While visiting Julian, I stopped by the Julian Grille since I wanted a dog friendly restaurant with table service. It was a beautiful day so I was able to sit outside on the large patio with my pup. The patio has cheap plastic white chairs, but the tables are nicer and more sturdy. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich and a glass of wine. It’s nice that the Julian Grille supports local Julian wineries by serving their wines. It wasn’t a particularly busy afternoon when I came by with only about half of the tables outside filled, yet it took 35 minutes to get my sandwich. My waitress apologized for the delay, but I definitely understand what other Unilocalers have said about slow service. I ordered my sandwich with sourdough bread. It was slightly odd, because the bread seemed to fall apart. Although, it did taste good.

Very disappointing. Food was below average, prices were way too high and the server just tolerated us. Would never return nor recommend to anyone.

Loved the atmosphere and the fish & chips. Our sever was super sweet too and for a busy Valentine’s Day she was on top my refills.

First off, waited 15 minutes as servers walked passed us not making eye contact before even being aknowledged. We had a 7pm reservation, we’re there around 6:35. I admit we were early, but as other people come in and get seated first come first served as we wait until 7:20 to be seated, it kinda sets a bad tone for the evening. I ordered the chicken Alfredo, and he ordered the baby back ribs. Food came out in 15 minutes, not bad. My Alfredo sauce was the consistency of water, and I’ve made rice-a-roni better than their rice pilaf. No soup or salad options with the dinners that were $ 20 and $ 30. I was expecting a great meal(especially for the price). The only reason I ate was because I was starving from waiting so long! This place is terrible! We will never come here again.

I’m a fan for a couple of reasons. The service was fantastic, the waitress was darling and polite. The food was good, the fries were great and crispy, the spinach salad was generous and fresh. They actually offered Dijon mustard. And they split our two plates without asking or charging. I left my purse there with an open envelope of cash and couldn’t go back for two days. Every person I spoke to,(Maria, Patty…) let me know they’d locked up my purse to keep it safe. They are such lovely people, it made me an instant fan. The food tastes even better now. They also serve local wines with generous pours. I find that’s always a treat when you can enjoy the local stuff. Thanks for being such honest«folks». Sit in the inside porch for a view of the town unless it’s warm out, then outside would be nice. It’s about 15 – 20 degrees cooler in Julian than the flatlands.

Definitely the best dining in Julian. Very quaint do the prices which I don’t mind since the quality was top notch. Very fast and efficient service with a smile. Skip all the other restaurants this is the ONLY one that will satisfy you trust me.

I really enjoyed our dinner here. We went with eight friends to celebrate a birthday. We were able to have the carriage room to ourselves which is good for goofy group like ours. My ribeye was done just right and my husband didn’t leave a scrap of the Jerusalem chicken. Everyone really liked their meals and that includes vegetarians too! It was a good choice!

Don’t bother if you are hungry and would like to eat within an hour and half of sitting down. After an hour we went to see what the hold up was and they assured us our food was being plated, 30 minutes later our food was served though the other half of our party had to wait longer… Ridiculous! Food was ok. They didn’t even offer to comp a meal. Really? We asked what the problem was and they advised only 1 cook today. Ok, something you might want to mention to your guests. Customer service obviously not important…

The food at this restaurant is great! but don’t come here on a busy day unless you are prepared to wait and to forgive slow service. That being said, I totally thought it was worth the time we spent there. My boyfriend and I took a trip to Mt. Laguna/Julian during school break and on a wintry day so the entire town was packed. We had a good wait for a table, and then the service was slow once we sat down but the food and drinks made up for it and then some. I had a warm buttered rum drink… honestly I wish I could die mid-sip because it was that good. Same goes for BF’s warm apricot drink. Oh my god just thinking about it is making my mouth water. The food was also incredibly satisfying. Their fare is mostly home-style favorites, I had a french dip and my boyfriend had a burger. The Dip didn’t come with cheese so I guess there’s some room for improvement, but the meat was tender, the bread was crusty, and the au jus was au-mazing. It’s 12:00 right now, and I’m wishing I had chosen any other time to write this review, because the memory of our food and drinks on top of being hungry is too much to handle. We’ll eat here again for sure.

We have eaten here before and it was good. Today it was very busy(day after thanksgiving) but the service was still pretty good. I was disappointed with where we sat, there was a bug on the window walking around. There was also a hair on our pepper shaker. Additionally the homemade chicken pot pie was bland. The dip sandwich was good.

Came here at night and day outside next to the firepit. We had a dog but the firepit kept us cold in the 48 degree weather. We ordered the jalapeño raviolis which were very tasty, better than jalapeño poppers. The bread was fresh and warm, soooo goood. I ordered a shrimp cocktail which had large shrimp approximately 5. Very delicious. We had roast beef ticklers, OMG so juicy and flavorful. My son had a ribeye steak that was made perfect and he showed they did by finishing every last piece. It came with mashed potatoes that were fresh and good also. My husband had Chicken Jerusalem, he said he loved it. We finished off with Apple pie of course, very delicious.

Fireplace in the main dining room. Very charming and the food was good. We had the kids grill cheese, chicken pot pie and pulled pork sandwich. I ordered soup instead of fries and of course got fries. Waitress never checked back with us to be able to fix it. Son wanted a soda after finishing hot chocolate– never asked. Busy but missing additional sales. I had a glass of wine and those that know me, know they missed out on sales. Overall nice late lunch but…

This place was overall decent. The food is a bit too pricey for the quality, and we waited for about 30 minutes on the patio before anyone came to take our drink orders. Pros: Fully stocked bar Really good bread(enough to note) Staff was friendly(but it took us asking them 3 times before our server came around) Cozy indoor seating Ambient outdoor seating Cons: Slow service Menu is too pricey for the quality you receive Inconsistent check ins by servers I don’t think my wife and I will be returning.

If you’re dressed even *remotely* like a biker, do NOT bother with the Julian Grille. They hostess was extremely friendly to the two couples who came in directly ahead of us and seated them immediately. However, she was exceedingly rude to my husband and myself, and although the dining room was empty, she said it would be at least a half an hour until she could seat us. Although my husband and I were nicely dressed, it was obvious that we had ridden up there and there is NO doubt in my mind that that fact informed her attitude towards us. I’ve dined in some of the finest five star restaurants in the country and Europe, and have never been treated so atrociously. Instead we went down the street to the Miner’s Diner and had a fantastic lunch, our waitress was lovely, and the service was phenomenal. This establishment clearly thinks that they are something that they most definitely are not.

My Pasadena City College tour bus finally stopped at Julian after leaving Dudley’s Bakery and Julian Pie Company in Santa Ysabel. We got there by 1215pm, and I was starving for protein. Once we got to go on our own, I popped in Julian Grille Café for lunch since everywhere else was packed and this place was still somewhat emptied. Hmmm… that should’ve been a sign… For $ 10.42(total and taxes) — the home made chicken pot pie was a joke. Even Marie Calendar makes’em better. The crust on top looked and tasted nasty and so hollow inside. Looked like a mutated, deformed Chinese crueller that you would eat with porridge. The only thing I liked about it was the chicken pieces which were big chunks and they were soft and tender and I needed protein before I went venturing around Julian. The veggies in it was alright, but for $ 10.42 — their Specials — lol, I rather gor Marie Calendars instead. The restaurant settings was nice and it was converted to a restaurant from a house. Service was decent, though the girl who took my food and order didn’t looked too thrilled working and hardly smiled. Nonetheless, she refilled my water as needed and checked on me. Though, I wasn’t too thrilled with the hostess/manager. She eyed me like I was gonna rob the place, and had me wait a while, and once a crowd came in after, that’s when she acknowledged me, but got my name wrong even though I said«Kim» and I dunno how I got the name Vicky??? I wanted to like this place based on the recommendation from my tour guide, but after dealing with the food and service — f**k it and pass it!

What a lovely restaurant tucked into what used to be a home in downtown historic Julian. My husband and I were in town for the first annual Sip of Julian and we needed dinner late-ish on a Saturday night and although the place was near closing time they seated us. The greeter even lit the patio fire for us as we sat down. Points! I ordered the ribeye and my husband had the prime rib. My steak was beyond delish, perfectly cooked and no need for A1. Yay! The potatoes and veg that came with it were tasty and I ate every bite. Unfortunately the hubby did not enjoy his prime rib which he said was burned on the outside and too raw on the inside. He does not ever send his food back but just deals with it being British. Oh well. I had a glass of house merlot which went well with my dinner and I looked at my husband for dessert and he ordered a seriously delicious cheesecake. Perfect ending. The price for what we got was average and the service was great so we love this little house and plan to return on our next escape to lovely Julian.

The atmosphere made up for a lot. Quaint. Likely the best dining in Julian. I ate appetizers and wine. My husband had steak special. Really hit the spot after a long hike up stonewall peak

I had a BLT on sourdough and it was huge and great tasting. Even though I came with a large party the food was out to us very quickly and wasn’t to expensive. Great outdoor seating area so you can people watch.

I don’t know why this place only has 3 stars. I’ve been coming here since I was 18 a few times out of the month. I love everything about this place, cottage feel. The food is pretty good. I always get the chicken fettuccine or burger. I must say… It is amazing! Maria is the sweetest lady ever. She does not age…(Lol) Shes great and is always ever so welcoming to us.
