I remember shopping at Payless a lot when I was in school. It was inexpensive, non-name brand, but still relatively good quality given the prices(notice I didn’t say«cool»). This is no longer the case. In the past I have actually gotten real leather shoes for less than 30 dollars and often pairs for less than 15. I took my daughter here for a last minute, frantic, shoes-to-match-the-dress hunt. We found a cute pair of navy peep-toe flats for her and a pair of gold sandals for me. The total came to just over $ 40 and it was BOGO. What?! Whatever…we were desperate. We wore the shoes to a wedding that evening and I found that the… fabric? …poly vinyl something spray painted gold? …mystery material was nicked in several places. Seriously? I’m sitting at a wedding, not walking through gravel and shards of glass. Cheap! My daughter was more fortunate with her cotton/poly fabric shoes. She danced the night away(until 8:30) and had no problems. I realize it should be a given that Payless would be lower quality and that was always okay with me, if the prices were also low. Now the prices are comparable to Kohl’s AND the quality is crap. Yep, I said crap. So, why the third star? Because sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures and this is your Desperate for Shoes Source. They have a large selection(not for little boys though) and fairly low prices and you’ll be good to go if you’re not buying everyday shoes.
