First of all, despite what Unilocal may say, Madrigal is NOTCLOSED. I was there personally on 8÷17÷2013 and can confirm that the venue is very much alive and well – for now at least. We got there around 11pm, and the place was EMPTY. This surprised me, as I’ve been to this venue several times in the past on Fridays and Saturdays and it’s always been busy. It picked up slightly as the night went on, but was never close to what I would call busy. This is unfortunate, as there is a lot to like about Madrigal, especially when you compare it to other bars in the area. –Cheap cover: $ 5 on a Saturday night is reasonable IMO. –Cheap drinks: I ordered a Vodka Tonic and Corona and my tab was $ 8. –Great music: Fantastic mix of latin music.(Salsa, bachata, merengue, reggaeton, etc) A really fun, engaging mix all night long. –Good crowd: It tends to be a more mature crowd than what you’ll find at P&L, and much classier. I hope that we just caught them on a slow night. The staff mentioned something about a concert in Olathe that they thought had siphoned off some of their crowd. Their tone though implied a genuine concern for the future of the venue. They were very gracious and thanked us numerous times for coming out. I genuinely hope that business picks up, because this is a really fantastic place to go, drink, dance, and just have a good time.

Went to Madrigal for their Thursday Night Salsa Dancing, and let me tell you, this place was ALIVE. Very energetic, so energetic that the Latin heat can be at times to much to bare, and you’ll find yourself going outside for some fresh air. I had a vodka tonic and though it was good, a bit to strong for me. I think if I’d finished it, I’d end up one latin ceviche on the dance floor. Moral of the story Drinks are strong and that could be a good thing or a bad thing.

This place is growing on me. It is big enough to have your space, but small enough that the staff remembers you from the last visit. Drinks are super cold and the crowd is a fun mix. You really can’t put your finger on the demographic. A couple weeks ago they featured a burlesque show. Maybe it wasn’t «Forty Duece» sexy, but I give them props for having the brass to do this in KC. I rather watch C– burlesque then watch a bunch of idiots trying to find the beat on the dance floor. Cheers!

After reading a short review about this place on the Pitch, what I saw when I walked in was completely opposite of what I was expecting. Everything is red and black — Groups of low-back chairs and tables that sit low to the ground are scattered throughout the small space, making it perfect for people watching. Large original paintings hang on nearly all the walls. The DJ booth sits in the corner, and on a Saturday night, the DJs were playing hip hop: old school, new stuff, underground hip hop. It was a really good mix of music that you usually don’t find in dance clubs. The bartenders were on top of things, but when I asked for a martini list, they couldn’t find one. I wish I could’ve tried one of their 90 martinis, my bartender did make a decent Shakar for me after I listed off the ingredients. The owners of Madrigall call it a martini bar/dance club/poetry lounge. It’d be interesting to visit this place during the day. I’m sure each night brings a different crowd of people. I love places like that, so I’ll definitely be going back.

Horrible bar service. There were two bartenders on a Friday night, and the big guy looked drunk or drugged. Didn’t know how to make a vodka /tonic(and yes, I’m even willing to give a break to a bartender that doesn’t realize you need a lime in there otherwise it isn’t the same drink). He obviously couldn’t keep track of what he was doing. I just gave up and didn’t buy a drink. Not really the kind of thing you expect from a place trying to build up some business. The DJ on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago was almost good, but not really.

This place is about the only place you’ll find on a Friday night(Lava Room being the other) that doesn’t play hop hop or top 40. The people love the DJ there and its a new venue but I can see a lot of success coming for it in the future.
