Port of Juneau

Such a beautiful place, especially in the winter when things are so much calmer here. In the summer this place is PACKED with tourists and you’ll see cruise ships and float planes all over the water ways. In the winter, it is a calmer more peaceful place. There aren’t as many things open in the port area, but the Russian Dumpling place, The Hanger and a few other shops are still open in the winter too. When the clouds clear and you can see the mountains is the most wonderful treat from the port, and in the later summer and winter, it’s hit or miss. Take a nice little walk and enjoy the sea air!

Easy off and on to the ship.
The state’s Capitol is easily accessible from the cruise ship ports. Well paved and marked trails around the port and into the city make it an easy stroll. At the edge of the port are a line of stores for souvenir shopping. And also a string of huts if you want to check out some shore excursions. The Mt Roberts Tram is also right there on the pier. The area is very well maintained and clean, considering there were four large ships in that day, which is probably 10,000 people ashore at once.
Once in town, it is litterly all right there. Everything seemed like it was just a 10 minute walk to anything. The Capitol building and museums were easy to find. Lots of shopping areas. Several hidden gems, like the Russian Orthodox Church were well marked to find them without any trouble.
The Gastineau Channel is quite the sight. Tall tree filled mountains that plunge almost straight down into the beautiful clear blue water. The calm water that is home to the liveliest water creatures– otters and seals.
A nice area to spend the day in.

The port of Juneau is like all of the other dock ports with a couple of notable pluses. First, my At&t and Tmobile service are at full strength; I don’t have to depend on the ship’s wifi. Secondly, it looks like there’s more restaurants to visit during our time in port. I’m looking forward to the time here.

Like many cruise ports around the world, the port of Juneau is catered for all tourists attractions you can think of.
There are many souvenir shops as well as food options. Well, since I was a tourist this was good for me. Tracy’s King Crab Shack is found at this port. That is a must! There is also the Alaska Fudge Co which makes wonderful fudge and treats. The store fronts and walk areas are kept very nice and clean.
If you are one of the many cruisers docking here, enjoy the port of Juneau! They offer more than some of the other Alaskan ports along the way.

The city of Juneau was very small, but I cannot say we can complain about the port. Our ship actually tendered us to shore and everyone we encountered thereafter was very nice and helpful. If you are in Juneau, definitely visit the glacier!

Jwuneau was our lweast fwavorite pwort of cwall in Alwaska, thwought mwost of the excwursions were excwellent!
