CLOSED! Wednesday 3÷30÷2016 — went for lunch but the place was closed with a sign in the window saying just that and not much more. Was looking forward to it due to the reviews. I was so disappointed. I had visited their website before heading out — would’ve liked some notification that they are closed until further notice.

I was literally looking for good indian food in jersey city. My first day in the city and i searched for green chutney on Unilocal… I tried green chutney grilled sandwich. It was amazing. It isn’t exactly an Indian restaurant but kind of american Indian restaurant :) And the chai reminded me back of Delhi street chai…

The concept certainly is good but there is not many options for vegetarians. Secondly it’s pricey for the quantity. Ordered the veg sandwich, it’s way too simple and over priced for what it’s worth. Same with quinoa bowl. I have had better for cheap and great taste and quality.

Welcome to the Indian Chipotle, without the E.coli. It has a similar assembly line setup where you start at one end by ordering a wrap(roti or spinach options for $ 9) or a bowl with either a basmati rice($ 10) or organic quinoa($ 11) base. Then you choose your protein(organic chicken or all natural lamb), sauce, and top it off with the wide assortment of vegetarian toppings, sauces, and spices. If you pick a winning combination, you’ll have a great meal. I must have had like 7 – 8 different toppings and sauces in my bowl and my lunch definitely filled me up for the rest of the day. My only recommendation for the restaurant is to list out the different spices and sauces as well as the flavors. Stick it up on the glass guard and it’ll help speed up my decision making process. I ended up following my coworker’s lead of adding a tamarind drizzle(tangy and full flavored) with a yogurt spread sauced above it all and the«magic masala» spice. This was definitely a winning combination for me and I would recommend it for others who like a tang in their food. Unfortunately the magic masala spice was too subtle and I couldn’t pinpoint it in my lunch. I also didn’t know what to look out for… If you don’t want to go that route they have a full kitchen in the back that can make you a variety of sandwiches but I never tried any of that so can’t comment on it. Unfortunately they discontinued my lamb burger($ 11) recently due to a lack of demand but this was the only place in JC I could find that. I completely understand its decision to do so though, it did take 20 minutes to cook the lamb burger. But also I give this place major props for hopping on the all-natural and organic train. Jersey city could use more places like that mindset.

Bleak rain in Jersey City But with each yawning bite of my paneer wrap Things seem a bit better. I know this isn’t a real haiku, and that Greene Chutney Grill isn’t real Indian food. But it *is* fresh, healthy, fast, served by friendly people, and only $ 9.63 for a pretty filling meal. Also very convenient to the Jersey City waterfront/office area. Bottom line: if you’re a hungry office worker near Exchange Place, give it a try.

Tasty and healthy. Had quinoa with chicken, sweet chutney, and a spinach sauce. Greene Chutney Grill is the same concept of a Chipotle’s except with Indian food. The staff were friendly when I mentioned it was my first time there as well. I’m curious to try the lamb with basmati rice next time.

Really fresh and delicious rice bowls. Friendly and helpful staff for newcomers. Huge portions, was able to turn it into two meals. Will definitely be coming back.

Its an Indian chipotle . Portion side is OK but not worth for $ 10.

The opening hrs are a bit of. I came on a Tuesday around early dinner hours only to find the place closed. Returned the next day and claimed my free belly bowl — half chicken, half lamb quinoa bowl with tomato and spinach sauce. I was allowed to choose up to 7 toppings and of course I maxed out — chickpeas, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, corns. Thank goodness I asked for a bag to go or my backpack would had been ruined — «Eco» friendly container allowed the sauce to soak right through. While cleaning, I ended up separating the foods into separate containers(the portion was perfect for two meals)! Taste — I’m a sauce girl so I didn’t mind that my quinoa was soaked. The chicken was cooked better than the lamb — the lamb was way too dry. The 7 toppings — a bit of everything(color, texture, and taste) — somehow it all worked! Overall — I would return to create another tasty combo!

Visited yesterday. We went there after reading some of the reviews and we were not disappointed. The rice bowl with different curries is really tasty. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for indian food with a twist.

Agree with earlier reviewers’ comparisons to Chipotle’s burrito bowl. It’s pretty much the same, but you get to pick curry bases instead of salsas and have an option to get quinoa instead of rice. Ample veggies, dry toppings and sauces to experiment with as well. Portion size is very good for the price and 1 bowl always fills me up. They have a sign on the door and on the register as well about discontinuing the lamb burger and a few other items. Makes me wonder why, but I haven’t enquired.

I literally just got this delivered… and yeah… I’m going to give this place a «meh.» I expected so much more from a place that has been described to me as the«Indian Chipotle.» It was ALRIGHT. Not so spectacular! I don’t recommend getting the quinoa bowl(that’s what I got) but a coworker who ordered with me loved her basmati rice bowl. I guess — don’t try and be healthy when you go to /order from Greene Chutney. Stick with the basics(Indian basics like rice) and you’ll be good!

An entire quinoa bowl with 1 filling, 1 sauce and 7 toppings all for free. How you ask? Belly card. The employees are really friendly and they were more than generous with the servings. My quinoa bowl was so stuffed it was toppling over. If you ever wanted to see what a mash up of chipotle and indian food would be like, Greene Chutney Grill is it. All ingredients are fresh and everything is made on an assembly line, just like chipotle. I really thought I came into an Indian food Chipotle. I got a quinoa bowl with chicken filling, masala sauce and red onions, baby spinach, green peppers, carrots, chickpeas, red peppers and potatoes. Some of the toppings were a bit weird cause they seemed to be more for salads like baby spinach, carrots, onions and peppers. It was a weird mash up for a meal, indian food combining with salad ingredients. Nonetheless it was pretty filling thanks to the big portions. I got a bit thirsty so I ended up getting a masala chai, I liked that the chai flavor wasn’t too overwhelming. This is more of a 3.5 star review since the food didn’t wow me and I don’t think I would’ve paid for it but since it’s free I’m giving it 4. Great spot for lunch.

This chutney grill reminds me of a chipotle. U pick a bowl or wrap then pick ur protein then u pick ur toppings for ur meal. The flavors were amazing very bold and flavorful. Walking into this lad had a curry smell but the food doesn’t taste like it smells. I picked the quinoa bowl with chicken. I topped it off with spinach sauce. And chickpea, roasted pepper, cucumbers, broccoli. And a spicy coriander sauce. I went in blinded I never ate here before but I’m glad I did it was a great healthy and fresh lunch experience. Service is fast and u get a lot for ur buck here.

Simple, fast food with Indian inspired fare, except you get raw veggies. Kind of like chipotle whee you can mix and pick your own ingredients in your rice or quinoa bowl. Pretty delicious but on the pricey side.

Yuppie fast casual fare with Indian flavor profiles. I’m a fan. Opted for chicken and quinoa bowl in tomato and onion sauce with a bunch of toppings, coriander, and hot sauce. Hit the spot. The hot sauce was clutch. Nothing spectacular, but if I lived or worked in the neighborhood, I would hit this place up all the time.

I think the Chipotle comparison is spot on. This is one of my regular lunch stops when I work over in this area. It is quick, easy, and priced right. Based on that criteria I can comfortably say that the food here is good. The have a small dining area if you want to eat in, but I normally just take it to go. They also offer delivery, but if you are like me & get the rice bowls, you probably want to have a look at the different toppings before making your choices. My go to order is rice with chicken, masala sauce, onions/peppers/chick peas/cukes/tomatoes, and everything spicy you can put on there. They aren’t shy about the heat either. I’d like to try the lamb burger one of these days, but have tried the veggie burger. It is bit on the heavy side as far as veggie burgers go… but tastes really good. The line can get long during the work week, but they have a pretty good system that keeps it moving. They also have a membership/rewards program that provides you a quick & easy way to pay at the register. If you work in the area, don’t come here on Mondays or Thursdays. Those are the days I usually work in the area, and don’t need extra people in line ahead of me. All kidding aside, I think if you are tired of sandwiches and pizza, this is a good option.

I like the concept of this place. The idea is simple– you pick a wrap or bowl(quinoa or rice), a protein(paneer, chicken, or lamb), sauce(spinach, masala, or tomato and onion), and toppings(various veggies along with green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, or yogurt). They also have other stuff on their menu such as soup, pockets(kind of like a samosa but with a flakier, phyllo kind of crust), sandwiches, and salads. I ordered a lamb and quinoa bowl as well as paneer and spinach pockets. I am not a fan of the $ 2 charge for quinoa but the bowl was pretty good. They were extremely generous in terms of how much lamb they put in the bowl. At first, I thought it was expensive at $ 11(including an extra $ 2 for the quinoa and another dollar for the lamb) but I thought it was an okay price for the for the portion. The veggies were super fresh, the masala sauce was tasty though I wished there was more, and the quinoa was nicely cooked. I would definitely order this again but would maybe also get a little yogurt and chutney on top. The paneer and spinach pockets were okay, but I thought they lacked flavor. They do come with either green or sweet chutney and were better when I dipped them in the sweet chutney. The chutney was a bit thicker than what you would find at more traditional Indian places but was good. Overall, I do like this place; would probably give it 3.5 stars if possible but rounded up.

YoSteph nailed it: «Imagine Chipotle meets Indian food and you’ll get the Greene Chutney Grill.» I’m admittedly not a healthy food nut. I like to eat healthy when I can, but I don’t like to sacrifice the sheer enjoyment of eating good food. Greene Chutney Griil does offer some generally healthy food options… I think. I mean, who really knows? By the time I pile on 97 or so toppings, I probably may as well eat a pepperoni pizza. «Quinoa.» Pronounced: QUINN-OH-UH.(By us health food Philistines.) This stuff is interesting. It’s like air-infused rice with a tiny little pubic hair attached to every kernel. No, seriously, it’s good! Well, it’s not terrible.(Oh jeez, I really don’t know how to describe this stuff.) Ok, in all seriousness… Greene Chutney Grill is a nice addition to an area devoid of good food choices. I’m not a huge fan of Indian food. But there are a lot of combinations you can create here — far more than Chipotle. And there are so many sauces, toppings, sprinkles, juices, powders, and spices that you can add to any combination that you should be able to concoct something you like. The problem for me is… well, it’s complicated. I think the problem might be that I try to combine too many things that don’t really work together. Or it’s just a host of flavors that are so far removed from my buffalo sauce and blue cheese taste buds that I simply can’t appreciate the amazingness that is the Greene Chutney Grill. So now I just get a lamb burger and call it day. 3 stars for the lamb burger!

Spinach and paneer pockets = amazing Quinoa bowl with organic chicken and the fixings = delicious and very filling This is really like chipotle meets Indian food, but it maintains its own with high quality ingredients and spices. Décor and seating is nice too, and somewhat expected with this neighborhood. Great service from the team in not only taking and delivering the order quickly, but also in making recommendations on what to get and what tastes good together. Definitely a fan … I’ll be back when I’m in the area again.
