Go to Ken!!! He’s been my guy for awhile now. He never disappoints. He’s personable and really is great at what he does. I’ve gotten my hair cut and hair dyed from him and I’ve always gotten compliments. I have really thick hair and he does a great job at thinning it out. He’s very thorough and meticulous and you can tell he takes his time.
The place is trendy and chic. You can’t go wrong with the price for its location either. I paid $ 60 for a cut including gratuity. Def worth more than my $ 60 that’s for sure.

After many bad haircuts, I found Win (co-​owner) and has been cutting my hair since 94. Her and her brother Ken have taken turns cutting my hair. I’ve colored, highlighted, ombré and have gone long, short and in between all with amazing New York style results for a fraction of the price. Win can transform any photo I show her into an incredible workable version according to the type of hair you have. At times when I just wanted her to take charge she’s done it and it still comes out fresh and unique. If my years of loyalty to this place is not enough to convince you, try it for yourself. No disappointing results and top notch service.

I have been going to studio 17 since for 15 years (before they moved to their most recent location!) and I could not even fathom going to another place! Wynn has being doing my hair and eyebrows flawlessly every time! I have very thick hair and she knows how to thin it and texturize it without over doing and always achieving the look I ask for. I highly recommend this place for those with thick hair.

I’ve gotten several haircuts here, with Ken, Anna, and Cindy. I have thick Asian hair, and always ask for layers and thinning — this salon is reliable for both those things, and is run very professionally. Yes, they straighten your hair thoroughly while cutting and styling, but the cuts are precise and grow out well.

I want to update this review and state that, while I was not pleased with my haircut for the first month, every month after my hair has grown out beautifully. So much so, that I get a compliment at least once a day. I just wish that that first month didn’t have to be awkward like a bad first date.

I was looking for a hairstylist about two years ago and made an appointment at Studio 17. ANA was available and she is the BEST! Ever since then I only request for her! She is very knowledgeable about haircuts and has a great memory. After my second visit, I didn’t have to remind her how I like my hair cut. She has given me great advice on my hair and I have received many compliments even when I asked her I wanted to do highlights! She always let me know when she will be on vacation. I would know trade her for any other hairstylists! She is simply GREAT!!!

Cindy is the best! She will remember you and she makes great conversation. But you really can’t go wrong with anyone here. They are all very talented and friendly.
You can either go knowing what you want and get exactly that or go in and try something new and they will work wonders.

Hair cut is good but not great. Felt hair cut is a little too wispy and thinned out, like the edges to be more blunt. Not sure if that makes sense… but they do a good job and price point is good.

I like it, but I don’t love it. I got a cut here for the first time about 3 months ago. Unfortunately I cannot recall the stylist’s name, but she gave a solid cut. I asked for a trim, I got one, and I liked it well enough. My only complaint is that when the cut was over, the stylist blow dried my hair, and when it wasn’t getting perfectly straight, she flat ironed it. I dunno, that’s my M.O. when I want straight hair, but I’m not a professional. When I go to the salon, I expect a quality blowout. But like I said, I liked the cut well enough, and I’d probably go back as their prices are a little more reasonable than a lot of other places in the area.
My husband is a regular though, and they always do a good job on him, if that helps any of the guys out there though!

I really love this place. I’ve gone to Ken, Wynn and Anna and have never been disappointed. Great quality haircuts and colors for a fraction of city prices. I’m terrible at describing what kind of cut/​style I like, but they are experts and know what would look best! Walk-​ins are very welcome. I just walked in for a quick bang trim and was done in less than 8 minutes. Been going here for years and sometimes I stray to give other salons a try, but in the end, I always come back.

Desperately needing a new look for the long thick crazy hair I have, a friend recommended this place to me. NO REGRETS COMING HERE. Upon walking in I was introduced to Ken right away and he transformed me into a stylish, modern chick. He’s a great listener, explains what he plans to do with your hair and does his magic. Very nice guy and really loves what he does. I would recommend to anyone… salon is clean, staff is courteous, and they all know what they’re doing! A+++

I get my hair cut by Cindy, who is amazing. I try not to wash it as long as possible, because she really does a great styling, which lasts for days. She’s fun to talk to and very professional. Once in a while I’ll see someone I know with a great haircut, and I guess they go to Cindy and more often than not, I’m correct.
The salon is very bright and has tons of windows with good street views, so it’s a nice place to sit. I also get my children’s hair cut there sometimes, and they do a great job – quick, good quality and reasonbly priced.

Booked a 1pm sat appt. with Cindy for a wash, cut and blow dry. First impressions are everything especially when it comes to a female’s locks. Cindy exceeded my 5 star rating! We shared similar interests and kept conversation through the whole beautifying experience. She gave awesome advice and guaranteed on helping me achieve healthier hair especially after all my previous years of highlights. No more dead ends!

Once you walk in, you know you will walk out looking and feeling fabulous !!!
Nguyet is a true artist ! I made a appointment with Nguyet to correct an awful previous color & cut (from another salon). After my experience with Nguyet, my problem which I thought was beyond helpless was corrected. My hair color and cut never looked so incredible !
There is not a need to look any further, this is the salon to go too. Thank you Nguyet for making me a beautiful woman !

Went in on a Thursday afternoon hoping to leave with a hair cut. The lady at the desk, Anna, offered to take me right away but that she had an appointment coming in so she would have to pause in between to take care of that client. Very understandable but I decided to just make an appointment for the next day. Another stylist, Cindy, came out and wrote down my appointment for me in the book.
The next day, I came in for my appointment. They took me at the exact time my appointment was set. No unnecessary waiting. Cindy was my hair stylist who was able to remember my name and made very good conversation. A storm was coming in the last 20 min of my seating therefore Cindy asked if I had an umbrella. I didn’t and she very kindly gave me an extra so my hair would not be ruined. I will definitely be coming back and im so glad I finally found a salon that actually satisfied my liking for my hair! I highly recommend.

I had heard good things about Studio 17 and had to go downtown today so I stopped in for a badly needed cut on my way back home. I was a walk-​in with no appointment, so I had to wait about 45 minutes, but that’s what you get when you don’t have an appointment, lol. I would have made one except I couldn’t remember the name of this place for the life of me. I just remembered approximately where it was and that a couple of people had told me they were pretty good here.
It began with a misunderstanding at the desk; I said I needed a cut and asked if they had someone there who can work with people with hair loss (I have a spot on my scalp with very thin hair and need someone with the expertise level to deal with this, as in someone who can cut hair to accentuate the other parts and disguise that part) which managed to get repeated to another staff member as I was looking for something to treat hair loss — I was told that they had no one who could do this and I should probably use a special shampoo or something. Well, from the work I was seeing two or three of the stylists doing, it sure looked like they really knew their stuff so I re-​explained myself to a third person. The desk girl was very nice, but seriously, I should have to go through three people to get matched with a stylist who can work with someone with a problem spot???
Anyway, I was matched with Cindy, who was fabulous. I told her what steps I usually take on my own, how short I was willing to go and all that. She suggested a cut and demonstrated what and where she was going to cut and the effect she expected it to have. I could really tell she knew what she was doing and felt completely comfortable with her. I didn’t feel self-​conscious at all. The cut was a bit more mod than my usual styles, but it looks great, is manageable and is something that I can recreate myself at home. Cindy demonstrated for me.
I’m really happy with the job Cindy did. Like someone else mentioned, she has a really great attitude and vibe.
The price was neighborhood price, not NYC price. $ 45 for a wash, cut and blow dry. I have shoulder length hair if that makes a difference in their pricing.
Definitely going back!

I’ve been going to this salon for over a year. The salon is clean and has pleasant atmosphere. My favorite hair dresser is Cindy. Amazing blow out and hair styles. She also cuts my hair. Cindy has a great attitude, energy and is a talented artist.
TIP: They don’t allow you to add tip to the CC so bring cash if you want to tip your hair dresser.

This place is a great and comfortable salon in downtown Jersey City. I got a haircut, which felt more like a consultation, from Cindy and it felt like she shared my vision of what I wanted my hair to look like. I’ve been trying to grow it out since I typically get a barbershop tight fade. Cindy explained how she would cut my hair and delivered on it. I was a walk-​in, however they treat everyone like they’ve been long time customers. I’ll be returning soon.
