Mane Source

I couldn’t tell you how they cut hair because I never even made it onto a chair! I was recommended to Melanie and made an appointment with her directly over the phone. When I arrived for my appointment, I was ignored for half an hour. I sat down in the waiting area and tried to wait patiently as she finished her current customer because I needed the haircut to attend a surprise engagement. When she finished her customer, she immediately took another customer who sat on the chair before I can even make a move. Throughout the whole experience, she never once looked up to see if her appointment had come in. Being on a tight schedule, I decided to walk out totally frustrated at the absolute lack of customer service here. Had I waited, I’m sure my wait would’ve more than doubled (as was experienced by a previous Unilocal Reviewer, Rocco N on 04/​01/​2015).
I’ve noticed that many barbershops in the area, like Mane Source, offer appointments. Regrettably, none actually know HOW to keep them. The owners of this establishment need to understand that they are not just cutting hair but are running a business. I’m sure this place cuts hair just fine (as there were enough guys there for cuts), but as to running a solid customer-​driven business, this place has a ways to go. Suffice it to say, never going here again no matter how good their barbers may have been (although now I’m comfortably saying I wouldn’t care to find out!)
On a positive note, I will say that the atmosphere in this place was very calm and relaxed. Some barbershops have a very urban feel with crass jokes and vulgarities flying from left to right. This place seemed very chill. Unfortunately, I came to this place for good service, not a good time in a waiting chair, so overall I’m not sure that the atmosphere wins this place any real points.

Hands down. Place to go to get the right cut. You name it, they can do it. From fades to tapers to line ups to even designs. The guys here are welcoming and fun to talk to. It was hard to find the right barber when I moved out to JC. Had to find one similar to the one I had back home in LA. This place is similar (if not better). Nonetheless, awesome place and never disappoints — wish I could’ve found this place sooner.

Totally unprofessional place. Walked in to get a hair cut and was ignored for over an hour until I just walked out. Seems like more of a hangout than a place of business. Wouldn’t recommend this dump to my worst enemy.

There is no shortage of talent here. I’ve been going to Mane Source for a long time. My barber Gex is the man. Most of the time I just have to sit down, I say the usual, and he gets to work. I already know how my cut is going to turn out. I highly suggest making an appointment though. If you are new, establish a relationship with one of the barbers and get their number so you can make one. Always a good time at Mane Source.

Coming to this barber after finding out my barber moved here I was a bit skeptical. Once I opened the doors to this fine establishment I was happy that my barber moved to a shop with true barbers. The atmosphere is that of your cool barber shops jokes, music, sports are amongst the topics of conversation, most importantly I didn’t feel uncomfortable like a have at other shops but Mane source offers the right balance of talent and ambiance to the barber shops environment. I highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area for a fresh cut!

I just moved to the area and I was looking for a barber shop that can cut African American hair. I read a review here on Unilocal that said that Mane Source did a great job. So I called them to ask what time they closed. It was a 6:45 pm and they said they closed at 7:00 pm. The owner still asked me if I wanted to come in. I told him that it would take me 15 to 20 minutes to get there and he told me that that was fine and to come in. I got there at 10 after 7:00 and they took me right away.
A barber named David took me in, sat me down and asked what I would like done. I hadn’t found a barber in the area since I had been here, so my hair was way overgrown. I told him just needed a short cut fade. He did an amazing job. He took his time and didn’t rush through the cut, even at that late hour. The fade he gave me looks great and I left the chair very happy. The cut cost me $ 17 which was a bargain.
I would definitely recommend Main Source as they are now my new barber shop in Jersey City! Great job and great customer service!!!

Mane Source is a great barbershop located right across the street from Christ Hospital in Jersey City.
I moved to the area 3 years ago, needed a haircut, but it’s always tough to find a new barber so I waited awhile and did some research before venturing out. After a few bad cuts, I found Mane Source and was taken in by a barber named Gex who took me as a walk-​in.
The barbers are all really skilled and have their specialties. If you’re looking for a fade, tape up, design shaved into your head, then you’ve come to the right place.
