This place feels like a store that I could find in Chinatown somewhere, but with a little less edge and pressure from the people behind the counter. There seems to be a little bit of everything here, from souvenirs to scents(read: perfume/cologne) to suitcases. It was at one point in time called Universal Luggage, but I’m sure for the local community«Little India Emporium» had a nicer ring to it. The guys here working the counter are nice and contend they have a little bit of everything for everyone, except food. Most of the stuff here is cash only and one good thing they have going for themselves is they are open later than most shops(8PM — wow!). I’m not sure if they’re catering to tourists(especially since there are so few in Jackson Heights), but what I am certain is that everything here is fairly cheap. I’ve realized that people would probably come here to buy these things, instead of venturing down to more urbanized neighborhoods like Chinatown where this stuff is a dime a dozen. There is less competition here, thus less pressure to sell off what is left.
