Sadly they are closed down since 10÷12÷15 I loved their shakes but the customer service was really not that great(only been there about 4x)

UPDATE: 10÷12÷15 — Ruby’s is apparently closed for business. Sad that kine. See article here: — — — — — — — — — — — – Ruby’s is(was) located right at the main entrance to Ka’ahumanu Mall on Maui, so it’s quick and convenient to stop in and out for a bite without committing to weaving through a ton of people to get there. Seating was quick, and staff was genuinely sincere and friendly. The décor and throwback 60’s style Drive-in soda fountain style(theme) shop served up thick milkshakes, cute waitress outfits, and a fun and visually impressive aviation theme throughout. It was unique and fun(for kids too) without being too cheesy and overbearing. The cleanliness however is questionable with sticky seats and tables, and quite dirty bathrooms(algae rings and stains in the urinals… I kept away from the toilet stalls). However the booths are spacious and comfortable(although some chairs had plenty broken springs so it’s hit or miss), but some slight renovations are needed to fix the torn and cracked vinyl seats. Food is tasty and satisfying, but not amazing. My «Caliente Turkey Burger with Swiss Chees» wasn’t that spicy(as much as I like but then again, my fiancée is Vietnamese, so I’ve been trained well), and while perfectly juicy and well cooked, was missing that final savoriness that would bring the flavors together… maybe a pepperjack cheese instead of swiss cheese I think would have gone a long way. French fries were typical shoe string style — basic but still good. Overall happy to come back and try their other throwback diner fare…

Always gotta make a stop at Ruby’s in the kaahumanu mall in Maui. Burgers are one thing but the milk shakes are to die for. Reminds me of Johnny rocket in Vegas with the server uniforms and ambiance taking you back to the grease lightning days. Our server Anthony was our server twice in a row and made the experience even more enjoyable. The only down fall to our second visit was the hostess who didn’t look like she wanted to be there and even said so to her friend she was talking to while groups and families were waiting to be seated as open tables were waiting to be filled. All in all, it is a family favorite and will always try to make it a point to visit.

My family and I just had dinner at Ruby’s Diner, at the request of my son who is celebrating his 10th birthday today. As soon as we walked in we noticed the dirty dingy floors, which our shoes stuck to as we walked. As we were seated we also noticed several dirty tables, one with new place settings set on although the table hadn’t been wiped. Duct tape covered parts of the booths. What happened to this once cheerful, clean establishment? Our food was just okay. My kids’ cheeseburgers were papa’a(burnt black), and my salad was made with partially wilted lettuce. After we finished eating, my son adamantly said he did not want the«Happy Birthday» song and sundae, he just wanted to go home. When we went upfront to pay, I asked our waitress if they were still honoring kama’aina, to which she answered, «No, we were losing too much money so we did away with that.» Wow. I asked her if the restaurant was under new management, she said yes. I made comment about the dirty floor and she seemed surprised as she answered, «We just had them cleaned and it was very expensive.» Sorry to say we will not be returning to this restaurant. We have always enjoyed this place, also at breakfast. If the floors that greet you look that way, I’m very afraid of what the kitchen looks like… Let alone the bathroom.

I went to Ruby’s with my mom since she wanted to try their breakfast. We were at the door at 8:02AM, and the door was still locked — it opens at 8. We didn’t see anyone coming, so we went to Starbucks for coffee and tea and brought that into the restaurant. We were shown to a table that we had sat in before, with the uncomfortable seats, so we moved ourselves to another table. Two tables we looked at had crumbs on them at 8:10AM — so they weren’t cleaned properly the night before. The service took a long time. Eggs benedict came out with hard yolk, which was sent back and came back with runny egg yolk. My mom did like the eggs benedict once it came back. The bacon was crispy perfection(I had asked for extra crispy), and it wasn’t burnt like can happen when crispy is requested, and the eggs were good.

This past summer our family friends were able to visit Maui for ten glorious days, and we soaked in as much Maui goodness as possible with them. One of the fun things we got to enjoy together was Ruby’s Diner on Tuesday night… hint, hint: kids eat free on Tuesdays… don’t tell anyone. ;) Our meal was hot and fresh… made to order. The kids loved the 50s décor, and especially the classic milkshakes. I chose sweet potato fries with my meal and loved it! My burger was made to order, and since I prefer a more crispy bun I had the sourdough bread instead of a regular bun. If you’re gluten-free they have that option as well as using a lettuce wrap instead of bread, which is hard to find sometimes. Even though we came with a crowd to feed, we all left happy and satisfied with our meals. The kids had a blast sitting on the barstools for the milkshakes, too! If you’re looking for a tasty burger, and a classic diner experience then I definitely recommend checking out Ruby’s in Kahului! Your tummy will thank you! Filthy! Floors were dirty. There was a horrific odor of spoiled milk. The booth was sticky and smelly. Couldn’t eat. I’m not sure why it’s gotten from bad to worse. Lesson learned. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

I’m a little saddened to write this post. I worked for Ruby’s on the mainland for three years. Therefore, I know the expectations that are to be met & they are sadly not being met at this location. We love Ruby’s, but unfortunately they are no longer in Arizona, so any time we travel we visit the local Ruby’s. We came in late on a Tuesday afternoon, there wasn’t a host at the host stand, but someone came down the line & awkwardly showed us to a table. We waited about 5 minutes & were eventually greated. We had time to decide on everything, so when our server finally appeared we ordered our drinks and meals. It was about 5 more minutes til my shake came out. WHATHAPPENED!!! I crave Ruby’s shakes. This was not a Ruby’s shake. My mocha shake had a coffee flavor, but no chocolate undertones & it was icy, like ice crystal icy. Not velvety smooth & creamy like I’m used to. Our food came out & only one of my two fish tacos had cheese melted on the tortilla. Half of the fish was near burnt & it was very, very skinny– almost like frozen fish sticks. My husband’s burger was fine, but the fries were REALLY crispy, we didn’t order them that way & it was apparent they were made in a large batch & refried to order. The food not being to spec was disappointing enough, but the actual restaurant was shocking. The floor was FILTHY! It looked like it hadn’t been mopped in weeks & our shoes stuck in some spots. The bathrooms were disgusting! More dirty floors, paper towels all over & a lingering smell. I noticed a theme change going on, more retro than 1940’s & music from the 70’s playing in the dining room. I really hope that this visit is not a sign of a downward spiral for this company. I really do look forward to a yearly visit it whichever vacation spot we go to, but if this is how things are being done these days I’m not sure there will be much to look forward to for long.

If you are visiting /vacationing here on Maui, please put this on the bottom of your list. There are other restaurants worth going to than here. But if you are really hungry for burgers or are a burger enthusiast, then give it a try. This is your typical burger place, nothing special. We were seated upon arrival. The tables were dirty, crumbs everywhere, and the seats were wet. The seats were uncomfortable and not leveled. All the servers there are dressed in those typical burger joint outfits. For our server, she was alright. I ordered the Cobb Burger. It was okay, they put to much bleu cheese on it. Also all the burger combos come with«Refillable Fries.» Will not try again, will just go to Mcdonalds.

I had some lunch with the oldest teen today. I’m not gonna lie: I was super stoked to try a new place. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven by this place and thought to myself«I really want to eat here!» Since it’s located by the main entrance of the Queen Ka’ahumanu shopping mall, parking can be a bit tricky at certain times of the day. Today happened to be a great day with lots of parking. When you walk through the doors it feels as though you have taken a step back in time. The 50s décor is so much fun-and add in the Flintstones theme song and it’s like you’re in a time machine. I thought that Marty McFly might walk through the door at any time. Our server Katie was so delightful. She answered all of our questions and had a cheerful smile on her face the entire time she was serving us. We were able to meet manager Brant who wanted to ensure that our visit was pleasant. It was indeed. He recommended that we get a shame because there is currently a shake contest going on through the summer and one of the servers will win a trip to Disneyland! Can’t say no to that! I ordered and turkey caliente burger and my son got the ranch burger. He had a salted caramel shake and I had a coffee shake. Our server came back a few minutes later to let me know that they were out of turkey today. Aw shucks. But she gave me a bunch of different other choices including good olé beef. So caliente beef it was. :) Both my son and I were shocked at how quickly our food came out. It had to have been under 10 minutes. Everything looked great! They even gave us extra shake-because we needed more sweet treats in our day! My burger was fantastic and my teen loved his too. It was so much food that we had to pack it up and bring it home with us. Ruby’s was clean and bright and very inviting. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food was nice sized portions and very tasty. If you are on Maui and looking for a great meal, look no further than this place. The beef is from local farmers too – no hormones! Thanks for a great experience! We will be back for sure!

I had some very good garlic fries at Ruby’s tonight. The service and the people were great! Destiny was my server and she was sweat, efficient and had a great attitude. I wish I had more to report on the food but garlic fries was all I had.

Gotta love these American classics, even more so for being in Hawaii. Felt like I was in Washington state. Missed my malt milkshakes, and it’s up there with Teddys. But for almost $ 8, I made this last. Good outdoor location connected to the mall, great exposure. Nice red booths, indeed a fun atmosphere. Looks like kids would have fun, saw some kids paper ship going around, smart marketing.

My mom and I were shopping at the mall and wanted to have lunch but did not want to go to the food court so we went to Ruby’s. This is a typically 50s style dinner. No juke boxes though. We got seated right away and our waitress come over quickly to take our drink orders then later our food orders. I had the Mediterrean salad. It was basically a Greek salad with feta, tomatoes and olives. They were out of the dressing I wanted so I had to have a different one. My mom had the grilled cheese sandwich. It was tasty, a little greasy maybe. Fries were tasty. Nice and crisp. This I a nice casual place. Nothing special. Bathrooms could use a remodel. I am sure breakfast would be good.

Usually a 10 – 15 min wait for saturday breakfast, but not bad this time. Got there right as they change to lunch menu(11:30), but waitress was cool and still let us order breakfast. Decent spot for a not-too-greasy late morning breakfast. Tasty Crust has better pancakes though IMHO if you don’t give a sh“t about atmosphere and just want to eat.

It was my first time eating here, and it was pretty empty. We were waiting by the host stand maybe for 5 min. Couple staff made eye contact with me but did not get greeted, finally a server asked if we’ve been help and and then sat us. We knew what we wanted to order 5 min after we sat down, 10 min later our server finally came. He didn’t have any enthusiasm. He just came to our table with a straight face on & we acknowledged him first. Food was alright… Typical burger and fries. I didn’t get my milkshake till the very end of my meal(I had to remind my server) and there was a group of guys who came in and sat down 20 min after Us who got their milkshake before me? Overall the service and food was ehhh…

This isn’t the first Ruby’s I’ve been to but it was definitely the worst. They were out of multiple things on the menu and the server didn’t care to mention it until after I tried ordering a couple of them. The server still got my order wrong but I just stuck with it and didn’t say anything. My chicken was so over cooked and dry that I literally ate around it.(And of course the server didn’t notice… I personally am a server, we typically notice these things and ask if everything was okay) The staff all seemed to be a little inattentive and just huddling around talking to each other while several tables were waiting to order or waiting for their check. Definitely will never be going back to this location.

The food here is really excellent. We have visited multiple times because honestly THIS was the best burger I’ve had on Maui, and I’ve had a few. They have a huge menu with diner type items and everything I’ve tried was simply perfect. Juicy burgers with great flavor, crispy bread or buns and perfectly cooked fries with a variety of options. I’ve been constantly disappointed with food on the island and this was definitely a win. The only downside to the business is that it’s not very clean when we’ve been, even during slow times and the employees while extremely nice and hard working, do not maintain a professional appearance despite having uniforms. It feels like a dirty dive even though it’s a bright chain type restaurant but we continue to go back for the friendly service and excellent food. They also have kama’aina rate which we appreciate too.

Ruby’s is a ‘50s style diner with a lot of classic«American foods». I’ve had breakfast at the one in Ghirardelli Square and thought I’d try the Wailuku one out for dinner. They have lots of burgers that look great and were pushing what looked like a glorious pumpkin shake, but I’m on a long overdue health kick so I opted for the«De-Lite» Chinese chicken salad. The lettuce and ingredients were fresh. The dressing was good but pretty potent so I’m glad it came on the side. The décor is fun with Hawaiian Pan Am Airlines posters throughout and a cool aviator theme. It has those neato old bar stools and countertop that makes me wanna go stage a sit-in or some such, though fortunately, segregation never touched the valley isle. The music is nostalgic and makes me think of my grandfather and the wait staff is dressed in traditional ‘50s garb. So while my salad was good not outrageously good the reason I’m giving five stars(my first five star rating btw) is the tremendous service provided to the group next to me. The group was comprised of differently abled/special young adults and the Rubys staff treated them awesome. You could tell everyone was really happy to be dining out and the patience, kindness, respect and enthusiasm shown by Ruby’s was fantastic. It made me feel good about my entire dining experience and was a nice way to end my day. I will definitely return.

Good breakfast alternative. Delicious cinnamon roll French toast — three generous pieces, very tasty. Denver omelet had ham that had been cooked on the grill, with nice crisp burn marks. Very tasty. Excellent service, plenty of coffee refills. Well spaced tables. Interesting airplane theme throughout.
