Real Italian feel. Everyone is friendly. Other reviewers were right about the mozzarella. I got the pavonia and it was fantastic. Even the bread was delicious.

Wow. I wish I discovered this place sooner. We ordered the chicken parm and roast beef with provolone(The Tonnele). Both were absolutely divine and the bread was so fresh! This place is clean and spacious, so make sure to dine in.

3.25 stars rounded up to four, which is an average between 2.5 stars for catering and four stars for lunch. Despite living within walking distance of this deli and its adjoining restaurant, I never even knew it existed until friends of mine informed me that they would order catering trays from here frequently. On a Friday afternoon, I ordered both lunch and catering for the following Sunday evening. For lunch, I purchased one of the specials of the day including chicken and sausage on top of penne for $ 9. While a bit pricey, I was pleasantly surprised that the taste was quite respectable for food sitting on a buffet line. The portion was enough for me to be pleasantly stuffed as well. I am looking forward to trying out their sandwiches the next time I am able to visit this establishment. That Sunday, we unfortunately had less luck with the catered trays. The pork loin pizziola was quite dry due to the pork being overdone. In addition, the chicken marsala was a bit bland for our tastes. However, the pasta amatriciana, essentially penne with onions and a bit of bacon in red sauce, mostly got thumbs up from our group. The primary reason, however, for me to round up to four stars is not because I’m being generous, but because of the world class service. For instance, the manager was honest with me and highly recommended that we not order calamari due to it getting soggy in transit. Service was also with a smile on the hot buffet line, with the person behind the counter alerting me to grab the manager before his return to the main restaurant. Apparently, he occasionally makes the time to chat with customers, presumably regulars, in the seating area of the deli.

I’ve been twice. Both times were good. I’ve ordered a hot meal(chicken parmigiana and pasta) and a hot sandwich(The Danforth). Both were good. Wasn’t THE best but it’s also not bad at all. I’d love to come back soon. AND there’s parking. That’s also a plus. A lot of tradition and people that have lived in the neighborhood forever. Regular customer for life.

Everything is excellent here. full Italian deli that’s pretty big & stocked w/everything you can think of. My fav is to go during lunchtime for the hot lunch specials. For under $ 10 you can make a plate of whatever they’re making that day– usually you pick a meat, pasta & side.

Located in the an area where several Italians resided decades ago it’s good to see their cultural still lies in the neighborhood. I love coming here even if its a quick bite to-go or to have lunch in their patio. Not many know where this place is because it’s tucked behind Puccini’s in a dead end block. There’s always parking available and hot entrees ready to be served. Cold/hot sandwiches available to be made. Several imported Italian snacks ready to bought! Big Italian food lovers this is my hidden gem from me to you!

Eating my food as I write. Our office in Journal Square order delivery from this deli at least once a week, and today we tried catering style for the first time due to an important office meeting(20 people). Spoke with Alex, who was super accommodating, but everyone at the deli is always super friendly. FOOD was EXCELLENT. PASTAWITHVODKASAUCE. CHICKENPARM. THEBREAD. Now let me emphasize how accommodating they were for our catering order. We called at 9:30am and requested deliver for 12pm the same day. Alex was amazingly nice, easy going, and helped me figure out exactly what portions and items to get so the entire group would be pleased and full. They packaged everything separately and labeled as requested, and did not skimp on any of the meal servings(napkins, utensils, dressings, cheese, serving spoons, etc.). I was impressed, my team was impressed, our boss was impressed. Good job, Salumeria Ercolano, you are now our go-to caterer, ALWAYS.

Ordered the JFK which was incredible. I ordered the larger size sandwich and a ¼lb of macaroni salad. It came to about $ 19 but it fed me 2 separate occasions — and I eat A LOT. Place was very clean but empty. Service was prompt and while not super outgoing or personable they took time to craft an incredibly authentic Italian sandwich. It’s not too far from my apartment which is nice but if I weren’t in the area already, I wouldn’t go too far to get it again. Lucky for me, I’ll be back in probably a month for another sub or possibly an entrée.

Excellent authentic Italian deli in Jersey City! As soon as you walk inside, you realize this isn’t just any old deli. They’ve done a great job with the ambiance of this place which let’s you feel like you’ve escaped JC and walked into an Italian Marketplace.(Pics below) There is ample open seating. The place opens early enough for brunch and lunch. They accept credit cards. There is free parking out front on the dead end street and in the adjoining Puccini’s lot. The food is excellent. We had 2 of their local inspired sandwiches. We will definitely return to try more in the near future. Sandwiches are named for classic sections of Jersey City—«The WestSide, JFK, Bergen, Tonnele, Montgomery, Grove, Danforth, Broadway» and so on.(See pic)

Wow. I am SOGLAD I don’t live near this spot. If I did, I’d be 300 lbs and go broke eating here every meal! It’s amazing! I wish they would open up a location downtown. I think it would do fabulously. The meats, cheeses and breads were oh so fresh. They even had an adorable little bar in the back. The staff was beyond friendly and very patient with my weird ordering tendencies. Hey owners — there are retail spots available in Crystal point and Trump! Just sayin! ;)

My newest obsession that will kill me :) This place is nothing short of amazing. And again, this comes from the girl who can’t eat carbs or fat because the lack of it for the past 15 years of my life. This is a place that makes eating carbs and fats all worth it. No more peeling off the bread cause I can’t have it. I CANHAVEIT! Well, I can’t, but I will. We had the Broadway and JFK sandwiches. I still dream about this place. I still dream about these sandwiches and I count the days that I can get out of work early enough or wake up early enough to come here and eat. The meats are so deliciously salty and fatty. The bread is crusty, but chewy on the inside. Nom nom nomm — droollllll. Don’t even get me started on the homemade mutz… there’s really nothing else to say about that. I personally liked the Broadway sandwich better than the JFK, but they were both damn good. I was really sad that they didn’t have broccoli rabe that day because the prices of broccoli rabe have risen drastically, but you know… it gives me a reason to go back again and again until I’m able to get my chubby hands on that sandwich. I also have to go back to try some of the hot foods. You know this place is good when some little old Italian ladies are saying how good the food is…

I think I just found the Italian deli of my dreams and shoot me now, it’s walking distance from my home. It’s location makes it more amazing. It’s at the tip of West Side Ave, a dead end street after Broadway, next to the PATH tracks. There it lays like a little piece of deli heaven. When you enter, the space is from a Soprano’s episode. High ceilings, spacious areas to sit. Manager’s office on the left. Pick up a menu and specials on the right hand area. Sandwiches and panini named after local streets. Choosing is the hardest part. On this cold morning, I wanted a hot sandwich but they didn’t have bread. I ordered the medium Tonnele. Fresh ingredients, tender bread, cheese stinky(good thing), just enough mayo. It’s worth more than $ 8. Service was great. I beg you to visit this place whenever you are in the area.

The characters eatin up in here look straight-up outta Goodfellas and Casino. Old Italian dudes, speakin Italian and staring at me(cuz I ain’t). The Bergen and the Glenwood(JC west-side streets) sandwiches are my faves… gigantic and full of meats/cheeses. They have a hot meal side and a cold meal side in the resto, and tons of daily specials. AND…you can get peroni and/or wine($ 4.00) to enjoy with your deeeelish eats. Yuppies, stay away.

This spot really is hidden, if it wasn’t for Unilocal I probably would never have discovered it. The food is pretty good I have no complaints. I got a hot pastrami sub and a cannoli and they were both delicious. Will def be back for some more…

Wow. What a nice looking Italian deli. It’s located on the dead end behind Puccini’s restaurant. I remember hearing about this place opening but never came by to try it. I went in today and felt like a regular. Everyone was very friendly. The place looks like it’s owned by the Puccini restaurant people, the guy behind the counter had a Puccini chef jacket on… kind of gave it away. It is a large space with a lot of tables for eat-in. It looks as if they serve liquor, or at least beer and wine. They had hot specials and a full deli. They also had an assortment of olives and prepared items. I had the grilled sausage with broccoli Rabe and pasta with peas on the side. It came with a piece of Italian bread. I also bought a soda. Total= 9.75. A little pricier then some delis, but the quality factor was high. Definitely want to go back for more when I am back in the area.
