Lmfao what a joke, can’t even call this place a business. Their proximity to many business offices is the reason why they’re still operating, otherwise they’d be shuttered by now. Food: terrible, where are all these rave reviews coming from? I even added the spicy sauce to my sandwich and still nope, nothing extraordinary. The chicken tasted like rubber. Payment: the women at the counter are perhaps the number one reason why I hate this place. I paid 13 for a sandwich that a woman in front of me paid 10 for. Huh??? PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE take your business elsewhere. Don’t support this business because you might think the mediocre food is good. This place needs to be shutdown ASAP.

This is a great classic Italian deli. No frills — just excellent high quality food. I’ve gone here a enough times to know the food is consistent. Everything looks good, everything smells good, and they have a wide variety of hot and cold foods. As far as service goes, I’ve read some negative reviews and I disagree. The people here are efficient and knowledgeable — they just do not pamper you. If you’re some needy ass customer who wants all the attention in the world maybe you should stay away from crowded Italian deli’s around lunch time. Also, if you’re holding up the very long line fumbling through your slow thoughts while you should be ordering, people probably will be rude to you, and you’ll deserve it. I’d highly recommend this place to friends if they are in the area.

Horrible customer service. They have no idea how to take care of their customer’s. They are very lazy and seem as though we are doing them the favor by eating there. Horrible.

I was in total shock how one of the female owners acts towards some customers! I went today to check their food, to find nothing out of the ordinary. Same type of food you would find in any kind of deli. Nothing special. What stuck me the most is the fact that I was charged $ 1 for a SINGLEAWFUL garlic knot, that they were giving out for free!!! As I entered Milanos, there was a basket of garlic knots given as a sampler. SO I grabbed one and ate it, proceeded to order. Nothing caught my eye. so I decided to leave. The lady owner threw a fit. She ordered me with a nasty tone of voice to pay $ 1 for a single garlic knot. She said it s only free if I purchase an item??? So I grabbed a bottle of water and came to pay, but she said water is not enough, and that she would charge me for the water and garlic knot. she said I had to buy a sandwich. is this good clientele relationiship??? Never again!!!

Rude ladies at the counter. Charges different amount for the same food that I’ve been getting!!! Maybe you should have prices on your menu posted on the board!!!

Small place, huge lunch business. They move fast, expect a ‘soup nazi’ type of ordering atmosphere. One second pause and everyone will look at you funny, including other regular customers. The portions are huge for the price and the food is pretty good. There are a good amount of tables to fit the lunch crowd that wants to eat in, most people are doing take out. Worth checking out for a quick sandwich for lunch.

Great Italian deli. If you go for lunch, know what you want to order before it’s your turn or you will feel like your holding up everyone behind you. I’m a fan of the chicken cutlet, hot pepper and mozz. hero. There’s only one lady who has all the food prices in her head so remember what you pay if your a regular incase she forgets what she charged you last time. There’s no menu with pricing(at least none that I’ve seen). I highly recommend this place.

When I started working in the area a few months ago, I was hoping that I wouldn’t like this place. It’s not the healthiest of lunches, and it’s a little more than I wanted to spend routinely. But I’ve been eating from here a few times a week ever since. The value is fair, if not a screaming bargain. Your food’s actual price is saved for the very end, quoted to you at the register with only some consistency. My regular dish is priced anywhere from $ 10 to $ 12 on any given day. I think the adjustment depends on the type of accompanying pasta(which varies) though I admit I haven’t yet completely figured out the ladies’ rubric(if there is one). $ 10 minimum on credit cards, but I pay cash. The staff can only be described as efficient. You shouldn’t expect a smile or hello; nor should you expect to wait long on any of the lines. Strictly business, and they do it well. I always take out, but there are some self-serve tables. They seem very full during prime lunch times and quickly empty for the off hours. Oh, the food! I haven’t tried anything other than the chicken parmigiana platter. I haven’t wanted to. It’s quite good and plentiful — enough to save half for tomorrow’s lunch if I display any modicum of restraint. Maybe someday I’ll try one of the sandwiches for which, it seems, they are best known. Sometimes, just past the register, the restaurant puts out a platter of small garlic knots or, less frequently, bruschetta. These are so good that, at the risk of being ridiculed and exiled, I have scarfed down two on my way out.

No thanks. Just watched the woman behind the counter blowing her nose into a napkin, then throw it out and cough profusely into her hands, then make coffee without skipping a beat or washing her hands… YUCK! No wonder they were closed down already by the health inspector!

I was in the area on a work assignment and decided to check this place out. When I walked in it was jam packed at least 30 people in the store. The store itself was small with a few tables to dine in. However, I decided to take the food back to the office. Granted I came in during lunch so it wasn’t a surprise it was packed. There is no table service because you order, get your food, pay then, sit down and eat your food. No tips involved which is nice. The workers got the line moving quickly so that was good. I ordered the special of the day which was a chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, romaine lettuce with balsamic dressing on a sub roll. It was a huge portion which two people could eat but I ate the whole thing. Sandwiches doesn’t really taste good the following day. It was decent size that tasted good. Just keep in mind there is no parking and you have to find off street parking. This place doesn’t write prices on specials so they can charge you what they want which I did not like at all. Overall, nice small deli with a variety of sandwiches and entrees.

Oh Milanos ! This is my favorite deli and I come here for lunch regularly(take out because the space is very small)… I get what other reviewers are saying by the cranky old ladies behind the counter, but idk I think its kind of funny. You have to understand the flow here otherwise the chaos can seem a little unorganized. They have three lines 1. for hot food 2. one for cold food(ex. cold cut subs) 3. My favorite hot sandwich’s are Chicken Bruschetta and spicy meatball parm, my favorite cold subs are the prosciutto de parma and Italian combo. These sandwiches are really incredible and BIG !! The chicken bruschetta is a bit messy and needs to be double bagged when carrying it, but its worth it. I will continue my business here because I’m a bit addicted !(Love the garlic knot samples they give after your purchase)

I have been here 3 or 4 times. They make great food, but the service isn’t good. It’s not just that it isn’t like the big chains, it’s actually just pretty unorganized. The menu was scrawled in sloppy handwriting on various boards around the counter, and it’s clear that there is more to order than what they have listed. People were standing around not totally sure when their order would be taken. The cashier didn’t know how much things cost, and needed to wait for another person to come around and tell her the price of each item. She didn’t tell me this in advance, and just stood there staring at me blankly until I got awkward and asked if I could pay. I don’t think I’m going to come here anymore. With so much available to order online, and plenty of other places to walk for lunch in the area, it just isn’t worth this kind of sloppiness. For the sake of good Italian food, I hope the managers can get it together.

Had the chicken arugula sandwich and was blown away. The place was full of professionals and construction workers meaning it is good. I am going to try to upload a photo of this beast. It’s a shame I work in manhattan, because I would seriously consider taking the ferry back and forth for this place.

I wanted to like this place. My husband came here years ago when working on the waterfront and raved about it then. The guys making the sandwiches were great but the two women behind the counter not so much. If you hate life so much how about you ladies go somewhere else? I was charged an extra .50 cents compared to the guy in front who got the same size sandwich. Really? I didn’t even have the energy to argue today. What’s the point? I hope others will take the word from customers who have had a similar experience. The food was just as bad as the attitudes in the deli. I LOVE chicken parm sandwiches. It’s the first thing I get at pizzerias, delis, bakeries, and Italian restaurants that even have them on the menu. I’m a Jersey girl so I know my chicken parms and this was the worst I’ve had. The chicken was smashed so thin the meat became tough and difficult to chew. I didn’t even want to give the meat to my dog! I know that’s how you make a chicken cutlet but this was beaten to death. The bread was surprisingly bad as well, too soft and no crunch on the outside. The mozzarella was basic. The only positive about the sandwich was the sauce, unfortunately, there was barely any of it. I definitely won’t be coming back to Milano’s in the future.

Inconsistent, unsanitary and arbitrary prices… It is the only place that changes prices not only daily but between people who order together by cashier and order taker. One guy can pay $ 6.50 for a sub and then someone else that same day will pay over $ 7 for the same sandwich. Don’t ask for clarification unless you want the distinct impression that they are screwing with your food. It’s also not the cleanest place. The women cashiers are extremely rude, their success is due to no real lack of competition rather than good food. Seriously, how hard is it to actually determine your prices, even if on a daily basis. I have stopped going after being charged 8 different amounts for the same sandwich in a two week period and them giving really bad attitudes when asking for clarification. ETA — It appears that today, Aug 4th2015 they were closed by Health Inspectors which is ironic and poetic.

Food: 4⁄5 Stars Service: 3 Stars I’ll start with the good; the sandwiches are fresh, authentic and huge. They have a lot of flavor in em but can get messy at the same time. I ordered the sausage parmigiana and it was quite tasty and very filling for a lunch. Now the reservations, the cashiers are quite slow and rude. They don’t take credit cards under $ 10. The place is very darkly lit and the refrigerated section doesn’t look very fresh. Table seating is very limited, the chairs and tables look very dilapidated. The reason I pushed this to a four star rating is because they also gave free garlic dough bites(?) at the end of the line and they were so tasty. Otherwise, this would probably be a 3 star in my book.

Great lunch option when I worked in JC. Do not be discouraged by the lines. There are 2; a hot and cold line. The cold line obviously goes faster. You can honestly pick anything off the menu and be more than satisfied. Ginormous sandwiches that are enough for your lunch and dinner… or afternoon snack! I’ve enjoyed the tuna sandwich and the italian sub. The bread is pretty substantial so don’t be shy to add some oil and vinegar if that’s what you like. Definitely add this to your lunch mix in Jersey City.
