Pimentel Market

I don’t usually right reviews on Unilocal but I absolutely had to write a review to make up for the one star given by a previous reviewer. I live around the corner from this store and I frequent there at least a few times a week. I have never felt unsafe or offended and like the last reviewer, have no idea what other patron is talking about.
For a small corner store, I am likely to find a lot of last minute things I need for cooking and when I don’t see it, they have always asked me what I am looking for & picked up the product next time — like chicken broth. Now that is how you treat your regulars.
I am going to let the cat out the bag and let you in on a little secret. I would also give 5 stars just for the quality of the avocados. I have been buying them there for years and have never had one that is less than perfect. If you like avocados, you know that it can be impossible to get a good one at the grocery store. I don’t know how they do it. It is truly an art form. They keep them behind the counter, ripen them to perfection and hand select them for sale. I get the feeling that if it’s not perfect, they won’t sell it to you.

I shopped at Pimentel Market last week and was not shot or accosted or harassed by anyone. I really don’t know what the previous reviewer is talking about. Rather than encountering urban violence, I had a great shopping experience and picked up a lot of Latin food essentials.
The selection at this market could be a little more expansive, but, it is a relatively small space. It is definitely more like a corner store than a real grocery market. However, they have an excellent selection of Latin spices, sauces and seasonings including varieties of sazon I had never seen before. Also, the prices on all spices, seasonings and sauces were very reasonable, even less than Shaw’s. This will ensure that I’ll be back! They also have a small selection of Latin cookies, sweets and snacks as well as your more everyday grocery staples. The man behind the counter was friendly when I inquired about some items that they don’t carry.
Looking forward to making this a regular stop when I am in JP.
