This place is pretty legit. Probably the better Chinese restaurant on central Ave. The amount of food they give you is so ridiculous. The spare ribs are yummy and the BBQ flavor is good. I love that they have scallion pancakes. I’ve had numerous items from here and none have ever disappointed. I usually order take out because it’s walking distance from my apartment. They’re usually good with their time estimate. Never had an issue with that. There’s a $ 10CC minimum.

I’m done ordering from here. I noticed that when I ordered for delivery the delivery guy would always round up my price. He’s been doing this for months now. So today when I ordered I asked how much my order was going to be. 13.25. When he came to deliver I asked how much I owed him he tells me 14.00. So I gave him 15.00 and he said what only a dollar tip? And gave me attitude. And I said yes. My bill was 13.25. Not 14.00. The food is ok. I think it used to be better about 5 years ago. I don’t know if they switched chefs or got new owners or new management. But this customer of over 7 years is done! Time to find a new spot.

I’ve been eating from Kay’s Spring Garden for nearly 25 years. I have fond memories eating in the dining area with my parents and siblings or running over to pick up takeout for a lazy dinner at home. This establishment is family-owned and offers solid American Chinese food. Their food is consistent and delicious! My favorite dishes are the sweet and sour chicken, chicken with broccoli, pork fried rice, the grand mariner shrimp, the seafood soup, general tso’s chicken, and the shrimp egg foo young. It’s been awhile since I’ve ordered these following dishes, but they were my go-to dishes in my younger years — beef with broccoli, spare ribs, fried chicken wings, chicken noodle soup, and shrimp lo mein. Usually if you order enough, you get a free soda or veggie spring roll. If ordering on the phone, ask or they’ll just automatically give you whatever is on hand(usually pepsi/coke). I normally pick up to-go orders but when I have received delivery, it didn’t take more than 30 minutes(except for days with inclement weather). My only bad experience with delivery was when he asked me for a larger tip. Otherwise, I haven’t had any issues. Although, I do recommend warning them on the phone if you need change because they sometimes don’t carry much in terms of small bills. On those days, I end up having to over tip the delivery guy. If you’re looking for delicious American Chinese food for a very fair price, this is the place to go. They have a nice dining area with 6 – 8 tables if you want to eat in. Otherwise, they offer solid delivery and take out service.

I’m sad that two one-star reviews have brought this place from where it belongs: a solid four stars. I’ve been ordering from here for a while and it’s always quality Chinese and really good stuff(ok, technically one time they were kind of nasty and impatient for a delivery order, but that’s the beauty of regular interaction– you get over things and you realize everyone makes mistakes). The chicken and broccoli is solid and the fried rice is good. Check them out!

Best Chinese on Central! They are quick and the food is consistent and delicious. I live closer to another place on Central but walk out of my way to get Chinese food from Kay’s.

AVOID this place at all costs. From my experience, I ordered food for 5 people we ate it hot and still, every last one of us got food poisoning. This place should be shut down!

Terrible. Once again I tried a different place because my usual spot(Good Year) is closed on Mondays, and once again I am very disappointed. Besides the fact that it took over 1.5 hours for delivery, the food was semi-warm when it finally arrived. When I asked the delivery guy why it took so long, he tried to ignore me. I asked him if they were busy and he said, «no, not busy» So who knows why on earth it took that long for delivery on a slow night, not even half a mile away? Had the food even been«ok», I probably would’ve let this slide a bit. but the General Tso Chicken(white meat) could only be appetizing to someone who likes to chew on deep fried batter with barely a shred of chicken inside of it. Also, the pork fried rice was mediocre at best. Good thing I didn’t order anything else because if you can’t make these two dishes well, you’re not a good take out chinese restaurant. Sorry. Never again. Menu ripped up and in the trash with most of the order.

My go-to Chinese take-out place in Jersey City Heights. Good food, great prices, quick turnarounds, and very friendly service. Love the steamed pork dumplings and sweet & sour chicken! The combos are an awesome deal.

Food is solid and have never had a bad meal. Interior is standard, but since I always order to go, I wouldn’t say that it matters much. They have excellent pork fried rice and the pricing is nice. My go to takeout spot.

This is it! This is the take out Chinese spot I’ve been looking for. Ordered delivery to Hoboken on a Friday night. Was told delivery would be an hour; food showed up 57 minutes later. The feast: Wonton Egg Drop Soup — broth was a bit thick, but it was seasoned well and full of flavor. The wontons were nice and doughy. This is a solid soup. Egg Roll — low point of the meal. The roll it self was a little too doughy and chewy for my taste. Boneless Ribs — so I ordered the large portion here, and good god, large should be enormous. The portion was a full large soup container; it had to be a pound and a half of meat. Meat was tender and sweet with just a little bit of char. Really good. Fried Pork Dumplings — these were the free item that came with the meal(awesome perk) and these were so juicy that when I took a bite, juices literally squirted out. Solid dumpling. General Tso’s Chicken — crispy and well coated without being soggy or watery. Just enough broccoli to be there, but little enough not to feel ripped off. Very satisfied here. Roast Pork Fried Rice — this is the make or break for me. This made the meal. The rice was nice and brown(not that yellow fried rice crap served elsewhere). Porky, ricey goodness. I’m happy. Roast Pork Lo Mein — not shy on the pork here, and a solid rendition of a staple. Between the very solid food, cheap price($ 37 total for all that before tip), free stuff, and accurate delivery, this is it for me… This is my new place until further notice.

Happy with the chicken soup and house special lo mien. Good pieces of white meat chicken in savory broth with the right balance of salt and spice. The main dish contained delicious sautéed veggies, pork, chicken and shrimp with petite noodles in garlic sauce. All delivered within 30 mins. Glad I have them another try. If the soup noodles were fresher they could have earned a 5 star ratings. Bravo!

Nice place, i have been going there since 3 months and food is nice. Not expensive and always quickly made. Its family owned and the cooks are the Mom and son from what I seen. Pork Fried Rice is great. Gonna check out the other dishes too.

I order from here often and for the past 9 years. It’s not the BEST chinese food I’ve ever had but it is the best in the area and they deliver. The scallion pancakes are delicious when they are delicious but sometimes they arrive overcooked and dry so there isn’t a consistency. Chicken Fried Rice always turns out great. We sometimes order General Tso’s and that’s always good and the stir fries are always good. Glad i checked in though because I’m going to try some of the other dishes people recommend.

With an abundance of Chinese restaurants in Jersey City, Kay’s Spring Garden offers exceptional fast [Chinese] food. Aside from The Sopranos shooting in this location, locals and diners can rave about their crab rangoons and other Chinese food staples most Chinese restaurants don’t usually, or shouldn’t, get wrong. For instance, the sesame chicken is pretty standard but make the order for all white meat chicken. Not saying that makes all the difference in flavor but at least it’s not as bad for you. Avoid the chicken wings and instead order the fried half chicken(wow, contradictory much from the previous«healthier option» statement?)– it’s crisper and juicier. My faves,(sweet&sour chicken, boneless spare ribs) although very standard dishes, are good & satisfy the craving. I would otherwise question your credibility as a respectable Chinese food establishment if dishes such as these are not done well! Order your favorites on the next night you spend in and just try it out.

Great take out and fast delivery. If you feel like a casual dinner at the restaurant, the place is clean and the people are friendly, though I think Chinese is best served at home, on the couch and in front of the TV… with a little OnDemand action. If it is one thing that is hard to find among the array of city Chinese food, it is good fried rice. Most places serve you something yellow, throw in a few bean sprouts and onions and call it fried rice. Arroz chino del barrio. No. This place serves rice that is actually cooked like fried rice should be. Fresh veggies, and egg, my favorite! Most other dishes(of the ones i have) are hearty and tasty and give you that«need to sip a soda stat» reaction. But I think most people get that when eating Chinese, right? At least that’s what I hope for on a take out kinda night… Things I enjoy: steamed shrimp dumplings pork fried rice Chicken and string beans Duck platter Shrimp in Lobster Sauce There are certain things i wouldn’t order from here, like the fried chicken wings(not at all crispy or the boneless spare ribs(dry) but what lacks here, can be found at another local spot(Fortune).

Whew! It’s been awhile folks! So sorry that I have neglected the Unilocal world at such a lengthy period of time, I indeed intend on being around more often! I give this place 5 stars hands down on the shrimp grand mariner… The flavor is unusually inviting yet addicting after just one bite. A true MUST try here guys! Hey, did I mention the Sopranos filmed here as well?
