacos with lettuce and Parmesan cheese, reminds me of my Abuela’s tacos everytime! If you haven’t tried them, they should be on your bucket list! Will be back again today!
