We used Groupons and rented kayaks. Good deal. There is a fee if you want to kayak to flat island/mokolua. Our rental car was loaded up with two kayaks and we were given instructions, but could have used more. Some pieces on our kayaks broke(like the hook for the seat?!) and our kayak permits were expired and not replaced with current ones so we got flack from irritated islanders and patrol who said an expired permit was $ 500+ fine(We informed the owner who said the permits were current, but still– not cool). The location wasn’t super easy to find, but a GPS should help you out. Blink and you might miss it. The gentleman helping us was nice. :) TIPS: If you have not kayaked before … 1) they are heavy and you have to carry them, load, and unload. If you are not strong, this will be quite the chore! 2) KNOWHOWTOGETINTO A KAYAKIFITFLIPSOVER! Youtube it, please! I did it and when ours flipped over well… I knew I should just swim all 1.5 mi back to shore rather than try(as we did) and the wind/current was ridiculous that day. :(Getting back in is for experienced people imo. 3) there are no kayak nets to hold anything in(as I have seen on others). You will have to bungee/strap stuff on yourself if taking snorkeling equp/food/etc.

Had a fantastic experience with my kite boarding lessons. If you’re in the area you must try it with them.

First off I was on the oppisite side of the island of Oahu and it was very windy. I called to ask if it was very windy on the side as well and it would it make it difficult to paddle? I was told no problem, come on over. I aske are u located on the beach? No, but we’ll just throw it on top of your car. It’s more than an hour to get there and they throw it on the car. We get the the beach, 2 – 4 miles away. It’s difficult driving with this huge thang on your car and it super heavy and hard to get off the car and the seats are attached. No one asked if we knew what we were doing. There were no insturction at all and we had to carry the Kayak across the street and down the beach, it;s very difficult and we had to find someone to help us. It was so windy and difficult to paddle or get any where, it was not fun at all. I was also was afraid we would not be able to get back to shore even if we could paddle out to the islands. It was a waste of my day, it was too late to do anything else. We could get the Kayak back on the car, it fell on us and scratched the rental car. I wanted to leave it there and make them come and get it. We finally found some big strong guy to put it on the car for us. I do not recommend unless the water is smooth and they deliver the Kayak.
