Got the bento box with my husband. That was pretty good, but the blueberry sangria was SO bomb. Nice atmosphere, and out of place for such a small town(in a good way).

I used to LOVE this place, but ever since the expansion it’s went down hill. All of the veteran wait staff I looked forward to seeing are gone, the sizes are smaller & the prices are higher, and the quality has decreased(ex. mushy wasabi). If we had more options for sushi I would completely stop going here.

Wow! What a difference. We haven’t been here in a few years since we could never get a table. The new layout and design of this place is awesome and the food is still as amazing as before. Great service and value! Fully stocked bar as well as domestic and local bottled beers. Good bang for your buck. We will be back to have another Vegas and Dragon roll.

I go to Hillsdale College and this is the closest Sushi option. I was a bit skeptical at first, but this sushi is absolutely amazing and reasonably priced. I live in Cincinnati Ohio, and I would say it is better than the sushi houses back home.

Must try in Jackson! My husband and I were on our way home back from Chicago and decided to stop by for some sushi. Usually I’m hesitant since let’s be real GOOD sushi in Michigan is hard to find. But I have to say I’m impressed!!! Decent quality of fresh fish! The scallops and salmon were my two faves!

Good sushi. I’m from California so I’ve had better but it being jackson this is the best you’re gonna get. But ever since they remodeled they hiked up their prices, which is normal or expected but they hiked them up way too much. The rolls we used to get were $ 9-$ 10 and now they are $ 14! You guys are good but not that good and hello this is jackson not ann arbor.

My husband and I came here tonight while on our way to Chicago. To our surprise, the rolls and nigiri were really good! We had Volcano II roll, Angel roll, white tuna nigiri, and yellowtail nigiri. Fresh, tasty, and fulfilling. Prices are pretty reasonable; and their service is great as well. So glad we came here instead of going to Panda Express. Haha We’re from Novi, MI, and we know our sushi. And this place is legit.

The building is very well decorated, with large Windows and a modern feel. The food has a refined, strong flavor, and the presentation is exquisite. Would reccomend!

Now that this place is under new management, I will definitely be coming here more often. It is one of the few healthy places to eat at in Jackson.

Great sushi joint in the middle of landlocked places! I loved their crunchy rolls, spicy rolls and the hot sake. The place is a bit small and doesnt have a sophisticated air around it.

Sushi was fresh and delicious. Great selection. Tuna sashimi was a very generous serving and wonderfully fresh tasting. Service was friendly and efficient.

Sushi is good. Try the monster role for a non-traditional, cheese-covered gem. Service is wretched. The wait staff can’t get their act together despite the small size. Takeout recommended!

Just okay… Bites are WAY to big. Waitress was not knowledgeable on wild caught or farm raised. We were told the salmon was wild caught… I suspect it was not(I almost spit it back out because it was so chewy) Ginger was just okay, rolls were okay. Nice presentation.

I am not a sushi connoisseur, but AKA carryout was excellent. I ordered spicy salmon tempura and shrimp tempura — both were huge, plenty of food for $ 12. As others mentioned, it’s a small place so waiting for your carryout order is a bit awkward, especially because it takes a good 15 minutes, which(from my understanding) is normal for sushi. I’ll definitely come back.

Positives: The portions were large. It appears they sacrificed a half a head of lettuce for the obligatory salad. The Saba, hamachi and unagi nigiri all looked great and tasted pretty good too, but didn’t quite live up to their appearance. I am sure their international(read sushi rolls with the rice on the outside and various sauces) would have been very good. That said, the nigiri was good enough that I ventured off the sushi menu… Negatives: The gyudon was not bad, but also not good. I don’t know how to describe it well. The flavor was weak and the beef didn’t look right, too pale. Should have stuck with the sushi menu. The non-sushi menu is the true test of a Japanese restaurant. Also, I don’t think the Ikura was fresh. A little mushy and in my experience the eggs should pop with flavor, but these were duds on arrival. Conclusion: Especially for a small town, I’d give thumbs up for the sushi. I would not recommend venturing off the sushi menu. If I lived in Jackson I’d probably go back on occasion. But for my money, I’ll likely see if any of the local Mexican joints have good taquitos next time I’m in town.

Holy maguro madness! This place was truly fantastic and I think this may be the first time I’ve ever given 5 stars to a place.(If you look through my other reviews, you’ll see I am not one to hesitate in the ventilation of negative reviews…) I was a little skeptical at first looking at the outside and then noticing right away there were no Japanese or other Asian customers upon walking in(sorry for the blatant profiling there, but that’s usually a pretty good indicator of quality, especially when it comes to sushi in many cases). I digress… Despite that, I was impressed with the cool looking interior, the lighting fixtures, the color scheme, the music(Radiohead came on! Thank you music gods!) and the friendly attitude of the hostess & wait staff. Thankfully they had my favorite Japanese beer: Kirin and the edamame were really good too. Not too salty and easy to pop the beans in your mouth from the shell. I ordered my favorite nigiri sushi: tuna(maguro), salmon and unagi. Plus I got a roll of some sort, but I am sorry I can’t remember the name. It had orange tobikko on the outside and I think there was crab/avocado in it. Everything was wonderful, but I was most impressed by the tuna. Good god, in the 10 years I lived in Japan, I don’t think I ever had such a thick slice of meaty, red tuna like that. Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but I’m trying to drive home a point here: folks, you can’t find quality tuna like that very often and the fact that I am finding it in an in-land State — not too mention in the MIDDLE of that in-land State is pretty much a damn miracle. Ugh. When I think about all the Japanese people I know in the Novi-Farmington Hills-Plymouth and Ann Arbor area who are saddened by the closing of Izakaya Sanpei and are frustrated with the poor quality of Sakura, Fumi and Yotsuba, I can’t help but think you all need to petition to have Aka Sushi open up a location in that area — or rent a party bus to take you all the way to Jackson and back. Well, that’s my two yen. It was a great evening :-)

Great sushi, quick service. I’ve been to lots of good sushi restaurants in Ann Arbor and this place holds it own with any of them. Crunch Munch roll is terrific.

My favorite Japanese restaurant. The food is always good and so is the service. They have full section of sushi and sashimi including vegetable rolls. We really like the tempura appetizer as well. The place is small but comfortable. It is great place for pick up too.

Second time here: just as delicious as the first. Friendly, personable staff and small yet comfortable space. Sushi is prepared at the bar, in plane view and the whole kitchen is visible but not intrusive. Sushi: delightful and fresh. There are plenty of non-cream cheese options, cooked and raw options. Appetizers: the goyoza are light, delicate and flavorful. I prefer the fried version for the texture.
