Tried to go for breakfast this morning and it was closed! :(there was a sign on the door from the building saying they changed the locks due to apparent abandonment. So sad! we loved this place.

Family friendly and homey appeal are the descriptions I think of when describing this café. One of my ultimate favorite dishes is their corned beef hash(made with REAL corned beef, not that canned crap other hometown diners have). Also, I’m not much of a seafood person, but randomly tried their seafood omelet and it too was savory. The only reason I give 4⁄5 stars is the size of the restaurant. When trying to keep ravenous children entertained due to lines at prime times, the small size can be problematic.

Not bad for a quick breakfast bite! A nice mom and pop shop feel with the eclectic mixture of tables and coffee mugs. The food selection was quite big, which makes it a great place for the finicky eater. The food is your standard breakfast food. I ordered the french toast because I felt like trying something other than eggs. The french toast was ok, nothing to write home about. Maybe try some different bread to enhance the flavor a bit. Plain old sandwich bread only goes so far. The homefies were good but could have used a little more seasoning. The pancakes were massive, had to eat some of the wife’s to make sure not much went to waste. Definitely a nice little breakfast place!

A little hole in the wall breafast place that aims to please! We went there for breakfast the other day and were impressed! They have mis matched décor and also have funky coffee cups for you coffee drinkers out there. I ordered bananna and chocolate chip cookie pancakes and let me tell you they were massvie! I was only able to eat one and took the other 2 home with me. They were good, but could have been cooked a little longer. There was a spot or two that was a little gummy. Overall it is a cute breakfast joint.

This is a neat place with a few signature items on their menu including the seafood omelet. Usually some fun music playing and most days you’ll get a serenade from the kitchen to the music. Overall a good place to eat breakfast that’s not your standard cookie cutter breakfast spot.

The atmosphere is a little weird almost like a thrift store exploded but the food was very good. Pancakes were big, fluffy and tasty Cornbeef hash was flavorful as well It’s a hole in the wall that I will definitely go back to

Exactly what a hole in the wall breakfast/lunch place should be. The décor is eclectic; with no matching chairs, plates, nor silverware. Yet, each table had matching set. The décor looked to be from secondhand stores, but they really made in work. My friend had biscuits and gravy. The gravy looked home made from scratch. Sadly his side of bacon over priced for the quantity. My eggs benedict looked beautiful and tasted well balanced. None of the flavors too strong. From the look of wait service, it’s seemed to be a family buisness. Suprisingly they had wifi. If this was in my home town, I’d go every week.

I have been to this place a bunch of times and i love the food. The pancakes are great they are fluffy and crispy. Soo good! They have a great sausage gravy that is used on the biscuits and gravy as well as one of my favorites: the country eggs benidict. Sausage scrambled eggs and cheese on English muffins covered in sausage gravy. The service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Good food. Good atmosphere. Standard breakfast prices. Try the country scrambled eggs benedict… not the healthiest, but perfect hangover food!

Great brunch for a low price. The place is filled with lovely family’s and the service is great. Everything mostly under $ 10 and is prepared quick. Come here for brunch.

Going for a hipster feel with the décor and the random coffee mugs, table settings, and plates. All that would be fine with me, if they were only clean. Mugs were stained, silverware spotty, bathroom filthy. I went here on a recommendation to try the corned beef hash, which was OK, but everything else we had was average at best. If I’m going to cross the ditch, it would need to be for better food. Not coming back.

Now this place is somewhat hard to find you really have to be looking for it. Once you find it thou you will always have it in the back of your mind or maybe that’s just me. I can’t pass it many times without stopping in. I really like the place with some really good food. I have been in here many times and have yet to get a bad meal. I stumble over my tongue most of the time wanting the Fried Bologna Sandwich. It’s just a blast from the past. I used to make theses sammies when I was in high school and the gym/cafeteria ceiling fell in at Fletcher High School. The bologna(tire Patch) with American cheese on toast is pure heaven. Now they put coleslaw and 1000 island dressing but that’s alright, it works. Now we will have to try this place for our Sunday breakfast one day for their homemade Corned Beef Hash. It just has to be good.

I was looking for a great place to grab breakfast during my first weekend in Jacksonville. Unilocal led me to Over the Ditch Café and I must say, Unilocal also led me astray. The place was cute inside — a casual, eclectic and homey atmosphere with oversized portions of food and drink. I asked the waitress if she had any recommendations. Without reservation, she suggested the Baltimore Benedict with hash browns. So, I went with it and I also tried one of their pancakes. The portions were hearty but the food was not good. The crab meat looked unrecognizable and it tasted even worse. The entire dish lacked seasoning. I remember asking for ketchup and the waitress looked a little confused. She explained that the the hash browns were like a casserole of sorts with cheese, onions and peppers, thus implying that there was no need for ketchup. When I tasted it, there was not only a need for ketchup but for anything else that I could find to add some flavor to that dish, the crab meat and the hollandaise sauce! Sigh… not a great first Saturday breakfast in Jacksonville.

This is my second review. I want to like this place because of the atmosphere and friendly service, but the food just doesn’t make it. Today, I had the French dip and ore-ida fries that reminded me of eating in the cafetorium in junior high. The sandwich was piled high, but flavorless. The only way to make meat as bland as this was would be to leave it out for too long. Which would explain why it caused indigestion.

For breakfast one time, I had the Baltimore Benedict, which does NOT = Crabcake Benedict. I was disappointed because I didn’t get the crabcake benedict I usually like ordering everywhere else. However, that won’t discourage me from coming back. For lunch one day, I had the French Dip which is very yummy :) The service has always been great. Cute interior… like shabby chic? Will need to come back to try other dishes :)

While visiting Jacksonville I used my app to find Over the Ditch Café for our group. I always prefer to try a local place rather than a big chain restaurant. Well, let me say, this group of friends is going to stop letting me pick. Thanks, Unilocal, for making me look bad! We got to the Café and waited while they cleared a table. The place was cute– hippie themed with a mishmash of different tables, chairs and cute salt/pepper shakers. While we waited to be seated some from our group had used the restroom and noticed they were out of soap. They politely let the staff know. We were seated and noticed right away no kiddie menu. Too bad since there were two kids in our group. Good thing my four year old can eat like an adult! So I ordered the eggs Benedict with a short stack to share. The food arrived mostly cold. My friend said his sausage gravy was cold and tasted awful. He said it was, «The worst sausage gravy I’ve ever had in my life». He’s also the kind of person who will not complain or send things back. I would have! My eggs were poached perfectly and my meal had a good flavor but the hollandaise sauce was cold, as was the ham and muffin. The only thing warm were the grits and eggs. Even the pancakes were only barely warm. Prices were a little high for breakfast. Oh, and the kids milk was this tiny shot of milk that cost us $ 2. Really??? So stingy! Our server seemed to prefer to look the other way rather than help make things right. At the end of our meal another friend used to restroom and the soap had not been replaced. Oh, and the toilet was broken. We again advised the staff. I went to use the other restroom(there are only two unisex singles) and it was also out of soap and broken. If there was no soap in there the entire time we’d visited how are the employees washing their hands!!! Ick… Over the Ditch was a Unilocal failure…

This was a first time visit to this place. It was kinda hard to find due to the small sign out front. I could barely read it from the road. You walk in and seat yourself which I am good with. The server was real nice also. Crab Eggs Benedict: excellent flavor with a good amount of crab meat. So far this is the best crab benedict I have had in Jax. I would definitely get this again. Large Stack of Blueberry Pancakes: 3HUGE pancakes with fresh blueberries cooked in. The flavor of the pancakes were just average but it would be impossible to be hungry if you even came close to eating all 3. Hash Browns: home fries style. decent flavor, nothing special. Coffee is decent. The only real complaint that I have is that I had to ask for a glass of water 3 times before the server finally showed up with it. I will be back to try some other menu items.

Charming little eatery. The food is good, but not spectacular. They were a lot faster this time, which was good because I was in a rush to a meeting. I came here with my son yesterday and he had french toast(and finished it all!) with a side of potatoes and I had monte cristo(which had gruyevre or however you spell it cheese with turkey and ham) with a side of grapes and strawberry slices. The monte cristo tasted like a regular turkey/ham/cheese sandwich with powdered sugar on top. Not as good as Secret Garden Café’s, but pretty good. Each of our entrees was about $ 6 – 7. Some people are wild about Over the Ditch Café, I’ll have to order their food next time. Our table was a bit wobbly and my son spilt some of his drink. The waitress woman came and almost wiped it up, just pushed the liquid around. I should have just grabbed the napkins I needed instead of asking someone. She was friendly, though. Over the Ditch Café is only open until 2:30 so make sure you come in for breakfast or lunch.
