Hereford House

Came in on a Saturday around 2 and went straight to the bar. Wife and I just did a bunch of apps to split. Food was fantastic! Great HH prices. Just had house wine but that was great also. Great Saturday HH spot

Avoid if hosting anything important! I was the officiant at a small wedding ceremony (15 people) at Hereford yesterday. The back room was booked for the event and I am still reeling over the poor quality of service the event received.
The first hint of trouble was only one waiter assigned. He proceeded to deliver some of the worst service I have seen — guests were pouring their own wine & water, he had to be called back to take additional orders for appetizers, and so on.
After we’d held the short ceremony and while we were waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for food the staff proceeded to seat others in the private room. I happened to be right there and asked the hostess who was seating people whether we did have the room and her response was «That’s not what I’ve been told.» I politely asked her to check with her manager and she disappeared for perhaps fifteen minutes before the group who’d arrived reseated themselves (I can only guess they were told about the error).
When the food arrived, the single waiter delivered it all. The steaks were both cooling down and unpalatable — several folks ordered A1 and I don’t think I saw a single steak finished by anyone. To cap things off, the waiter served the bride and groom next to last.
In summary– if your event is memorable to you, don’t choose this restaurant.

I’ve been here before they got new management and yes the past reviews were right. Service horrible, but I can tell you today my dining time last night was impeccable. The staff must of had an awesome meeting and set new goals.
Our server was nothing less than amazing on a SATURDAY night and it was packed! Food was coming out on time. Drinks as well. My entrée was brought out by John a manager here, and before he left the table he asked my friend and I can we cut into our steaks to make sure it was done correctly. He was in no rush to run to other tables and was concerned with our liking. I loved that thanks John (if you read this). I asked for my second drink to be made and brought out when my entrée made its way to me and what do you know my drink came out by the server right after the manager left us. They were hitting home runs last night and I hope they keep it up.
The table next to us server was amazing too and was very attentive with them. Even adding this is a 5 star restaurant. Although in the past it was questionable but please try them or this location again you will not be disappointed.
Doggie bags are done in style now. They bring a entire serving tray with wrapping products only to wrap your leftovers up next to your table. This is new and actually very nice as you know how it’s being packed and not being tampered with. GREAT JOB new management. I will be back. Oh yea food is awesome.

Ambiance is nice, service was good & very attentive. Unfortunately the steaks were flavorless! Tender yes, appearance great, flavor no. Coworker had ribeye, who said it was really terrible — again, no flavor. Baked potato was full of salt & deliciousness (put it on the steak!!). I ate at this location 3 years ago, i remember it being wonderful. Hopefully we caught a bad night, because what i had was not worth $ 34.

In town for work and came to Hereford House with party of 4 based on local recommendation.
Arrived and was seated immediately. Service was prompt and sever was pleasant.
Expectations were high due to recommendation and ordered the prime rib. Atmosphere was nice to hold conversation without having to yell while we waited. Food came out in reasonable time. Meal was decent, but don’t believe it was worth the costs. Perhaps it was the raised expectations, but have had better.
Would return again in group setting if that’s what the group wanted. But wouldn’t make as my first choice.

20 minute wait turned into 45. Service was good, not great but dependable, despite appearing short handed.
The food was decent, but not memorable.
To me, this is Lonestar quality food posing as something better to justify a higher price.

Worst steak I have ever eaten! Very thin, lots of fat. Wedge salad good. Baked potato cold. Will never eat there again unless I want a salad.

I have to say that the food was excellent. The service is what actually ruined our experience. We had the dinner for two along with the wine pairing with each course. We were enjoying our excellent appetizer and the wine that was paired with it, and they brought out our entrees. I said wait we ordered soup and salad.
The waitress didn’t really know what to do and asked us how we should handle it. Just very green servers. We didn’t get our soup and salad until after the main course. We had to remind them of the wine pairing for all of the courses. Even almost finished dessert before we got the pairing for that. My husband and I were super forgiving until we realized that the server at that point was just trying to get rid of us.
No manager ever came to talk to us. If they did we still would have tipped 25% but they didn’t so we tipped 15% and I’m giving them this review!
Shape up Hereford!

I’ve heard for years how great Hereford House is, so I took a friend there for dinner the other night.
The service and atmosphere was nice, but the food was mediocre. We both got the prime rib, salad, a couple of sides, drinks and an appetizer. They were all just ok.
The prime rib was very fatty and full of gristle. The sides (mashed potatoes and asparagus) was bland and nothing special. My wedge salad and the combination appetizer were my favorite parts of the meal.
I hate to say this, but I would have had a better meal and experience at a Texas Roadhouse. I spent $ 200 bucks on a meal for two that I thought was fine at best. I don’t think I’ll ever be back.

A great dining experience with my family. If you really want top notch service, ask for Mike. He was prompt and very attentive. A servant and had great suggestions. The food was remarkable and as was the atmosphere. I really appreciated that we got the side room for the 6 of us. Wine was good, Mike pointed us in the right direction. I will definitely return! Thanks for a great evening.

Had lunch with out of town family today and we were all disappointed. Our waiter was super slow. When we finally got our food it was cold. Two of us had the open face prim rib (hot roast beef). Would have been way better hot. My dad got the classic steak burger and literally like 10 fries. He asked for mustard and ketchup and halfway through his burger it still hadn’t arrived. My mom got a steak salad and asked for bread or crackers which also never came. Nor did our side salads until our hot beefs were gone. Then my mom asked about the bread again and it finally arrived. My Aunt had the French Dip and it was super dry. On top of all that, it was freezing in there and the bathrooms were dirty. Will never go back. Really sad because it used to be a local favorite.

Not sure how this fine establishment could get anything less than 4 stars.
I went in a big group and the service was great Ronda was absolutely amazing, and very attentive to our rowdy side of the table!
The food was even better than the great service.

Sat at the bar for happy hour, the bartender was very cool! He knew his wines and was generous with the spirits. Steak burger sliders were tasty and cooked to perfection. Great place for a bite to eat before a night out.

This place was awesome! I had the prime rib and my wife had the strip. They tasted great! Service was top notch. Highly recommend this restaurant

Hereford House has been a let down for me. I tried a few locations for a few years, the service isn’t usually great and the food isn’t consistent. This location, however, is the best one I’ve been to in Kansas City. Our waitress, Shelby, was very good at her job and responsive. The steak cooked perfectly. I’m new fan and will swing by if I’m near the airport with a delayed flight.

Came here for the first time for dinner and totally enjoyed our meal! I ordered the prime rib while my husband ordered the filet and both were absolutely delicious! Kids enjoyed their meals from the children’s menu but liked our food a lot more and gobbled it up– that was a sign the meats were good considering our children are super picky! Would def come back again!

I had the chance on visiting KC to eat in one steakhouse. This was it. I was satisfied. I had a ribeye so juicy that even the dry part in the middle was tasty. I ordered it medium rare and that’s how it came, and the excellently attentive waiter encouraged me to doublecheck by cutting into it: I wouldn’t have felt embarrassed to send it back. Which in turn is pretty much a guarantee that I wouldn’t have to.

I had the appetizer shrimp as my entrée — not to cut costs, but because I wasn’t that hungry and I wanted room for dessert. The shrimp was good enough, but imo, everything extremely overpriced. For a menu with $ 40 and $ 50 entrees, I expect the décor/​ambiance to at least be somewhat chic. There was a Ponderosa feel lol, and the chairs were those ghastly 1960’s heavy wooden chairs. I did order their carrot cake and actually, it was one of the best pieces of carrot cake I’ve ever had. Service could have been better, but the server worked hard and we did have a table of about 15.

The steaks are good. Let’s get that straight right off the bat, and frankly that’s the only reason that they get 2 stars. The server was sweet but clueless, of the five steaks our table ordered none of them were cooked correctly. But they fixed this quickly and they tasted fine. Worst part though was the 2.5 hours we sat here for dinner.
At your own risk

This was our 2014 New Years Eve dinner with a group of friends. The atmosphere and drink selection are very nice. But I went for a steak and it was horrible!
When the waiter brought us our dinners, he instructed us to check our steak temperatures. It was obvious that he had no confidence in their kitchen. Three of the five steaks ordered at our table were nearly raw and bleeding, even though they were ordered medium and medium rare. When I received my steak back it was inedible. I am used to a Filet Mignon being extremely tender. I could have used a shaper knife because this Filet was a bit like shoe leather.
The only person in our group that was satisfied with their meal is a vegetarian that ordered mushrooms, baked potato and salad.
So you have an expensive steakhouse that can cook veggies, but not steaks!
