Hubby walked past it and saw«BBQ» and immediately went in. I parked and followed. So much snow and traffic we decided to take it to go. We were welcomed by the manager Ron who was so nice. We ordered ribs/chicken, yellow rice with a side of vegetables. Let me tell you, we were so surprised. It was delicious. Nothing bad to say. Ribs and chicken were juicy, tender and full of flavor. Veggies were super yummy. And best of all, they deliver! We live closer to Journal Square. A++++

Can only comment on the take-out lunch special I just devoured. It’s kind of absurd that I got a half-rack of perfectly cooked pork ribs and a bunch of grilled veggies delightfully seasoned for…$ 8.95. The bbq sauce is crazy good too. Definitely give it a try!

The food is delicious! Grilled BBQ chicken with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies is my absolute favorite. Oh and the chicken soup is sooooooworth trying!!! And the green sauce is out of this world!!! The food is never pre-cooked so it always comes right from the grill and is super fresh and flavorful! Chef Tony is an amazing cook and is super friendly! Have been to Brazil numerous times and cuisine is prepared in the best Churrascarian traditions! Delicious! Thank you Tony for your great meals !!!

I really wanted to love this place because I love the ribs and skewers you can get at the Grove Street market. The bummer was that tonight they didn’t offer either. Apparently the ribs are awesome here so I’ll have to head back to try. I had the half chicken bbq with salad and veggies. The veggies were actually awesome and well seasoned and not previously frozen like everywhere else. The chicken was flavorful and juicy. Make sure to ask for the homemade hot sauce. Unique orange color and bright spice add to the overall experience. The big problem here was the ambiance and service. Be patient because the food takes awhile, but flavor and portions are well with it. Service is spotty. I will return for the food but takeout only.

I recommend this place if you have NOPLANSATALL. We waited for over 25mins and was not acknowledged. Once they served our water, waiter/cashier, handled the water by holding it by the rim of every cup. We ended up leaving and they did not apologize. I would not recommend this place.

Wow. We placed an order via Seamless tonight. Golden Grille cancelled our order and no one bothered to call us. We called about 45 minutes after placing the order to get an ETA on the delivery and they told us ‘yeah that order was cancelled.’ No call, nothing. Horrible. What company operates that way? Their hours are supposed to be until 9pm. Order was placed at 7:30pm. Did I mention horrible?

This is a tiny little corner shop offering huge portions of tasty, Brazilian inspired barbecue. The room is bright, with pillows and a few small tables, but my experience was with takeout. I picked up an order of their BBQ chicken with a side of veggies and rice & beans. My styrofoam box was packed to the brim and a small cardboard cup was stacked on top to hold the soupy beans. The chicken was just what you would expect from a a Churrascaria: well-seasoned, juicy, and with perfectly crisp skin. The veggies(a mix of mushrooms, onions, and peppers) were satusfying, and the hearty rice and beans(tender, yet under-seasoned yellow rice matched with subtly smoky, boldly flavoured black beans) were immensely satisfying. Given that Golden Grille is about a two minute walk from me, I reckon I’ll be making a return trip.

I’ve been here several times but a couple of months ago, I came here with the Sustainable JC group and had a really wonderful sampling of all their foods. I loved everything I ate! I’m not sure if they made a special menu for us but when I had the ribs and the rice noodles, it hit me that maybe the chef was Asian or cooked with an Asian influence. The flavors are subtle but enhancing, which is actually how I love my food. The spices on the ribs were not glaring which made it so obvious how juicy the meat was. I also had the lasagna, mozzarella, basil, tomato appetizer, roast chicken and salmon. I enjoyed all of them though I tend to like juicier, fatter cuts of meat or way of cooking ;) When we order for delivery, we always get the ribs entrée that comes with rice/fries and veggies. It’s enough for two people with some leftover. and it’s really cheap, about $ 17. I really like their food — it’s a good every day place, low key and in my neighborhood!

This place is a hidden gem amongst a sea of endless restaurants on Newark ave. If you’re looking for a BBQ fix, this is the place to go. The staff is super friendly and made us feel right at home. While waiting for my order the chef sent a sampler of their ribs and chicken BBQ. The BBQ ribs were tasty and fall of the bone delicious. The chicken was good too, but the ribs had me at hello. For my main meal I ordered the skirt steak with rice and beans and a side of vegetables. The skirt steak was cooked to perfection. The rice was tasty and your typical Portuguese style of yellow rice. The portions were generous and will leave you feeling perfectly satisfied. This place has good food and reasonable prices. I’ll definitely be back!

To call this a churrascaria is a misnomer. There seems to be no big grill with a ton of meat, no waiters walking around with meat, no simmering churrasco. But, I knew that before going. I got take out. So - Service:(to the extent that one has«service» during take-out) very friendly ½ rack of pork ribs: mediocre. Not too fatty but nothing to remember. bbq sauce(side container): yuck. Tasted cheap. chimichuri(side container): fantastic side of veggies: wonderfully seasoned. Two thumbs up. side of fries: bad. Just wrong. Limp, clearly not double fried. No. A very solid 3-star rating. Room for improvement but a solid start.

I usually wait until I’ve gone to a place twice before I review it, BUT… I think I can give this place a 4 based on the vibe and hospitality alone. ANDTHEMOTHER****INGSOUP. Oh my god. It was like a Maya Angelou poem in my mouth featuring Robert Frost for the chorus. R. Kelly and Lady GaGa better get back, get back, they don’t know ‘em like that. I sat across the street trying to read the chalkboard out front. Fail. So I walked up to the door, read a sign that said«Dinner @ 5PM» and walked in through the tiny opening in the door. I knew it was 4 something and still went in… I don’t know why. They asked me what I wanted after telling me the kitchen was kinda closed for now and the first thing that popped into my head was a Philly Cheese-steak. So that’s what I ordered. Which, goes against everything I believe in. If I go to a burger place for the first time, I get a burger. Salad spot? Salad. Sushi place… um, sushi please? I ordered something that spawned in my least favorite city on the eastcoast(Which spawned The Flyers). Why did I do that? Because it was the last thing I read on the board outside. They fired up the grill and it took about 20 minutes. I’m super patient and was aware of the circumstances so I really didn’t mind. There was another customer talking about the soup and at some point the owners asked me if I wanted to try it. My response? «YES. OHHHHHHGODYES.» And yeah… that was the best soup I have ever had in my life. I would go there just for the soup. Be it fall, winter, spring or summer. We could be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and I would come here first before checking out hospitals and Dicks Sporting Goods for supplies. I would swim in this soup and call it Finding Nemo 3: The Search For Finding Nemo 2. It is that good. Comes in a cup. And you can drink that $h!+ like Jack Sparrow. SOWHYAREYOUSTILLREADINGTHIS?!

Improved!!! We gave this place another try, and good thing we did. Service has improved — they got our order right & food came in time. Food also improved from the last time, skirt steak was juicy, although it could’ve used a little bit more seasoning. Wife got the chicken BBQ and she found it flavorful, and moist. But I have to admit, we really enjoyed the vegetable side dish which was quite fresh & delicious(it also had a hint of being grilled). The rice & beans were good as well. So I’m cautiously adding another star. Hopefully they can smooth out their inconsistencies(which seems to be the biggest Unilocal complaint). But we will be back to try their non-BBQ items.

Golden Grille is a place I’ve passed numerous times without ever stopping by. It occupies a tough space — seems like businesses come and go there — so I had been curious about it for some time. Recently, tired of the same lunch routine, I decided to order take-out. The place bills itself as «fusion churrasqueria» but the menu is ALL over the place. They offer standard charcoal BBQ — chicken, ribs, as well as short ribs and seafood — but also burgers, sandwiches, pastas, and just about everything else you could possibly think to put on a restaurant menu. Knowing their signature items were probably the BBQ plates, I ordered a combo: ½ chicken, ½ ribs, with rice/beans and fries. When I went to pick it up, the place was empty, but it was also 2 pm on a weekday. The décor was homey and cute, for lack of better words, although the language nerd in me thought it a bit odd to have«cucina»(Italian) on the wall if it was considered a churrasqueria(Portuguese). As others have commented, the portions were massive: I walked out with an entire half-sheet tray of food, plus a cup of beans. There really was half a chicken in the tray, a half-rack of ribs, and my weight in rice and fries(hooray carbs). Fries got a little soggy from the steam in the tray. Rice needed some serious seasoning and was reminiscent of the stuff in the Goya box. The beans were excellent — and I don’t generally like beans — they spiced up the rice. The ribs were disappointing. While meaty, they were also inconsistent. Some weren’t terribly dry, and others were. Overall though, I was disappointed. On the other hand, though, the chicken was very juicy and flavorful — even the white meat — which I found commendable because that’s usually what gets dried out the quickest. For $ 15, the tray was a good value, because you can split it between two other people and still be full. I would return to try other menu items but aside from the BBQ, there isn’t much else that you can’t get at another restaurant. Would also give the ribs another try to see if I possibly went on an off day.

4.5 This place is LEGIT. For the amount you pay it is so worth it for the massive amount of food you get. First of all my girlfriend don’t like just ordering one dish but we also didn’t want to spend too much so we ordered an appetizer. Our waitress recommended the shrimp and garlic with bread to to dip into the broth. She recommended well because for like 7 bucks you get a ton of baby shrimp doused in fresh garlic juice and the bread is semi warm and not toasted so when you dip the bread in it soaks so much of it that you get all the flavors. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and there was really a lot of shrimp. The main dish we split was the ½ chicken and pork rib combo that came with 2 sides and rice. As out 2 sides we chose the black beans and the mashed potatoes with gravy. So basically when we got the food it came out in like 3 plates and the bowl for the beans. We basically ordered food for a family of 4 and a dog. We were speechless on how much was on the table and our eyes lit up. We weren’t even done with the app yet so our table was definitely crowded like monkeys in a barrel. The beans were not bad and neither was the yellow rice. The rice was ok it was cooked just right. The mashed potatoes wasn’t bad either. The actual mash potatoes was smooth and buttery but the gravy was sub par. The main star was the chicken and the pork ribs. If they had a baby I would nurture it to then eat it like how Homer raised the baby lobster to a champ and ate it. I liked the ribs slightly more because it was seasoned better and fattier and juicer. The chicken was second best. Grilled to perfection and moist. The skin was crispy and went well with the carb overload on my plate. I couldn’t even use my utensils because I was like ef it this is how your suppose to eat it even though my girlfriend was very proper and I was like a savaged animal. I would have loved to finish everything but we had to take half home or else we would’ve ended up sleeping there. Top it off we got free flan on the house which was the icing on the cake. Not sure if they cooked it in alcohol or if it was burnt sugar but it was good. Great service awesome food and all under $ 25.

Ah Golden Grille, I really want to like you. You are 2 blocks from my house and Brazilian BBQ is not yet covered in the Jersey City culinary scene But I just can’t. I hope management is reading this, because with a little bit of creativity and effort they could turn this place around. Here it goes: Let’s start with the name Golden Grille’ is awfully generic and seems to be misspelled, this name is a good sign of things to come The food is awfully generic, ingredients seem like they’re low quality(hi iceberg lettuce! have you been taking 2 months to travel to us from siberia? you sure look cold and white) and there’s nothing special about the preparation. There’s no real ‘cuisine’ per se, it just seems like the cook a slab of beef and put some fries and voila you have a restaurant plate Service is inexperienced and inattentive, when we went we too were the only people there and had to go find a server to pay our bill lest we end up forgotten in the back patio(which by the way, could be really nice if they put an effort to decorating and worked on getting rid of their mosquitoes) Prices are okay and portions are huge, but that again is a sign of what’s wrong with the place. Don’t serve me 16 oz of generic beef with a salad afterthought, serve me 8 oz but put some care into it and create a quality side The ambiance in the inside of the restaurant is pleasant enough, though sadly mostly empty(why? read above) Jersey City is a great place to open an affordable restaurant that serves quality food, but the operative word is quality. Roman Nose down by Newark serves meals that are very good and at the same prices as Golden Grille(not the same portions, but who wants 2 lbs of meh), how do you guys expect to compete with that? Here are my suggestions: — Find a cuisine, change your name and focus on a few things but do them well(the menu is all over the place) — Make that back patio nice(some well placed plants and rustic decorations would do). People love dining al-fresco in a summer evening, but not when it feels like you’re stuck by the loading dock or back entrance of a building — Train your servers. They seem well meaning but don’t have a clue. They should check in, re-fill water glasses and ask how the meal is and they should make sure those water glasses stay full at least every 5 — 10 mins(that way you’ll never get the complaint that nobody was paying attention) — Go eat at Me Casa, Roman Nose, Two Boots, Chicken Bön-Chon, all places with similar price points and much better cuisine and ask yourself if you would pay to eat at your own restaurant with all the options available less than 3 blocks away I promise you, if you change just a little bit, i’ll be back, because i really want you to succeed.

I first learned about Golden Grille when they were a participant restaurant in the JC Food Co-Op’s Chef Showdown. So, an automatic star for supporting local organic food initiatives ;) Then I had the opportunity to eat there last night and LOVED it. The owner and waitstaff are lovely and attentive. We sat in the super-cute garden area. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. I didn’t hear a single complaint about the food. What we ate: Apps: Calmari was crispy and not rubbery or over-battered. Sauce is mild but you can ask for hot sauce if you want. Shrimp & Garlic was bangin! I had the full rack of ribs which comes with 2 sides. A full-rack order was probably pretty ambitious but I really barely made a dent. Others had the chicken sandwich, the skirt steak, and the combo platter(ribs, chicken, spare ribs, AKA Plate O Meat) Plus it’s BYOB. Ya’ll know I love a good BYOB. Looking forward to going back.
