Steak ‘n Shake

Crappy service. I mean no service. Waited for someone to answer the drive through for 10 minutes drive up to window and nothing. This is middle of the day, 6pm on a Sunday… won’t waste my time going back.

We have been here for over forty minutes without receiving our order. It was fries and shakes. We haven’t even seen waitstaff since we placed our order immediately upon sitting down.

Yeah what can I say it’s Steak N Shake. But after the 30 minute wait I had to ask the waitress if we can be seated in one of the 3 empty tables. She grabbed menus and dropped it on the table and said «here». That didn’t cut it with me. I asked to see the manager. He came out and quickly and noted he had to fire 3 people. I told him that’s not my problem. My problem is not having good service. I get it that they are busy and short staffed but there is still no reason to take it out on customers who are attempting to enjoy a meal
Customers were bussing their own tables and getting their own refills and condiments. Food took an additional 40 minutes. Shakes an additional 20 minutes.
Maybe this location isn’t a good spot during peak times.

It’s just okay. Fast food delivered at a slow pace with half good half bad service. You know what to expect when you come here. You get ignored 60% of the time food tastes good then you get your bill delivered with your food and you don’t exist anymore. I came here as a kid. We would go to the movies and walk to steal and shake to eat. Definitely much more enjoyable as a preteen to eat here. Their cheese fries is why I keep coming back.

I would put negative stars if I could. By far the WORST fast food experience ever. I go to SNS quite often in Orange Park and they never mess up my order. My order is quite simple, I order a #8, which is a portobello and Swiss mushroom burger with NO Garlic Mayo.
Everytime for the past month I go to steak and shake on Philips Hwy I always have to go through a second time and have my burger replaced. Ridiculous. Worst Steak and shake ever. I have no idea how these people got hired.

The service was slow. Took 10 minutes to be seated and there were at least 8 empty tables. When we were seated it took another 8 minutes for someone to take our drink order. It seemed as though they did not want to give more than one refill. The kids eat free promotion on the weekend is deceiving it’s one free kids meal per $ 8 you spend. Mentioned to the waiter that we were under the impression that «kids eat free on the weekends». He stated «well I didn’t do it take it up with corporate.» So I will be. Tables were left dirty after people had left for entirely too long while the staff played on cell phones. The manager was rude and didn’t seem to care about the service. I will be returning to Steak n Shake but NOT this location!

Solid three stars for me. I’ve been going to this steak and shake since I was about 10 years old. Every Friday night after the movies we would walk over here to get milkshakes. If you have been coming here long enough, Everybody knows not to expect fast service at this location. Just don’t expect it. I can’t complain about the food. Although I do feel they skimp on the fries. The food is typical steak and shake. I went through the drive through tonight and was pleasantly greeted by the cashier who told me to pull up to wait on my food. This was fine. I’m used to that. But it actually didn’t take long at all. I was shocked at the customer service aNd how fast she brought me my food. If they keep up this good service I may come more often. So all in all it’s usually a hit or miss here.

I have to agree with the two star rating. My first time trying it and it’s nothing on the great side. Burgers were ok but the toothpick thickness fries left to be desired. Quickness of service was lacking at the drive thru. Won’t return.

For once the service was fast but only because I was the only customer in the dining room.
I had to sit there and listen to the crew bitch and gossip about the prior crew. Oh yeah almost all of my fries were less than an inch long.

Food is a bit greasy, you can see the buns shining and the fries are not always hot… Since when does it take 39 minutes to make a shake… Not happy with the timing here. For the most part, the place is clean, but they need to up their game on the staff. The place is packed but there are 3 waiters and 3 cooks… Really, people are in line waiting to get in but can’t because it takes too long to get served

Not as gross as fast food yet it has cheap fast food prices while offering great service, and the drive thru is pretty fast. Great shakes too.

This location could have better service but the food was just as good as any other location I’ve been to.

This location isn’t so great. My order is always wrong and it’s always so slow. Doesn’t matter if you go inside or drive thru.

Terrible food terrible service.
This place is supposed to be a fast food restaurant, still we spent 50 minutes there.
The side salad was served in a normally expected timeframe, however we had to wait 45 minutes for our burger and sandwich.
The sandwich was cold and the burger did not have a taste.
10 minutes before leaving we ordered a 2 shakes to go. Those never arrived. When we checked they said it’s not ready, so we cancelled the shake order. Our waitress yelled at the kitchen. At checkout shakes were still included in our bill, and we asked them to remove. They rather brought the shakes, which we cancelled before. We did not want the shake, and took an other 5 minutes to get it cancelled from the register (manager help needed).
All in all: my first and last time in a steak n shake. This place ruined the name of Steak n shake

This location seems to be hit or miss for many reviewers. And it’s been hit or miss for me too sometimes. But on our most recent visit it was a solid triple hit.
We called in our order for takeout when we weren’t that far away. While I’ve had no problems with doing that at other locations, I think it threw them off the balance just a bit. Our order wasn’t too complicated: two Frisco melts, two fries and one large coke.
The Frisco melt hit the perfect greasy spot I was looking to fill. I don’t indulge too often in this fabulous sandwich but when I do, I have big expectations. This place had no problem meeting them.
We don’t find ourselves in the area too often, but when we do & we’re in a pinch, I’ll remember these guys are here.

The shakes were amazing here and the food was good, of course it was only chicken fingers and fries that I ordered, but nevertheless it was good. Our server was nice and our order came out quiet fast, which is always a plus in my book.

I hadn’t been here since high school, but some friends and I were going next door to see a movie and decided to go retro.
The service was good, the food was what we expected, and the prices can’t be beat. The only ‘bad’ thing we saw was the table behind us (who was there before us) got hosed in the good, fast service department.
All-​in-​all, we had a good experience for the price and it was nice going back down memory lane.

Congratulations Steak and Shake! You’ve really out done yourselves… And not in a good way! Where oh where do I start??? I know… First off the service was some of the worst I’ve experienced… EVER!
Upon sitting at a table it seemed as though our waitress was going to be attentive… well. appearances can be deceiving!
I mean come on… our service went from one extreme to the other… First off within a matter of seconds of seating us the waitress asked if we were ready to order… and seemed a little upset that we weren’t…okay. I know some people immediately know what their having, but I’m not one of em…
After about five minutes… And countless times of our waitress checking/​badgering us… we placed our order… it’s at this time that our waitress went from overbearing to completely nonexistent… except of course to bring our meals.
We practically had to beg for drink refills… Actually I had to get up and flag someone down… To get a refill… One! Did the service get better? No… That was the only refill we got until we were about to leave… I figured heck might as well get to go drinks since we paid that much money for sodas anyway… Well… Guess what… I had to flag someone else down for refills… Is that all??? No… He brought to-​go drinks with the wrong size lids!
Really??? Are there that many different sizes that you couldn’t get the correct size? The guy took off before I could ask for the right lids… ummm yeah… Am I suppose to use these as coasters???
Well at this point we were all pretty mad… The food wasn’t very good either (I had the taco salad) which made matters worse… upon speaking to a rude manager about the lack of service we finally got the correct lids…
I was helping Amy up, when a waitress comes speeding by, bumping into me… Did she apologize? Nooooo!
It’s safe to say we will not be dining at this location again!

What a sad, sad meal. Not to mention the horrible service and the arrogant manager.
It’s been a while since we’d been to a Steak ‘n Shake, so we told the waitress when she approached us the first time to order that we’d need a bit to look over the menu (and even told her because it’d been a while and they had a lot of new items on the menu). She proceeded to approach our table about every 30 — 60 seconds after that to ask if we were ready to order. Annoyed the heck out of us. On the upside, we’re thinking we’ll get good service if she’s that gung-​ho, right? Heh!
We ordered and our food came out kinda quickly. I ordered my fries with cheese and they had like three drops of cheese on them (I was charged .49 cents extra for these three drops of cheese). I looked over at my friends fries and she ordered her cheese on the side and got a full cup. I mentioned this to the waitress and she did bring me out a cup of cheese. And that was pretty much the last time we saw her. My friend wanted to order something else and had to flag her down. Hubby had to flag her down for one refill and one refill was all we got.
The burger was just ‘meh.’ I know the burgers here are greasy and I expect that, but mine was really greasy. My fries were ice cold and I only ate a few of them.
Food was bad, service was bad. When we got ready to leave, we stopped another server to ask for togo drinks because our server was MIA (surprise surprise). He brought them about 5 minutes later, but brought lids that didn’t fit. My friend got up and asked for a manager (he looked like the was about 20) and asked if we could get cokes with no ice with lids that actually fit. He brought them out pretty quickly, but had ice in them. I called him over again and told him she had asked for no ice. As he walked off, he turned around and looked at me and said, «I wasn’t informed they were to be with no ice.» Effin’ really, dude? First of all, I HEARD her ask you, so basically he was calling us both liars? Second of all, you’re the manager and in an afterthought you’re going to turn around and say that to me? Just get the damn drinks! She even told him about the horrid service we had. Did we get one apology? No! When he came back to the table with the drinks, he had an attitude when he sat them down and said, «Is that all?» My friend asked him if he was really the manager because frankly, we couldn’t believe it. She then got his name, which I put in a quick tip. I’m going to be calling Steak ‘n Shake at some point this week and complaining.
I’m not one to write 1 star reviews, but this Steak ‘n Shake SO deserves it!

Sometimes, you just need a super greasy Frisco Melt with cheese fries and a diet cherry coke to get you through

I’ve done all of the above. When I had my tonsils taken out about 10 years ago, the first thing I wanted to eat were those damn, skinny fries with cheese.
So, we usually hit the drive thru here before heading down south. The frisco melt is SO greasy (but dang, I love it) you will need quite a few napkins for the adventure. And I do love their cherry cokes here…
I haven’t had too many issues with this location… sure the drive thru can be a bit slow, and they don’t cut my melt in half (why Steak n Shake?!) but all in all, for fast food… it’s AOK in my book.
