Great ambiance. Great bar tenders. No food on Sunday but still a great place. Decent prices too.

I knew letting those Jersey Shore half-wit Z-listers into this spot would be a detriment. There was a mexican band playing right outside this spot during last Friday’s Cuatro De Mayo celebration and the interior looked gutted. So I asked the JerZ Unilocal CM(who I was chillin with at the Unilocal table) what’s up with this business. She said it was closed. Fuckin CLOSED. Now where am I gonna bring mah fresh-ta-def hotties that love delighful wines and dark romantic spots? Sux, since there really is no other spot like this in all of JC.

Bar majestic has gone Peruvian. If Machu Picchu is not within your budget, well then hike on over to Bar majestic. No jungle crawling with snakes or guerillas with uzis… bonus! The place is built in into the lobby of an old theater, not coincifdentally, The Majestic Theater. The rest of the building went to the dark side and is now condos. The place is well designed both visually and aurally. In accordance with the Peruvian flair of the food, the music was South American /Afro-Carribean jazz mix which complemented the Fried Yucca in huancaina sauce. What is huancaina sauce? The world may never truly know, but it is a tasty, tasty treat. The menu is well priced and the food delivers, however, it is limited. If one looks closely, one will note that the entirety of the menu is a clever deception based in the devious reappropriation of three fundamental dishes. While all divine, after browsing the menu for a bit I began to think… wait a minute here… hey pretty sneaky sis! The Pisco Sours and Chocolate martinis are delish but, like all the cocktails, pricy. A good place for a sassy cocktail, but not a place to get loaded in unless you’re loaded. Wait… huh? Anyhoo… don’t walk, stroll to Bar Majestic. The food might not appeal to everyone’s palate given it’s sub-equatorial essence, but it is very well prepared and definitely worth a sampling.

The location is perfect. The layout, design and spirit of the place is perfect. The music selection is DOPE!(Think Buena Vista Social Club). There hard liquor selection is solid. Very interested to try the food on my next visit. My only complaint was that the drinks to a really long time to get. And they don’t have my favorite beer NJ Beer Co.

I’ve been here twice, once in September of 2010(first date with my bf) and once just a couple of weeks ago. I have to say I LOVE the ambiance and REALLY hope they don’t change much inside when they do whatever remodeling I have read is coming soon. If I had rated it last year, I would’ve given at least 4 stars. I loved my wine(Blufeld Riesling, which they don’t have any more at the bar but I have managed to hunt down for home), and whatever mixed drink I had was delicious. This time around, the vibe was good, but I agree with others who weren’t thrilled with the service. I ordered a cocktail that I can’t remember precisely, but consisted of something like vodka, lemonade(or lemon vodka), muddled strawberries, ginger, and brown sugar. The point was it basically was like an alcoholic ginger-strawberry lemonade, and I really don’t like ginger in beverages other than ginger ale. It took a LOT of negotiating with the server to get the drink sans ginger. I told him I didn’t like ginger and I just wanted to taste the strawberry/lemon, and he suggested other drinks because without ginger, this one wouldn’t taste the same(that was the point…). The drink was pretty good, once I got it, though the muddled strawberries were pretty giant and it was hard to drink/eat them. We got the free«Peruvian popcorn» which was sort of like warm, giant corn nuts. They were good, but I didn’t like anything I saw on the new menu. A little too exotic for me. I think the only thing I would try would be beans and rice, and I don’t usually go to a wine/cocktail bar to get beans and rice. Hopefully, they will expand the menu and won’t only have upscale Peruvian food.

Terrible service, boring place. Watched a friend wait 40 minutes, I checked my watch, for a drink when there were all of ten people in the entire place. After that I left, maybe the service got better once I’d left…

We used to frequent this place a lot, we called it our«Home Bar». They changed the menu recently. There aren’t many food items on the menu, we didn’t really like the stuff we tried. The ambience is cozy.

Chill atmosphere. Cozy seating. Dark lighting(love!) BUT very limited menu. I had the Turkey Breast Panini and Pineapple juice, both were yummy. The server was nice and attentive(or maybe she was checking out my guy friend. He is the looker) But what won me over you ask? The music. They played Ibrahim Ferrer & Buena Vista Social Club. I melted.

Went on a Saturday night for drinks only. Strange vibe resulting from the dissonance of the aspirations to hipness, giant sports TVs, expensive drinks, distracted bartender, and poorly-mixed cocktails. Maybe it’s better to go for wine and food. I guess I’d be willing to give it another try. Maybe it was an off night?

Wine bar with outdoor seating, sensible live music, and small plates. A go-to source for girls night out, or check in here late night when the pace picks up a bit. Booth seating keeps things cozy, the front of the house is very cool with bar tables parallel to the front windows. Cool architecture and lighting round out the unique décor. Quick tip: Stop in and pick up an unopened bottle to bring home for your own night in.

Bar Majestic is my kinda scene, especially when I want to get cozy on a date in a nice, chill atmosphere with food that’s meant for sharing. A booth in the back, a healthy helping of tapas, and cocktails are all in order. I usually get their bruschetta in a few different varieties, and highly recommend the honey and almond if you have a sweet tooth. They regularly have live music, which adds to the eclectic atmosphere. It’s just the right amount of dark, with thoughtful lighting touches that make it almost magical. It is a bit pricey. I’ve been known to rack up a bar bill pushing $ 100 with some light fare. Even still, there are happy hour specials to enjoy to keep your wallet happy. Hot damn this place is the shit! I came here with a sick living social coupon — 25 for 50 worth of food/drink. I got 3 cheeses and 3 bruschettes, an appletini, a sam adams, 2 paninis, and a cocktail… grand price was 63 but with special only 13. WOW! BUt as for the taste — everything was awesome and really good. They have a really cool atmosphere and play great jazz music. I can’t wait to go here in the summer summer summer time!

Came here on a warm Monday night with my roommates. We moved to the area back in July of last year but this was the first time we stepped foot into the place. The décor inside is very cute and dark and intimate. Because the weather was warm and breezy, we sat outside. The service was great — our waitress and the busboys were attentive and sweet. By the time we had ordered(around 9:30PM), they ran out of a lot of items on the menu, including cheeses, antipasti, tuna, and empanadas. My roommates each tried a glass of the sangria which they loved, said it wasn’t too sweet. I ordered the panini with chorizo, manchego, arugula, and hot sauce and it came with a side of potatoes. The panini and potatoes(especially the potatoes) were very very delicious. My roommate tried the shrimp bisque, which she thought was bland(she kept adding salt and pepper to it). All in all, this place is cute, the service was great, the outdoor seating was nice, and the menu was yummy — and I would definitely come back.

Majestic is a wine bar I wouldn’t expect to find in Jersey City. From the outside, it doesn’t look like very much, but the intimate dim-lit interior makes a nice, inviting setting. My review is more like a 3.5, and would have received much higher if the service was better. In their defense, there was only one waiter that night for every table, and it was a full house. Wine is very good and a nice selection. The food is surprising good. We had a chickpea soup which was delicious but a little heavy on the garlic, two very good paninis and delicious fried Manchego cheese. The chef also sent us out complimentary chocolate mousse. Order a glass of Malbec and the Fried Manchego and enjoy a relaxed and intimate evening in a surprisingly nice Jersey City wine bar.

Every type of food is DRENCHED or fried in oil/butter. Even my friend who loves butter thought it was a bit much. The bread salad was drenched in dressing as well. Positive: Tuesday nights flamenco is pretty cool, the trio who performs are quite the energetic group. Psst: i think they use cheap wine on Tuesday nights for the 10 dollar sangria pitcher.

I love Flamenco, so I was motivated to visit Bar Majestic for their Tuesday, Flamenco Show. The singers were really amazing, I felt as if I was back in Spain. They were from Granada, Spain– a place very close to my heart. We enjoyed the show over a carafe of sangria. The sangria wasn’t as good as I had hoped, a bit weak like punch. Otherwise, I enjoyed the evening and will go back for sure.

Under New Management, the bar is still gorgeous but the new owners got rid of a lot of the personality this place had. Now they are more focused on wine and cheese which is great, but the menu has gotten much more pretentious. The cut-down-to-size beer selection now features uppity expensive beers as well. On the plus side, the staff is much friendlier, the cocktails are amazing, and the crowd is still the same young, hip, cool cats from before. I stopped by Wednesday just before they were closing the bar. The kitchen had long since been closed, so I couldn’t get a taste of the cheese. I stopped by not much earlier the next day, but the Chef remembered me and sent out a complementary plate! Now THAT is good service. I was impressed with his memory and the fruit and cheese plate was delicious – a delicate Manchego with pear slices and blackberry jam.

I love cozy little bars, and this is as cozy as it gets! Went here for drinks and ordered a cheese plate that was delightful. Will be back many, many times, as I live 5 minutes away, which is the perfect distance once the weather gets cold and I don’t feel like dragging my ass into the city!

I came here for a birthday party of a good friend several years ago which was a blast. Unfortunately I could not stay long. The restaurant/bar is within walking distance from the PATH trains. The restaurant/bar is very accomodating to our large party of forty plus which they serve drinks and allow outside food for cakes. They also allowed a belly dancer who sernade the birthday boy which I sadly missed as I was unable to stay long. Price is moderate for drinks. There is no coat check. I rate it four stars as the food portions are small and there were not many choices for cocktails. I’m a cocktail girl who needs her Cosmo, Strawberry Martini’s, Mimosa’s, etc. I was feeling MAJESTIC but not fully enlighten.

A wine bar right in my own neighborhood? And I’m only discovering it now? I. AM. A. LOSER. Wine? Check. Cheese? Check. Olive Oil drizzled Bread? Check. People Watching? Check. Easy to find a table? Check. Next to a Yoga Studio? Check. Well, the last one is not a requirement, but it’s definitely a bonus… especially since I have been looking for a new Yoga Class… Yoga and Wine… You can’t go wrong… And what is this about Board Game Night? Hello! I’m so there!
