I give the establishment 4 stars for excellent FOOD, and those four stars are awarded for only that alone, and maybe the Mediterranean music I enjoy, however a few things to me are a major turnoff. For some reason with the young crowd serving staff in today’s world, the concept of saying«YOU’REWELCOME«has been replaced with«NOPROBLEM«which is highly inappropriate and doesn’t even make a connection as a response. But it is the fad which has evidently been made the lingo today after someone says Thank You. The young server I had was very nice, but it had to be at least 7 times she replied with a «NOPROBLEM«rather than a «You’re Welcome » It is really unsophisticated and simply improper use of the language. And these kids go to college too. In addition, the owner here seems to look down his nose when he see’s a single person dining, as if everyone in suburbia should be married and dining with people. You can see who he greets and converses with and who he snubs as he circulates his dining room. I believe on 4 consecutive times I ate their alone, he asked the same question: «Oh, you are here by yourself tonite? » Umm, is that a problem sir? Isn’t $$ going into your pocket regardless of who or who I am not with? The astonishing thing is that I continue to go back for the good food, despite the unproffesionalism here.

Whenever I eat here, I just love it They are so generous with their portions and the flavors are delicious. The waiters are efficient and pleasant. I love going here for lunch as well as dinner.

Came here with a great group of colleagues for dinner; we left full and happy. I had the lobster bisque, which was not quite as creamy as I’m used to, but still, very good. Plus, I didn’t feel the usual post-bisque fullness and had ample room for further courses. I had the veal florentine next; portion wise the meal was small for American standards, but likely just right. Two tenderloins with fresh spinach, mozzarella, in a garlic, white-wine sauce. No pasta is served with it. I finished the meal and felt satisfied without loosening my belt. My buddy had the tuna steak served with mashed potatoes that looked absolutely outstanding-likely my next meal there. Mirna’s has been around for a while, and I can see why.

Went to go get some dinner, saw one of your cooks outside In his obviously very food covered apron smoking. How disgusting. Your cooks that stand out front speak for your establishment and that is not«healthy» or ckean. I will not be back

Very good lunch – good choices and reasonable prices. however AVOID the Mirna’s Soup — DREADFUL I had the kafta roll – it was delicious and out of the ordinary. Seasoned very well and not too dry.

How can a restaurant offer mussels in red in a bowl of juice and run out of good bread? How can your delicious dishes have wonderful sauces and you constantly run out of bread on a Saturday night? My wife and I have tried both locations and each time you are stingy on the bread. For the record… pita bread DON’T cut it to soak up sauce! Neither does microwaving your frozen or day old bread on a Saturday night. Last time to at your blue bell location we asked for more bread to soak up the delicious veal piccata sauce and you gave us microwaved bread… on a Saturday night! Are you kidding!!! I could see if you run out on a Tuesday… but you have been in business long enough to know better… Please provide fresh bread to your customers…

Sigh. I ordered takeout at lunch here, because it’s one of the few places within walking distance from my job that I haven’t tried. The interior is classy though a tad generic. The gentleman who served me was quite nice. They’d just redone the menu, and I was in a hurry so I got one of the first things I saw — Seafood Caesar Salad. Unfortunately, they seem to put things on their dishes that aren’t listed on the menu. I got back to work and found about a half pound of tomatoes and a big olive on it. The two foods hate more than anything on god’s green earth are olives and raw tomatoes. The shrimp, crab, and croutons that are actually on menu were in short supply. There are a lot of places in Jenkintown. I’ll keep on moving.

Classic overbooker, you fooled me once so shame on me. Won’t be back. If you want to leave me standing for 45 minutes past my reservation time in a rush-hour-subway-crowded freezing anteroom with a drafty door that opens right up onto the street, please make sure that you’re about to thrill me with the best food I’ve ever tasted in my life and not the merely OK fare that I was eventually served. At least have the decency to pass out complimentary drinks or hors d’oeuvres to the dutifully(stupidly?) waiting hordes of shivering 50– and 60-somethings who, after a quarter of an hour or so of being cooped up together may have begun to believe that they were being watched by hidden cameras as part of some Penn PhD candidate’s psychology project. I can live with rejection, but not with being lied to. If you don’t have the seats, don’t take the reservation. It’s that simple.

I had their fettuccine with smoked salmon the other night and it was very good. The service was great as well. Waiter seemed familiar with the menu and the owner stopped by our table at least once. The only negative is parking. Drop your elderly at the door if possible and park behind the restaurant so that you don’t have to dodge traffic crossing Old York Road. BYOB.

Mirna’s straddles the line between good and great, but it’s good, very dependable and the service is always very helpful and accommodating. They did a fantastic job on our wedding rehearsal dinner several years back and I know from experience how hard it is to serve 20 good meals at once. Their prices were fair and the food was very tasty, particularly for an event like this. For normal dining, they have an extensive menu(maybe too extensive) with multiple specials… we have a hard time deciding what to get and there is plenty we find appealing. My clams over pasta was VERY good… the clams were fresh and flavorful, the pasta was nicely al dente and the large slices of garlic are fantastic for garlic aficionados. This is our go to restaurant in Jenktintown. If you want cool, hip and trendy, go elsewhere… that’s not what this is. It’s solid food with good service that’s been a Jenkintown institution for decades.

Not in love with this place. It’s pretty clearly geared towards an old folks clientele(there are notes all over the menu about extra charges for sharing), though we were able to walk in on Saturday night at 8 with no reservation and be seated almost right away despite a pretty full house, so that’s always nice. Service was quite good, my water glass was never empty, but the food was mediocre. I had the Mirna’s Soup, which is shrimp, potatoes, spinach and basil all in a kind of strange broth that was neither good nor bad. One of my shrimp hadn’t been cleaned/de-veined well, but other than that it was a decent soup. The bread was fine, the pita was extremely dry. I also had a seafood caesar salad, which wasn’t very good. The crab was a little fishy and the dressing was a little strange, not caesar-y more like an olive oil dressing. Also there was one olive in the salad, I guess as like a little bonus. Odd. Also tried the fried calamari(chewy but good marinara sauce) and my husband’s Penne Vodka, which I thought was perfectly good. I guess the trick is to get the pasta here. We had desserts that were fine but nothing I would order again. Neither the apple cake or the cheesecake tasted very fresh. Overall, the price was pretty high for the quality of the food, and while the general restaurant scene in Jenkintown is pretty abysmal, I think you can do better than this place. Not planning to return.

I’ve been to Mirna’s about four times over the past few years and never been disappointed. The portions are HUGE, especially for the modest price tag. Do yourself a favor and get a pasta dish, I can assure you that you’ll be glad you did. I’ve had fish there too, which wasn’t bad by any means, but the pasta plates are definitely their specialty. A couple of the times I’ve been there they treated us to free hummus and pita, which is always a plus. BYOB! Only knock on the place is that it’s pretty small, so make sure to call ahead to reserve a table or check for a wait.

I was surprised at how nice Mirna’s was. I was expecting another Jenkintown casual place, and though there is nothing wrong with that, Mirna’s was much nicer. Service was excellent(almost too good, until more people showed up to distract the hordes of servers). Food was very good, and the portions were gigantic. BYOB.

This past Friday evening I dined with my girlfriend at Mirna’s Café on Old York Road in Jenkintown. I have not visited Mirna’s in easily a decade as I have moved out of the area and was back visiting family. Mirna’s has changed and for the worse. We sat down at about 9:30pm and the food looked and tasted like it had been prepared some time around 4pm. For an appetizer we ordered the muscles, which were way overdone and appeared to have been simmering for about the past decade. I ordered the Mirna’s Shrimp, and I could not get past the first bite. My girlfriend ordered some pasta with shrimp, which while edible, was not enjoyable. The staff of Mirna’s was the only plus. They were kind and attentive, and I saw them sprint out the door and run all up and down Old York Road in order to return a wallet to a patron who had forgotten it. I hope that Mirna’s takes better care of its earlier seating than it did us late-comers. I was unimpressed and will not return – ever. Huge disappointment.

Mirna’s is a great neighborhood-y restaurant. I’m always a sucker for a good BYOB and they have very friendly staff, generous portions, and pretty tasty food. I find their menu to be sort of alarmingly lengthy(which doesn’t exactly lead me to believe anything is super fresh), but lots of options are probably a selling point for most people and as I mentioned above, the food still tastes good. I like the grilled squid appetizer and a number of their pastas. I’ve ordered a blackened fish dish from time to time and found it to be quite good as well.

When in Jenkintown, PA your options of restaurants to visit and not be the youngest person there(pretty much no matter how old you are, amazingly enough) is limited. So, part of the 4 stars does come from grading on a curve for what’s in the area. That said, there is a really big menu featuring wraps, sandwiches, pasta dinners, and meat. It’s kind of lebanese-themed but just in the fact that they skew toward hummus, wraps, etc. They also have plenty of traditional american fare, though. I have the chicken wrap and add hummus. It’s too big for me to eat for lunch so i always save half and have a second meal. Very tasty. Staff is great. Cool with substitutions and really seem to take the«whatever it takes to make you happy» attitude.

We went to Mirna’s last week on the advice of friends. The food was outstanding, especially for the price. I had a the Meditteranean appetizer plate, which was huge, fresh and flavorful. The best dolmades I’ve had in this region! My greek salad was generous and tasty. Hubby had the grouper, which was out of this world delicious, with a complex, rich sauce. The only drawback was their pita bread, which I find dry and flatter than the average. Also, don’t expect a private tête-à-tête with your date, since the tables are close together. But even though small, the décor is simple yet elegant. Mirna’s is a definite keeper!
