We have previously eaten at the Hamburger Store and it was good but obviously this business is under new management. First off, the did not have enough staff on hand to handle all the tables. We had 4 people at our party, 3 of us had water and it took over 30 minutes to get our drinks. I ordered the Tuna Patty«burger» and it wasn’t until after it was brought out they realized they didn’t have all the ingredients for it so I could order something or they’d give to me for free. Seeing as it took another 20 minutes to get my food, I stuck with the tuna stuff. The burgers were dry and everyone outside was complaining too. Awful service and awful food! Very disappointing – seeing as this was one of our favorite places in Jefferson!!!

The service was great. The food even better. Definately going to make the trip back here.

Not impressed. Waitress were slow and not personable. It took over an hour for food to come and that wasn’t impressive either. We had bbq chicken bacon sandwich and burgers ordered in our party. One of my sons ordered the peanut butter and jelly and that wasn’t even good. There was not enough peanut butter on the bread to even thinly cover it.

This place used to be awesome. My family has visited the town and this restaurant for 20 years, but the last few times it has been a huge disappointment. We gave it one last try this past weekend. The service was bad. Our fried pickles were good but we were never given plates. Even after our waitress saw us substituting thin, paper napkins for plates for our greasy pickles, we still weren’t offered plates. For lunch I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. The sandwich wasn’t warm, the cheese wasn’t melted, correct me if I’m wrong, but in order for it to be a GRILLED cheese sandwich, it needs to actually be GRILLED, otherwise it’s just stuff slapped between 2 slices of bread. My husband and oldest daughter got steak fingers and neither liked them, my youngest got a burger and it wasn’t any better. The highlight of the meal was the fried pickles, fries and onion rings. The pie was all picked over(lunch time on a Saturday) so we didn’t get to try the pie. But the biggest bummer was paying $ 40 for a meal that no one really enjoyed, and my kids didn’t even eat. I know this place has a reputation for being one of the best burger joints in east Texas, but that must have been in it’s heyday, and unfortunately things have changed. If you want a good burger in Jefferson, go to Auntie Skinners. Skip the Hamburger Store.

Hey, this is the real deal. Great burgers & sandwiches. Double cheddar bacon burger is the best, although my wife thinks that the grilled cheese is best. Chicken tortilla soup is an excellent choice too. We’ll worth a drive to eat here.

Prompt and friendly service, and our food came out quickly. There were three adults, one teenager and two children. We all got a variety of food for dinner, and it was amazing! We will definitely come back if driving through this area again.

I was told by a friend that the Hamburger Store has the best hamburger in East Texas. So I had to see for myself and so far it is the best. I had the avacado burger and I highly recommend it. And the server was excellent, funny and nice.

My wife and I were in Jefferson a couple of years ago and stopped at The Hamburger Store for a meal. The food, service, and atmosphere were great. This weeked we went back with our older daughter and decided to have lunch there again. Big Mistake! My wife and I ordered chicken strips and fries, my daughter ordered a burger and sweet potato fries. After a lengthy wait, our food arrived. My daughters’ burger had the thinnest patty I’ve seen outside of a cheap fast food place, and the sweet potato fries were too greasy to eat. The chicken strips were in a small puddle of grease, and the fries were so poorly cooked(soggy and greasy) that they were inedible. To cap it all off, the waitress apologized and explained that they were out of gravy for the chicken. She promised to bring it as soon as more was ready. It must have taken a while for someone to get back from the store with more Pioneer mix, we were halfway through the meal before it arrived. Sadly, it was thin and poorly mixed. We left a good tip for the waitress, she was doing her best, but she was crippled by poor management and a poorly trained kitchen staff. We won’t be back.

This was my second visit to the Hamburger Store since their new ownership, and I was not impressed either time. I cannot comment on the hamburger, but the Reuben was ok, not a lot of flavor. They were out of fried dill pickles. The batter on the fried green tomatoes was delicious, however, the tomatoes were mushy-never experienced that before, but my Dad thought maybe they were deep fried, instead of pan fried, thus cooking the tomato to «well done» :(. The onion rings were good, the coconut cream pie was also ok. Not the best I have had, but far from the worst. I found it pricey, as the hamburgers/sandwiches do not come with sides. And most everything seemed overpriced. The waitress was sweet, and attentive, but the atmosphere is definitely lacking. It was lunch hour during our meal, there was little business, and I found the silence(no background music) kind of overwhelming when we first walked in. I miss the old Hamburger Store. :(

This place has been completely remodeled. Some of the reviews are from before the renovation and before the new owners took over and reopened the place. Their hamburgers are easily the best I’ve ever had. The homemade jalapeño cheddar sourdough buns can’t be beat! Love the décor! This place really is the perfect spot for a casual, delicious lunch! We went there 3 times while staying in Jefferson and plan to make a trip that way again soon… just to grab another burger!

I rode to Jefferson on Sunday for a burger. Unfortunately the Hamburger Store is closed and the building has a for sale sign in front of it. I know it is permanent because all of the dollar bills that adorned every flat surface have been removed. Only cheap paneling remains. The food was never great but the atmosphere was very good. I will miss it.

It was open when most other places were closed one Tuesday evening. It was not smokey or noisy so we stayed. It was all right — not as bad as other reviews make it seem. His hamburger was blah and one would think if anything in a restaurant called Hamburger Store would be good, it would be a hamburger. No. My catfish was acceptable. I liked the pickled green tomatoes. Service was fine as it should have been considering how few customers were there.

Do not eat here! This was our first visit to Jefferson and our friends recommended this place. First of all, the food took FOREVER to get to us. The waitress was very short with us, did not come refill our drinks, we had to go out and ask for things we wanted, and there were not that many people in the restaurant. Once the food finally did come, it was cold, tasteless, and bland. The fries were soggy and disgusting, and at $ 2.50 you would expect them to be better. Everything was overpriced, it was seriously our worst restaurant experience in years. We get better service at fast food joints, this was bad. We will never eat here again.

One star for atmosphere(really great, dollar bills all over the walls). One star for good pie. Jeffersonulatta had too much italian pickle mix. But aside from that was okay. Not worth $ 10 though. Service was really really slow and we were the only ones in the restaurant(with 2 waitresses there just chatting to each other). When there was service, our waitress was super nice.

Skip this place. Don’t even go in. The service is S.L.O.W. and inattentive — even when they are not busy. Our food obviously sat on the counter for a very long time before we got it. The grilled cheese sandwiches were cold and watery and the hamburger bun was soggy and gross! There are many many many better places to eat in Jefferson. This was bad. Really bad.

My husband and I arrived in Jefferson to see some family. The little bed and breakfast that we stayed at recommended The Hamburger Store to us but warned us that the service was horrid and the wait was long. He said that sometimes the burgers were worth the crap you had to go through though, so we decided to give it a try for lunch. When we arrived, the place was dead. My husband and I stood there for about 5 minutes while the 7 people who were working argued over who’s table we should be sat at. None of them wanted us. Finally, we were seated and our waitress asked for our drink orders. She was unpersonable, never smiled, and was simply a joke. The wait for two burgers was indeed long. I ordered a normal cheese burger and fries. My burger was soggy and nothing special. The fries were burnt and undesirable. We were very disappointed with the service and food.

Told by a relative that this was THE place to go for a burger in Jefferson. The menu had a huge selection, offering fried anything… okra, tomatoes, corn fritters, pickles, jalepenos, pie… you name it. I ordered a Cheddar Burger, it was alright though I was a bit disappointed with the flavor, just seemed kind of bland. My sweet potato fries were the same, frozen I’m guessing. My husband ordered the Cowboy Steak, cardiologists everywhere will profit from this menu item. Chicken fried steak, smothered with cheese, chili, jalepenos, and onions. He managed to eat most of it. Overall, this is a charming little diner loaded with character, dollar bills, and fried food. If you’re in Jefferson, check it out.

I’m sorry Mark C felt slighted by the hostess who seated him but my experience was more like Nina W’s. I just stopped in to kill an hour before an appointment and was pleasantly surprised. I was told I could sit anywhere I like, so I did. I asked the waitress what was unique to their establishment & then made my own decision. I ordered something new on their menu, called a Jeffersonulatta, with«bottle caps» and corn fritters. The Corn fritters were perfectly golden brown, the bottle caps were slices of fresh jalapenos that had been battered & fried then served with ranch dressing for dipping. The sandwich was their own take on a Muffalatta, with layers of meat, melting cheeses & spanish olives on a delicious sourdough roll. MMMMM. Good! I was too full to attempt their pies but will be back again.(Maybe I’ll try their fried green tomatoes, or their fried pickle spears, or their fried mushrooms. .. or maybe their«build your own burger». .. so much to choose from.)

I visited the Hamburger store yesterday early evening for the very first time in my whole life! :0) Well, first of all, this place is located in Jefferson, Texas and since I was already touring the area, I knew I had to find places to eat and talk about. Walking into this rustic, quaint and friendly resturant, I knew I wanted a seat which would give me privacy, yet, a great view of all that was going on. Because it was a Monday and perhaps because it was before 6pm, this place wasn’t packed, but, it had a steady influx of patrons. We were greeted immediately, picked our spot and were attended to… I love good service, I thrive on great service… this was great! After ordering my Dr. Pepper, I realized I was surrounded by dollar bills… everywhere you look, you’ll find dollar bills stapled to the walls and ceiling. Some have initials, political support, messages of love, some have other wordings…(smiling) Okay…you’re not interested in money unless it’s yours, right? I see… well, the food is what you’re thinking about, huh? Well, I ordered a Catfist dinner which includes 5 filets of fried catfish, a mound of french fries, cole slaw, greens, beans and 2 cornbread sticks. I didn’t get to eat it all, I would have exploded at my seams! But, I did eat a bit of all the dinner and it was fantastic… absolutely perfect… oh, well, the catfish wasn’t heavily seasoned, but, that is okay with me, I usually like to taste my first before I taste the seasonings. My husband ordered a Chicken Fried steak dinner… came with the usual sides… the steak was huge! He loved the taste… he seldom even stopped eating long enough to talk to me!(how dare!) Our girls both got kid meals and they half ate… but, that’s just kids… Oh, and for appetizers, which are very cheap priced(starting at $ 2.99), we ordered corn fritters… yummmy! Overall, this is a place you can take anyone and have a great time. The atmosphere is laid back, clean, family oriented. but not so many kids that you’re going to leave with a Cheetos hand print on your hinny(long story). The locals order take out sometimes and the Sheriffs are always eating there, afterall, they are just a block down the street from their offices… You’ll want to save room for pie… they have delicous, old fashioned pies ready for you to sink your teeth into babe! Also, for those of you who need to avoid sugar, they have sugar free for you also! I was so pleased with the quality of this estabishment, I know I will be dropping in there again someday soon!
