Jersey City Public Library – Miller Branch

Three stars is kind of a gift, but I hate to speak ill of a public library, even though my experience is pretty meh.
I’ve only been to this location a few times, as I normally go to the main branch downtown, both times were to check out materials. The first time went pretty well. I borrowed a book that was in a closed off section, and they opened it up, I checked it out, bye!
The second time involved requesting a book at a branch further away and some general confusion. I walked straight up to the desk when I walked in, and no one acknowledged me for a minute. Do I look unworthy of visiting your library? Anyway, I give the info, they call the other branch, they say it is available there (I know it was… because I checked online before I came) and then there is this awkward moment of «what the hell am I supposed to do now?» I’ve requested materials be transferred to the main branch before, via telephone, and they call me they will call me when it’s available for pick-​up, usually a few days later, so I assumed that’s what would happen.
Instead she went about her business, and I stood there at the desk and asked if I should be waiting or… and she said it would probably be there on Monday (it was a Friday when I made the request), but that they would call me. Fast forward to Thursday, I still haven’t received a call and I decide to check my account online before I call. The book has been checked out to me since the day I requested it — almost an entire week. I call, I ask if it’s there, she asks for the title, says yes, and I say thank you and then she hangs up on me.
Three stars is a GIFT.
