The Collection at the Cafe

This shop is new since we were last in Kauai. It’s associated w/​the Kalaheo Café and Coffee Company and is adjacent to it, sharing the parking lot. We had breakfast at the café this morning and afterward I wandered in to check out the collection. They specialize in gifts and art made in Kauai. There are a lot of paintings by the artist whose work is exhibited in the café, bright, lovely pieces that would bring the island home if you bought them. In the same room where the paintings hang was the most fabulous mosaic decorated surfboard shower I have ever seen. It’s a long-​board and is clearly meant to go outside, since most bathroom ceilings aren’t high enough to accommodate it. It was entrancing, the shower fixtures already attached. There are other handmade pieces, purses and bags and I forget what all else. I had a very nice conversation w/​the lovely woman who was the shop’s proprietor. I was glad I went in, both for the conversation and the chance to see that surfboard shower!
