If they fixed up their décor, this place would be a hit! The food is great, the ladies are so sweet, and they are so reasonably priced. They are right on northern boulevard with a great location(unless you’re driving, then the parking sucks!). And they are 24⁄7 which makes it me and my friends late night go to spot for cholados after a long day at work. I recommend the cholado as well as their empanadas! But warning they only take cash, plus side is that they have an ATM but of course it charges for transactions.

Kind of a hole in the wall spot of the corner of the street. Couple of tables for those who want to have a seat. Stopped in here during a long wait at Mama’s Empanadas next door. I needed a dessert fix and opted for tres leches and chocolate cake. Bought a slice of each and was satisfied. The tres leches was delicious. I love when my tres leches has the perfect amount of moisture in everybite, not just the bottom. The chocolate cake was realllly chocolate lol, very sweet but very good.

A nice perk. $ 3.50 a pop. One of my favorite cakes of all time– While a bit heavy on the whipped cream frosting, the interior of their tres leches cake was nicely drenched. This was my mom’s first time having it and she loved it so much! I just wish we both shared an individual slice as one is a lot after a Pio Pio meal from across the street. Other than that, J’adore!!!

When the line is way too long at mamas empanadas I’ll stop in here to get my fix. All I have really tried is the empanada with beef and potatoes and the Hawaiian which both are tasty.

be warned; this is not a fancy place so i’m not really focusing on ambiance. i only dropped by here to pick up a snack pre-dinner(yeah, i eat a lot). One of the best things about queens is that many mexican bakeries carry chicharrons(crispy pig skin); one of my favorite things to eat and is interpreted differently across cultures. Some places have chunks of meat clinging to the strip of fat/skin(imagine a think inch wide by 7 inch strip of pork belly). So of course, when i saw a basin of this stuff, i immediately ordered it. Some strips looked dried out, some looked fresher, and it comes with two red bliss potatoes. the pork was chewy, fatty and salty deliciousness on it’s own. the red bliss potatoes are a great accompaniment to balance out the salty fat. Although, i’ve had better potatoes on the side at other mexican bakeries. Overall; $ 4 for a heavy snack/small meal with no fillers and quality ingredients, which is a great bargain.

A friend introduced me to this place because he lives in the area. Their breads aren’t served fresh and hot but they do serve some real good pandebono(Colombian Cheese Bread). After having my first taste here and raved about it to my Colombian coworker, she bought me a pandebono from Astoria. Unfortunately, it was not as good as what they serve here. Their hot coffee is made with frothed milk. Pandebono and coffee-the perfect duo to start the morning.

Pan Fino(85th and Northern Blvd.)is a great breakfast only spot. Its not White Castle where you stumble in there drunk at 3am, screaming at the top of your lungs(because you still think you’re actually inside the club) and at the same time threatening the girl behind the counter while ordering your meal. The pastries and breads are awesome and they have the best prepared coffee of any other bakery in that neighborhood. So what’s my gripe? This place is a cash cow and the owner does very little to maintain a clean appearance. The sidewalks outside are grimy and black and often you can smell the garbage that was just taken off the sidewalk. Doesn’t exactly prep me for something tasty as I walk in. In addition, you’ll be standing on line and once in a while spot a fly(like a kid in a candy store) stuffing itself with pastries inside the refrigerated display case. No wonder my pan con queso tasted extra sweet today!!!

2.5 stars and heres why. but first, im the first one to review this place and thats not a surprise cause this place is really mediocre but me and my mates were starving like at 4am and what were we supposed to do? this place is colombian i believe. i had a ‘calentado’ which really means ‘re-heated left-overs’ — now, before you non-hispanics go eww, im sure these are not other peoples leftover but instead, its a very hmm simple dish made out of rice and beans. im sure you had guessed that from the beginning. youre so good at profiling latinos. 3 stars for you. so, that weak ass plate of rice and beans came with a fried egg and a piece of steak. the steak was thin and low quality … and somehow, i ended up paying around 9 $ for that? i kinda felt ripped off(the next day, of course) but it was 4am and i was hungry and tipsy. 9 $? of course i have 9 dollars … i have like 23 dollars and 75 cents in my pocket right about now… shit, im rich. stupid stupid stupid… but if youre drunk, then its cool do you know what i mean?
