Do you like breakfast? Then stay here. More on breakfast in a minute. We had an event in Jefferson, NY, and chose Backstage for the weekend. The B&B is an old home, built about 1820, that the owners renovated over about 10 years. They live in part of the structure and rent out the 4 rooms, which are decorated like backstage hangouts of various stars.(Fun concept.) The whole place is packed with antiques and curated objects; it’s not a good place for small or medium kids. The owners were a lot of fun and very hands-on in taking care of us. They seem to enjoy the company of various people coming through.(We discovered later that several of our family members had stayed there too, which is to be expected in a town with a population around 1,300.) Where they really shine is breakfast. Yes, breakfast. They absolutely nail the«breakfast» part of «bed-and-breakfast.» The husband(an actor, singer, performer) is also a gourmet cook and really gets. into. it. Both mornings we were there he blasted Italian opera and belted out show tunes while he was cooking. The food was locally sourced, made-to-order, fresh, and absolutely fantastic. A practical note on bathrooms: While each room has a private bath, the bathrooms themselves are very compact. It’s fine for most people’s needs, but I can imagine that it would be difficult for people who need wheelchair access /ADA accommodation. We enjoyed our time there and will definitely be back.
