Years ago, in the wake of a stomach ulcer, I was advised by my doctor to avoid anything with meat, anything with oil and fats, and anything spicy for the time being. First meal I purchased after that was one of their spicy pepperoni rolls with mozz. As much as it hurt for the following night, I refuse to call it a mistake. I have to admit that a lot of childhood nostalgia is influencing this review. I went to school at the nearby ps33 and later at the now defunct school on Ege Ave down the block so Elio’s was commonly in my lunch bag at field trips. The pepperoni and mozz roll is a favorite of mine. I’m ashamed to say the over-buttered crust has me addicted. I do like the pepperoni itself though. Sharp spice and a lot of flavor. I can’t say the same for their sausage. I would pass on that. Thumbs down for their cheesecake though. It’s a very heavy, dense body. No crust. There was a slight sourness at first bite. Nice staff. Their hot food can run out through the day. Their menu can completely shorten by 4pm.

I go to Elio’s for their terrific Sicilian pizza slices, sub sandwiches, fresh bread, and custard cups. The pizza squares reheat wonderfully, and I always buy one extra custard cup because I know I’ll eat one on the ride home, flaky crumbs in the car be damned! Their baguettes are really good, here’s a picture of a pâté platter I made and ringed with slices of their bread to top with a mustard schmear and a slice of pâté. My guests all asked me where the bread came from! The only downside is that parking can be difficult in the area.

I’ve been coming to Elio’s bakery for years and they generally have been really good but as of late, they have been a bit inconsistent. We order breakfast from this place all the time because we’re convinced the bread is best when you order before 11AM. For some reason they have been many times that we have ordered for lunch, and the bread has tasted old. But for some reason that problem never occurs before 11AM. Sometimes they serve wilted lettuce to as well. So the people at my job and I generally only order from Eleos in the morning.

From my Old Neighborhood easily the best selection of bread: Pinellas, rolls etc. and where in that area and amongst the best anywhere. Their cold cuts are terrific their sandwiches do not skimp on meat and absolutely terrific and not pricey.

Amazing!!! I popped in on a whim since I hadn’t made it to my usual deli and I was totally taken aback. Behind the counter is endless cubbies of freshly backed crusty breads, rolls and bagels. the counter is loaded with cookies and pastries and the deli meats are all Boars Head. With affordable prices and friendly staff /patrons, you can stock up on your favorite delicacies.

I’ve slept on this bakery/deli mainly because i always looked at it as a simple bakery BUT boy do they have one helluva cold cut selection and menu of assorted combination sandwiches. They have tons of bread to choose from, a large variety of pastries, and they even have a select amount of hot entrees to serve. I’ve slept on this place but I don’t mind it remaining a secret… unless, of course, this review is shared by enough people

I LOVE their pizza. I usually go in for the pizza, but I’ve had sandwiches and their chicken salad(watch out, the chicken salad is just as addictive as the pizza)! I work in this area, although the staff is friendly and attentive, this place can get crowded during lunch hours… But isn’t that a good sign?

Four years. I have been passing this place for 4 years and finally got around to going inside. I now wish that I hadn’t waited so long. You can purchase almost any kind of bread, roll or bagel made that day in the store. The cakes, pies, cheesecake, pastries and cookies are homemade as well. WOW. What a find. A sandwich on their fresh bread is fantastic and much better then Carmines or many of the«Downtown» Jersey City places like Milano’s, Second Street Bakery etc. incredibly small, but crammed with deliciousness. I purchased a Chicken Parm hero, cheesecake(plain) baguette, and an Italian sub with Mozz and was blown away. The fantastic, chewy and fresh bread made all the difference, I would recommend a visit if you are adventurous, you may be pleasantly surprised and happy.

After moving out of Jersey City, I must say that its a shame I haven’t been able to find a good local bakery like Elio’s. Great bagels and really hearty loaves of bread. Friendly and attentive staff and management. Also, very good Italian style meats available, however they are somewhat pricey. The sweets are really good as well, but the bread, bagels, and rolls are where it’s at. Better then many bakeries I’ve been to around Hudson County.

Great italian bakery in the west side section if jersey city! Fresh bread and pastries, sandwiches and hot food all so good. This place is much more authentic that what you would get from the downtown JC yups.

What’s a bakery like this doing on West Side Avenue in Greenville?! Where are all the Italians? They must be somewhere because there’s a few hidden Italian places sprinkled throughout Greenville. Jersey City Italian bakeries are all awesome. Fresh, homemade, authentic and full of calories.
