Wow! What a gem in my neighborhood! I’m not vegan or even a vegetarian but the menu is satisfying, the store is full of great finds from fresh veggies and various nut milks to a great selection of breads and pastas. I had the Zen sandwich with sliced tempeh and amazing kimchi-like veggies and such a great zesty sauce. I also had a smoothie with avocado, banana, almond butter and almond milk and it was exactly like an ice cream milkshake! I’ll be coming back, and often.

Good food. Mostly mock meats. Excellent juices. Semi pricey. Slow service always best to call in orders. Nice owners and staff.

Update: It seems that the previous employees that weren’t very friendly don’t work there anymore! Subias food is great and I am super happy with everything. California dreaming burger and the Reuben are AMAZING. — — — /-/-///// I have been living down the street from subias for about five years now and come here now and again for bread, dates, chippies, that amazing apple juice in the glass bottle that they have and veganaise(one of the only places that have it around these parts). I enjoy their little market area and appreciate the way the owners take special care to help out. There are two women who I presume are the owners(they look like they could be related and are maybe Cuban? They look Latina) they are both SO kind and remember me and are always happy to strike up a conversation. They sometimes have strange hours but I am kind of used to that coming from a weird shore town that has little mom and pop places. Today with much sadness, I have to give subias little stars because of our service. I have been getting subias on Fridays during the day when I work from home and it’s been great! I got the vegan Reuben and my non vegan boyfriend was addicted so we went into subias today(Sunday) at 3:00pm for late lunch. According to Google, subias does not close until 4:00pm. We went to order and the cashier said they they are closing early today, in ten minutes they would be closing up the kitchen and to give them our order now before they close. So we chose, went up to the register to order our BBQ riblet sandwich and the Reuben. I was really surprised when we were told by the cashier: The Reuben sandwich takes the longest to make and like I said we are closing the kitchen. Order something that takes less time. I was kind of surprised! We just said no thank you and left. I would just have appreciated them saying that they are closing early and not taking orders!

I ordered the Reuben and my partner ordered the Philly cheesesteak. This is BYFAR the best vegan food that I’ve had in a long time. The bread was very fresh, along with all of the other ingredients. The customer service was great and the chef even came up to us afterwards asking how the food was. You can definitely tell that this place is quality and cares about their customers. I will for sure be coming back.

Stumbled upon this place after a recent trip to Liberty State Park. My wife had the Reuben and I had the Cheesesteak both of which were fantastic. If I lived closer I’d be here all the time as the menu was loaded with the kinds of foods I love(Buffalo Chicken, Cheesesteak, Burgers, etc…). I can’t speak to the service as parking in the neighborhood is tough and we had our dog with us so we grabbed it to go and ate in the car. A little pricey but well worth it.

I want to like this place, because it’s vegan, but they have crappy service. After I told them it was my first time here, the two ladies who seem to be owners weren’t all too helpful. After I ordered at the counter, I pulled out my wallet to pay, but the woman who had taken my order went to check her phone, and the other woman rang up someone who had just walked in the door(even though I was standing right there with my wallet). So while she did that I walked around the store and a moment later went back up to try to pay. The ladies were talking to each other, so I interrupted and asked if I should pay or not. Only after I asked did they ring me up. Lol! Even after they rang me up, they just said«thank you» while giving me my change, as if I was leaving. They didn’t say anything along the lines of «you can take a seat,» «your order will be right out,» or «we’ll bring your food out when it’s ready» or anything like that. All in all it could have been worse, but I’m just disappointed because a vegan restaurant with bad service can turn people away from veganism. Step it up, guys!

Absolutely delicious vegan sandwiches and entrees great smoothies and juices. One problem– the wait for your order is interminable. I just don’t know why it takes as long as it does. So, if you’re not in a rush, this is the place!

The lentil soup was delicious and I liked the easy-going atmosphere, but the service was poor. My lentil soup came out immediately(great!) but it took almost 20 minutes for my friend to get her fruit smoothie. It was also difficult to find someone so we could pay our bill.

Came in once for a smoothie, I needed a quick breakfast before running errands. The smoothie was delicious, but too pricey and it took way too long to make.

Sooo sooo so good! I dragged my family here(my boyfriend and I are vegan, family is not) and we were all super happy with our meals. I ordered the tempeh sand which, GF — delicious and perhaps the best vegan, GF bread I’ve ever had!!! Everything was flavorful and really well put together. YUM Service was warm and welcoming. My green juice was«strong». They definitely didn’t skimp on the greens.

I was visiting a friend in Jersey City and we wanted to grab something to eat before I would get back behind the wheel to drive home. Enter: Subia’s. Even though my friend has lived in Jersey City for a few years now, she didn’t know about this place. I guess it’s a small organic grocery store, but we were really just there for the café: D We ordered the black bean burger, the California dreamin’ burger, the reuben sandwich, and a #8 smoothie. Everything was so delicious! You could tell the burger patties were homemade(always a plus in my book!) and the sauces on the reuben brought together the flavors of the sandwich ingredients really well. The portions were very generous and I wish I hadn’t been so stuffed, I’d have loved to try the carrot cake and cinnamon rolls as well. Unfortunately, the rest of the store looked like it might be a bit pricey, but I definitely want to come back for the food :)

The only reason I am not giving this place a 5 star is the price. It’s a little pricey BUT the food is great. I am considering going vegetarian/vegan and this place has convinced me its possible while still getting the flavors of meat.(yup I said it) I ordered the chicken parm, which I don’t usually order but thought it would be a safe introduction. Portions were sizable in and the taste was great. I also ordered the carrot cake it was moist and delish. Will order again and maybe go in to start my Vegan/Vegetarian pantry. Highly recommend.

This review is for the café. I wish I could comment on the food, but I never got any. After patiently waiting at my table for 15 minutes and being ignored, I tried making eye contact, waving… everything short of yelling… it was as if I was invisible. No one even acknowledged my existence. I thought maybe I didn’t understand and needed to order at the counter, so I walked up and stood there for a while as the 2 people working continued to ignore me. Then I left. I wish I could leave zero stars.

Cute organic market with high quality superfoods and nutritional vendors. This shop can help you skimp out on visiting Whole Foods since they are equivalent to a healthy food paradise. It’s an amazing addition to JC since most bodegas do not carry healthy foods and sell chips instead of toasted seaweed. This is a must visit to those who want to indulge in health or are looking to see what products are beneficial to them. They also sell juice and a variety of wraps, all that I am looking to try in the future. In the meantime they saved me a trip to the supermarket. JC needs more healthy markets like this that sets a good example on health.

I’ve been here before but this weekend may have been my last. As the only vegan spot in the area this place is pretty enticing to me, but the service was so bad it ruined the whole experience. 1 person of 3 person party didn’t recover her pancakes until the other two were done eating. When we arrived we were the only people there and we waited and waited and had the nerve to say the grill was having problems as they served someone who came in after us a stack of pancakes. They weren’t even apologetic and didn’t seem to see any problem with not having her meal(which was only pancakes!) ready after waiting so long. She even left to get food at Wonderbagel because she was so hungry and we had already finished eating. I was so embarrassed to have taken my friends there. They took the pancakes that we never ate off the bill but didn’t apologize or have any remorse at all. Aside from this the chicken nuggets were pretty good, the almond butter and jelly sandwich was fine and the meatballs were really good but barely be eaten as a sandwich because of the thick/hard bread. The experience was so frustrating I couldn’t see myself going back despite the vegan appeal.

Subia’s is a vegan spot that is good for breakfast and lunch. The menu is quite large and has some vegan spins on classics — meatball sub, philly cheese steak, burgers, etc. I ordered a smoothie(#4, with various berries, mango, and coconut milk) and the Mediterranean Hummus Sandwich. The smoothie was delicious and not too sweet. It was also a little more filling than I had anticipated. The sandwich was huge(see below)! Typically it comes with tomatoes in addition to the greens, onions, avocado, and hummus. It also had some kind of horseradish spread that I couldn’t really taste. It was served on a whole grain ciabatta which was nice and fluffy. The quality of ingredients was very good. Overall the sandwich was good but not remarkable. My biggest complaint, and what will make me think twice about coming back, is that the menu is really heavy on the faux meat and faux cheese options. When I eat at vegetarian spots I really prefer to see what they can do with vegetables to make original dishes. It was also much more pricey than what I thought it was worth.

Subia’s is a vegan paradise! Seriously! Where else can you go eat delicious vegan food, drink an organic juice and leave holding a bag full of organic groceries?! Yes! This place has it all: delicious vegan food, organic smoothies and juices, and an array of organic fruits and vegetables, plus a large selection of organic vegan items, cleaning supplies, detergents, sunblock, toothpaste(cruelty free to boot) — you name it. I mean, these people care about our health, our environment and our friends the animals. Can’t get better than this! Only down side is I don’t live close by — otherwise I’d be here everyday. #subiasrocks #govegan

I had been looking for a vegan brunch spot in the Hoboken/Jersey City area for awhile. After thinking there was no hope, I stumbled upon this unique spot! I can’t say enough good things about the experience. Not only was the service swift and friendly, but the vibe and old-timey music set such a comfortable mood. I had the chocolate chip pancakes with flaxseed and sausage while my friend had the brunch platter. Followed by a homemade vegan carrot cake… I must say I was quite impressed! The market accompanying this café housed a lot of hard-to-find brands. All in all this vegan spot gets my A+++ rating and I’ll most definitely be coming back.

Thank god I’m on the wagon these days, because the money I’m not spending out in bars has helped subsidize the exorbitant costs of breakfast and lunch at Subia’s the past two weeks. Prior to this, I would have laughed at anyone who dared suggest I eat a meal at a vegan restaurant, because, well, I don’t do vegan. Hell, I don’t even do vegetarian. I’m a full-blown, unapologetic, calorie-loving, red meat-eating foodie. But a recent epiphany about getting older and the need to survive long enough to see my 5-year-old daughter one day get married has triggered a few changes. Working near Exchange Place, the pickins for any form of healthy food is very slim. And no, Muscle Maker Grill is an unacceptable option. Thankfully, I work with a few vegans and more than a few vegetarians, and all were unanimous in trying to win me over to Subia’s to become my go-to place for healthy and delicious breakfast and lunch options in Jersey City. And considering I ate five meals there already this week and it’s not even Friday, I suppose I have to admit their plan is working out nicely. I have yet to eat an actual breakfast meal here, though the menu does sound tempting. Somehow I’ll have to forget the fact that eggs aren’t eggs, cheese isn’t cheese, and sausage, bacon, and salami aren’t actually meat. But if these strange understudy ingredients manage to cook up nicely, deliver good flavor, and at least come close to mimicking the texture of their non-faux counterparts, I suppose I could get into them. For now, breakfast at Subia’s has consisted of a freshly made organic juice yielding just the right amount of pulp, with an apple and banana on the side to go. When I’m in a bright red mood, I order up a juice concoction consisting of dandelion, ginger, beet, and carrot. On a green day, I go with a kale, spinach, beet, Swiss chard, apple and spirulina blend. I never knew juiced veggies could taste so good and so sweet. This one is a no brainer to maintain. As for lunch, I’m still getting my toes wet. My first exploration was with the Mesa Verde Quesadilla: fresh guacamole, chopped kale and spinach smothered in melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese. It tasted pretty good, especially after giving it a good dose of El Yucateco green hot sauce. But I was definitely a little weirded out by the texture of the«I’m-not-really-cheese» cheese. Today I had something that was more familiar to me – a Lentil Walnut burger. Topped with organic greens, tomatoes, avocado, onions, veganaise, sprouts and special sauce, all piled high on a toasted multi-grain bun, this was a definite winner. On a side note, I will admit that I am both embarrassed and ashamed to have my name associated with anything called«veganaise,» but I’m just gonna have to own it for now. The burger portion was huge, and also included organic blue corn tortilla chips with a side of freshly made salsa. I almost couldn’t finish it.(But I did, because I knew I’d be hungry later if I didn’t. Unlike red meat, my body seems to metabolize this kind of food rather quickly.) My colleague ordered the Zen Garden Tempeh Steak Sandwich. From the menu: A whole grain hero packed with thinly sliced organic tempeh steak, marinated and griddled with seasoned organic brown rice flour, which is then layered over marinated chopped kale, and topped with a salad of mixed fermented vegetables. He said it tasted like a veggie burger. The first lunch was ordered through GrubHub and took less than an hour to arrive at my door. Today’s lunch was a dine-in affair. As other reviewers have said, don’t come here and be in a rush. This place is laid back. Like California duuuuude-style laid back. It was a solid 90 minutes to get in and out. As other reviewers have also said, this place is hella expensive. My morning juice, banana, and apple cost $ 12.00. That adds up pretty quickly if you go in daily. Lunch will set you back over $ 20 per person, unless you skip the juice or smoothie and just opt for some free water.(Served at the table.) But everything is indeed fresh and organic, and I know that doesn’t come cheap.(Especially given how much money I see my friends spending when they shop for the same type of produce at those local Whole Paycheck supermarkets.) It’s all worth it, though. At least so far. We’ll see in the coming weeks if I can really sustain all this hippy-dippy stuff. If I do, maybe I’ll change my name to Christofurky.
