Steak ‘n Shake

This was my first time ever eating at a Steak ‘n Shake and I have to admit that I was really pretty impressed.
I’ll be honest, I’ve always had a preconceived notion that the place seemed cheap or gross in some way, but as I was at a comic book show next door my friends said it was decent so we went.
We sat inside and I was surprised that they have waiter service and while the food isn’t expensive it was actually pretty tasty. I loved the shoestring fries and the burger was surprisingly flavorful with a great crust from the flat top.
I’d certainly go back again.

Went in today to have lunch with my 1 year old grandchild. Waited a little longer than we should to be seated but no big deal. I was asked if I needed a high chair and the man went to get it. He came to us with the absolute nastiest high chair I have EVER seen. My jaw dropped I’m sure. I told him it was filthy and he said «I’ll go get a rag» I literally could have used my nail to scrape grease and god knows what else off of it! There is no way that chair would have been half way clean with a rag. I don’t want to think about the kitchen. The manager heard the whole thing watched me walk out and never said a word. NEVER AGAIN!

I used to hate this location and loved the Philips Hwy one buy after today, that’s been switched! Fast service, smiles on faces, food was good and hot when it arrived. No complaints at all! And told the manager who was happy to hear we had a good visit but also was going to contact the manager at the other locale regarding our poor experience. So glad we tried this one again!

What a disaster… We walked in and the restaurant was only maybe 50% filled, but it took a few minutes for a waitress to finally acknowledge us and tell us, ‘I’ll be right with you’. Well, we stood there for nearly 15 minutes more and then gave up and walked out, after the people who were waiting behind us had already left. I guess proper effective restaurant management training and the willingness to excel in business is a long lost art.

This place is the worst. Service is awful and some of the slowest I’ve ever had. And they always seem to be out of things. Example, tonight they had no french fries. How do you call yourself Steak and Shake a burger, fries and shake place and not have french fries? The management must be piss poor at best. Don’t go here.

Stopped here on our way home from a show at The Comedy Zone. Had a taste for a burger and it did not disappoint. The only problem was that we weren’t given our second order of fries though the drive-​thru. I went in and informed them of their mistake and they provided us with another order of hot fries w/​o any problems. Might continue to frequent this location with out that way.

Really out of biscuits no!!! Your full of it and it’s 15 min. after 12am and u guys just don’t have them ready… you are not «out of biscuits bet if I come back at 3 am they will have biscuits then! Pissed !

I have never been to this location before, I will not go back either. Absolutely disgusting– from the trash behind the booth– that stretches along the whole wall– to the sticky floor like it had spilled soda all over it– to the worker who used the restroom and didn’t wash his hands afterwards– to the crap floating in my drink– thank goodness I noticed it before I took a drink– it seriously looked like a tooth. There was no napkins or silverware which I had to ask for as well as refills on our drinks. And the food was gross too– my burger was dry and tasteless.

The food is good but the service is some of the worst I have had. I stopped through the drive thru and ordered pancakes. Got to work and there was no fork, butter or syrup. I called and talked to the manager on duty. I told her what happens and she replied «I wasn’t here so it wasn’t my fault» and hung up on me. I called back got the same lady and she told me she couldn’t help me. The management here needs some serious training. The lines aren’t bad here but the service just is appalling to me.

They are soooooo sloooowwww!!! Every time. The drive thru is THE worst! And they are ALWAYS out of yogurt!!! They suck… I sat in the drive thru for 13 minutes just to get cold food. Fries were hot, chicken tenders were not. That’s a lot to go through for a $ 4.50 meal

The food here is great. The milkshakes are even better. However, every single time I visit this steak and shake I wait endlessly in a line of cars at the drive thru typically over 30 min. There is usually no one in the restaurant but the drive thru still takes forever. It makes me not want to come here anymore. I’m typing this as I wait in this line again, came out for a vanilla shake at 9pm. It’s 9:42 and I’m still waiting in line. When I come earlier in the day, I don’t have this problem. The night staff although friendly are slug riding a turtle slow. After waiting now (nearly an hour) I get to the window and I am told that they are «out of shake mix» and therefore I was wasted an hour of my life for absolutely nothing. They didn’t try to make it right, they just said «sorry». They clearly knew they were out of «shake mix» and let me sit in the drive thru line for an hour without telling me. If I could give zero stars I would. I will never be back.

Love the burgers. I decided to try this place again after my last visit almost a year ago. The service still stinks. My food sat under the heat lamp for about 5 minutes, I didn’t get my entire order, had to flag my server down to get a drink refill. The business model for this place does not work.
Sorry, never again.

Went here for dinner tonight and first off they didn’t have any shakes. ??? Ordered Chili 5-​way and they have apparently changed the recipe as it was NASTY. Minuscule meat particles, very loose chili and it just tasted nasty. Had the server take it off our check and ordered a Classic Double. By the time it got to me my husband had been finished eating for about 10 minutes and instead of a double I got a single. I just went ahead and ate it because we were ready to get home.

Timing is everything. We got seated almost immediately but the lady who was waiting on us was busting her butt to wait on tables, bus tables, and provide hosting services. The people who came in after us had a serious wait time to get seated. Maybe it was a shift change as additional staff did show up but they didn’t seem to work as hard as the lady who waited on us. The food was good. I’ve always enjoyed Steak & Shakes burgers for a change.

Service is slow for a Friday night… took ten minutes for a waitress… they are hustling… need to see the Damn manager look alive and offer assistance… Will update after supper… the baby is getting corn dogs… he seems happy… the kids are going skating later…

The server was really nice. BUT! there was only one server and at least 30 people there trying to get food.
The manager looked like he was out of his league.
We waited over 40 minutes for our food and they only brought 4 meals out. There was 8 of us. He said he would bring us food for free. 30 minutes later he came back and asked what we wanted. It was over an hour before we got our food and it wasn’t even the right food…
So If your not sure what you want to eat, and you don’t mind waiting an hour for food, this place is perfect.

Never again. I ordered in the drive through a grilled chicken sandwich, vegetable soup and a chocolate shake. I have to repeat my order three times. As I drove to the window to pat, I see a gift card promotion. So when I get to the window I asked to buy the gift card first and then use it. He says yes. A girl employee comes to help, she then gives me the gift card and receipt where she’s already charged me for the meal and the gift card. I say, no problem, I’ll use it next time. Then they hand me fries and a sandwich. I tell them, nope I wanted soup. The manager comes over to say the soup is in the back and did I want fries or chili? Now, 15 minutes have passed. I tell him to hand me the cold chicken and fries and I’ll give the gift card to a homeless person. Seriously, why have soup in the menu if you can’t serve it?

I don’t know if it’s just this steak ‘n shake, but every time I get a burger from here, it’s super greasy and just sad. My side by side milkshakes are usually spot on, but other than that, I’ve had better food at other locations. Play it safe and grab fries and a shake.

First time in a few years, for some reason i never think about steak and Shake it is not in my mind but i was out ddriving errands and there they were. The Wait staff could be a little friendlier.
The food was good and the manangement work just as hard as staff.
