Love this place! One of my favorite Jap restaurants in downtown Jersey City. Lots of variety on food and really really delicious sushi. Also love that they have the option of white or brown rice.

Ordered delivery on a Tuesday night and they were able to deliver within 30 minutes. I tried the roti canai and the tonkotsu ramen. The roti canai was great! The roti was perfectly warm and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The curry was also very flavorful but the potatoes ruined the texture and the chicken pieces were too small to even tell what it was. The ramen was very average, not bad but nothing unique.

I have had hibachi-teppan style food many times before. This put Benihana to shame! I was completely blown away by the quality of food. The entertainment by the chef was pretty average but that’s ok because I’m not 12. The noodles were the biggest surprise. I have been dreaming about the noodles. Get them. Now.

Been here several times and the food has always been delicious. Have gotten rolls, noodles, and done the hibachi there! Even celebrated two of my daughter’s birthdays there with friends on the exact day of her birthday. Gotta celebrate often… on exact day, if it doesn’t fall on a weekend, and then the weekend BIGPARTYBLOWOUTGIG.: P The chefs are good and entertaining. The food is yummy! Service is also very good. I have always been able to find street parking surprisingly, considering that area is terrible for street parking. Though, I believe they also have parking that is either free or vouchered. The location is good. Ambiance is lovely and the décor is gorgeous. Will definitely continue to go here. Very good local hibachi place that also has a regular restaurant side! All Good. ;)

We went there for sushi, but greatly disappointed. Fish were old, sushi rice was hard and the portions were pretty small. Miso soup was okat, and the restaurant had a nice ambience. You can try other things in the menu, but definitely sub-par for sushi.

Went there via PATH as the restaurant is just two blocks from the Grove St. station. When I came in, I told the owner that I made a reservation for one today at 12:30 pm, but there was no email conformation. To the left of the entrance, there are hibachi grills. One of the chefs came to the grills with a cart full of food ready to be grilled. To the right, there is a sushi bar, counter seating, table seating, and an alcohol bar. The place wasn’t that buzy. I ordered the chicken satay, the roti canai, and the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi lunch special, which I had the filet mignon grilled median rare. The chicken satay is served with pickles as it was an South East Asian dish. The roti canai is a Indian dish consists of two roti pancakes with a mild curry stewed with chicken and potatoes. The hibachi lunch special consists of veggies, shrimp, noodles, and filet mignon. While I enjoyed my lunch, I saw a group of five Japanese friends sitting on an adjacent table. They also ordered the roti canai and beef.

We have eaten at Teppan twice so far, and will definitely be going back for more. The last time was 2 weeks ago, when we had the chef’s selection sushi, which was fresh, innovative & delicious. We also had an order of hot edamame, which was a first time item for my dining partner & he loved it! The ambiance is quiet enough for a date, but still lively enough that it doesn’t feel too somber. The bar seemed to be quite busy as well, although we opted to sit at a table. Service was quite good, attentive, & our waiter was willing to accommodate special requests. The only thing I would suggest is that when serving the chef’s selection sushi, the server describe the items being served since they are different each time. Other than that, the food was amazing, & we will definitely be back there again soon — HEADTOTEPPANFORGREATSUSHI&HIBACHI!

Awesome food, atmosphere and service!!! I’ve been there twice and each time I had the same wait staff and got the same excellent service as I did the first time I went. Teppan Bar & Grill is now my favorite Sushi Bar in Jersey City, NJ!!! Awesome food, atmosphere and service!!!

3– stars for pricing 4 stars for the quality of food, but small portions! They have a nice cute restaurant for date nights. I ordered the Roti Canai $ 5 which was delicious but too expensive. Ive been to other places before for $ 3.50! Each roll was about $ 14-$ 16 estimated and then you had one or two rolls for $ 19(lobster roll). The sushi rolls were fresh and good, but they were a bit small for the price. Service was good and our server was very patient with us since we were new. I haven’t tried the hibachi, but I will probably go back with a group of friends to try it out. This is a good place for sushi if you are ok spending that much money on it. It’s hard to find a decent sushi place in JC!

I never had sushi in Jersey city before, so I decided I should at least try one place out. Therefore, I came to Teppan because it was the highest rated Japanese restaurant we found on Unilocal. The ambience is chill and the decorations make the place look quite high class. We started with the Roti Canai, which comes with 2 pieces of roti and a delicious curry chicken dipping sauce. Once I saw this on the menu, I had to order it before the waiter even greeted us because I love it that much. This is a definitely great appetizer to start with. It is small, but it is hella delicious. For sushi, we ordered the Mets and Atlantic Roll. My favorite one out of the two is the Atlantic Roll because I have a thing for shrimp tempura. The salmon in the Mets Roll was fresh. I enjoyed both rolls, but I would definitely lean toward and rolls with shrimp tempura. Overall, I believe the sushi is a bit overpriced for the size of the roll. I understand that they are located in downtown jersey city, but it’s definitely not a «bang for your buck» kind of place. I would definitely come visit again and try the hibachi side of the restaurant.

The service at Teppan is amazing. We’ve been for date night and for family fun and they never disappoint. They make the experience fun and entraining for kids. We went for my son’s fifth birthday and they made him feel so special. When we go with friends, they are professional and on point. Even the take out here is great. It always beats the estimated time. The hidden dragon roll Is the best.

I happily enjoyed this place when I went on a Monday night before going into Brooklyn for a Nets game. Was really shocked on how empty it was but hey it was a Monday at 6 pm so sure. Found parking easily right outside. Those spots are good after 5pm on weekdays. Came to this place initially because the $ 1 sushi menu caught my eye. Called to verify and the lady was super nice over the phone. With the amount of emptiness at this place, decided to sit at the bar with my best friend. Very comfortable chairs and a nice table top with tvs. You can see all of their liquor selection and it’s decent. Started with two glasses of water and two shots of Absolute Pear. Wow the shot was an actually shot glass and it was only $ 6 !!! Whattttt that’s awesome !! Not a bar that wants to charge you an arm and a leg for liquor. I ordered miso soup and sashimi(smoked salmon, salmon, and shrimp) while my friend ordered rolls and two pieces of tuna. The fish is really fresh ! So fresh I ordered the same thing again. The smoked salmon was my favorite. It was a pretty thin slice but it had the nice smokey flavor to it. Didn’t overpower the taste of the fish itself at all. Pair it with a piece of pickled ginger and yum. Almost as good as a Philadelphia roll. Eh I love cream cheese so hmm tough one. Service was good too. The bartender was kind and attentive. Thumbs up. Would definitely come back!

Teppan Bar & Grill has Japanese, Chinese, and Thai, all in one place. Usually, places like these are disasters. There are too many options and none of the cuisines are particularly good. But this place was better than I expected. We ordered takeout through Seamless(free delivery over $ 15). I got the sushi roll special, which is 3 rolls of your choice out of spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, spicy white tuna, and spicy california, and either soup or salad. The rolls were pretty standard. There was a good rice to fish ratio. My boyfriend ordered General Tso’s chicken. It was a little bit too salty so the rice it comes with definitely helps balance it out. Plus, the chicken was cooked perfectly. It wasn’t dry or anything. I wouldn’t mind ordering from here again, or coming in to try some of their lunch specials. Some of them seem like good deals!

Teppan is probably one of the best Japanese places in Jersey City. Well, I dunno about others. I mean I always come to this place when I need sushi or bento box for lunch in JC. The prices are very reasonable here. You can get 2-roll sushi lunch special for $ 9 or $ 12 for 3 with soup or salad. Bento box is only $ 10. Fried squid legs($ 8) as well as Jalapeño Sashimi($ 15) are amazing appetizers. A HUGE bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen is $ 10. You just can’t beat that price. Spicy Scallop and Yellowtail Jalapeño Rolls are my favorites. Staff are nice and attentive.

If I could give this place more stars I would! Being a huge lover and fan of all things hibachi. I always found it surprising that NYC, one of the food capitals of the world, had none!(Chain hibachi ie Beni Hana don’t count ;)). Then along came my discovery of Teppan and all my dreams came true. I’ve been here a few times now and food has been consistently good if not amazing, service superb, generous portions. I’ve been here for lunch and dinner(hibachi only), have taken guests/friends here, and everyone has loved it. AND… They deliver! There are very few places that are great for ALL ages — Teppan is one of them. Pros — aside from food being absolutely delicious, they are very accommodating to requests(ie adding extra garlic, spice etc) Negatives — none Tips — pay the extra $ 2 for the fried rice!

Finally! A new go-to sushi spot in the hood for all of those nights when I’ve really got a hankering for some of my Japanese faves. Teppan, I’ve got a strong feeling that this won’t be our first encounter. I dropped in to pick up some late night sush to go, and after scoping out the interior I was bummed about not dining in. The space is absolutely massive, complete with two floors and lots of hibachi tables towards the back. Teppan has got a really sleek and modern interior and makes for a great atmosphere to go on a date or have a birthday dinner. I was feeling less of a full meal and more of a munch, and opted to go with a shrimp tempura and avocado roll, hold the mayo please. Mayo on a roll… WHY?! I never have and never will get it. For 8 bills the roll was pretty large, considering that it wasn’t a speciality roll. The avo was a wee bit skimpy compared to the shrimp but I didn’t mind. I wish that I had more food to review, but I’m sure I’ll have a better run down of the eats next time I go in. The BF went all out and ordered a spicy salmon and an out of control roll. Out of control, it was. There was a lot going on there– tuna, salmon, yellowtail. Not my cup of tea, but he really enjoyed it and even went to far as to call it some of the best sushi that he’s had, like ever. Arnold Schwarzenegger voice — «I’ll be back…» But seriously. There’s no reason not to hit up Teppan when I’m home and want a sushi fix. Next time, I’m going for the hibachi.
