El Coyote Restaurant

Why are people giving this place 3 and half stars is beyond my understanding they must be related. When it comes to décor and ambience I would give it 3 stars the place is nice and they have live mariachi playing songs for all the tables but, that doesn’t make up for the bad food
unfortunately the food was tasteless I had the chicken mole and my date had the salmon both were tasteless the only good thing was the chicken quessadillas we ordered as an appetizer.
The food is also overpriced if you dont mind spending almost $ 90.00 dollars on two entrees an appetizer and one drink and bad food then give it a try.
I will not be coming back to this place you can get much better Mexican food for a lot less on Roosevelt ave trust me.

The food was very good. Not what I expected at all. The food had a very fresh and clean taste. And most importantly it wasnt greasy. We had the fried calumari with this amazing tamarindo sauce, he had the Paella El Coyote, which was huge. I had the Parga Veracruz and like I said the portions were very generous. The Margaritas (molida) are pretty strong but good. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for one thing… They sang me Happy Birthday. Awkward, but I dug the Sombrero :) it hid my flushed face ;)

The food is great here… no question. However, the service sometimes is left up for question. We didn’t have a good experience one time where the waiter took over an hour to get an appetizer we ordered, and room another half an hour to get us our check after we had finished… we literally stood up and began leaving after leaving all the money in the table. I could have understood this if it was the dinner or lunch rush. However, in the middle of the afternoon and the restaurant half empty. No excuse there for taking so long. I have been back since and the service was good so I can’t trash this place all that much. However, let’s hope that was an isolated incident.

Worst service of it all, we asked for a STEAK FAJITA! And 30 minutes later flautas are served… Ok we let it slide because perhaps honest mistake… Another 30 years pass by… And no food in sight… We order drinks and the bartender takes her sweet time to make them.: I guess the conversation with the waiter was so important and perhaps looking up at the ceiling was more intriguing than making money… She took out a bunch of drinks before making ours… Being in the service industry I get how You can get slammed all at once but really?! U are doing absolutely nothing but standing there serving premade drinks… Horrible… We ended up canceling our food cuz we had to leave… Bartender called the manager to cancel our food another 30 minutes waiting… Did the manager ever show? Of course not. He could care less about exactly why the customer decided to cancel. Worse manager /​bartender ever.

My friend and I walk in and we are sat. For 3 and a half minutes, we waited to be spoken to by a server. He asked us if we would like something to drink.
Not that friendly. Margaritas and food were good. Just good. Service was terrible.

I came to this place for some drinks. I really enjoyed the Maracuya Margaritas, but I didn’t really like the mojitos. Other than that, beautiful atmosphere. Great bar tenders. The food looked good even though I didnt eat. Really nice restaurant, definitely recommended.

I have never left a restaurant angry, until now. After waiting a few minutes to be seated (despite the restaurant being virtually empty) it took over 15 minutes to get our drinks after ordering. Then when the food finally arrived they had messed up the order, but we accepted it anyway as we had waited long enough. At the end of the meal we got the check and they had over charged us a few dollars for each drink. When we questioned the price difference on the menu versus the check they seemed reluctant to make it right. They did end up adjusting the price and we paid and made our way to the door, but not before the manager in the back gestured to us to get out. I am appalled at the way we were treated here and will not be returning. I’m still shocked that despite the poor service and us being one of three tables seated in the restaurant, the only interaction we had with management was them waving us out the door.

Worst restaurant experience imaginable. It was Tuesday night, and me and some friends decided to grab a bite and wanted to keep it local. We tried El Coyote as it was close by expecting for it to live up to its reviews. We were very wrong…
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a sign that said «please wait to be seated,» tick tock tick tock, several minutes go by and finally we get a seat in a restaurant that had more staff then customers. I guess they enjoyed watching us wait.
After grabbing a seat we explored the menu excited to get some food in. It was a long day and we were hungry. We finally order drinks and food. It was a long wait to get a waiter to our table and we were received that we were soon to be served… Well we were very wrong.
Our drinks took over 15 minutes to arrive. The margaritas were clearly not homemade like the menu stated and were something created from a drink mix. The bus boy who came to deliver us our food about 30 minutes after that, ran by our table to the wrong table and that wasn’t the only thing wrong… our orders were completely messed up with the meats that we ordered on our burritos.
After apologies from the waiter we decided to keep the food since we waited for so long and it was getting late. We finally finish our meals…
When the check arrived to our table, I noticed the prices for our food didn’t match the menu and were higher. We alerted the waiter who goes to the management and they huddle for 15 minutes discussing what to do. He finally comes back to our table with a new check that is discounted to the correct price and says they made the mistake because they have new menus…
We are about to get out of this distorter of a night and then… the management decides to aggressively shoo us out of the restaurant. It was unbelievable, I’ve never experienced anything as rude, literally a deer in the headlight moment «is this guy serious.»
Needless to say, never going back and the burritos and taco beef were similar to a step above taco bell.
Stay away.

Went here for lunch. Chips and salsa arrived immediately which was nice. I had the carnitas de puerco which was ok. My friend loved her fajitas. I also ordered some Togo food for friends. They got the order wrong but they said whatever they did get was good. The service is terrible. I tried to get any waiters attention for 20 minutes. At least 3 of them saw me but decided to ignore me. I just needed a check so I wouldn’t get a ticket. Then when I finally got the check I wanted to immediately give the waiter my credit card but he decided he would drop the check and run away as fast as possible while ignoring my request to please take the card. My friend said she was there for dinner on a Friday with a party of 2 and they were there almost 3 hrs and didn’t stay for dessert. So to cap it up I would say the food is good and the service stinks. You decide if you think it’s worth the wait

Well let’s start off with how horrible the service was tonight. First off the hostess tried to sit us at a table in the corner that was already partially obstructed by the table behind it, if we had sat there it would have left us very crowded. We chose to sit at the table next to it and then proceeded to wait. No one came to us. Not even to serve us water or to say they’d be right with us. More than once we saw the servers look at us and whisper to each other and walk off. After MORE than 15 minutes of not even being acknowledged by anyone besides the hostess, we walked out. This is absolutely ridiculous and I would NOT recommend this place without fair warning.

I was here last night with my girlfriend’s family for one of their birthday’s. I have mixed feelings about this place but overall I think it’s an ok place. I had an arroz con pollo which was pretty «wet» and my girlfriend had the quesadilla. Although we asked for the quesadilla, which is listed on the menu as an appetizer, to come with the main course, it came out with the other appetizers, one of which was the nachos, which was a HUGE disappointment. Every Mexican restaurant we went to, an order of nachos is pretty generic. Corn tortillas, CHEESE, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, choice of meat. It varies from place to place. But where do you go to get nachos and literally just get 7 tortilla chips, individually placed with cheese and the meat? This place right here. Nachos were a huge disappointment and mistake.
At the end, they gave us complimentary wine, which was more like a tea, served warm. It was DELICIOUS, definitely recommend it. It was sweet so if you like sweet wine, definitely seek this one
I would probably go back there and update this review or change it. The service was good. The food, I can think of a better Mexican place in the area.

I spent $ 71 with friends for delivery 2 chicken chimichangas 1 beef nachos w/​chicken and empanadas. I wish it was worth it but I should of cooked better. Nachos were not even nachos no more. Chimichangas so expensive and the chimichangas had no flavor and it was dry. Price wasn’t worth paying for. Wish they put more meat in the empanadas (it was was like just air in the empanadas).

Came here with a small group of friends on a Friday night. It was packed. We had margaritas that we all enjoyed, their chips and salsa were so good, spicy. Had the guac for an app which was very good, tasted fresh. Got the Mexican combo for dinner which was where they went wrong. I chose the beef which was sooo greasy and watery my taco was soaked through and completely fell apart. I couldn’t even eat it… Not sure why they would serve it like that. The service was ok but very slow.

I just had to remove 2 stars from my review after this last visit. The service here has always been slow as molasses, but this time takes the cake.
We ordered dinner and had to wait 40 minutes for our food. The fountain diet coke tasted horrible, was replaced with a can, and that can was expired. The waiter comes back and tells me that every can is expired, and gives me another watered down fountain soda. My nachos were cold, cheese was hard and oily. My husband loved his steak as usual.
They really need to work on their service. After the waiter puts your order in, he really couldn’t care less about when your order comes, because a bus boy delivers it. Complaining to the waiter accomplishes nothing, he didn’t even go to the kitchen to check on it — just kept saying it was coming. I’ll only be back if my husband drags me!

This place is horrible. You wait forever for your food. The food is not very good. Looking for a happy hour spot, its great. You get drunk and wont care about thier crappy food. But avoid this place. Looking for quality «Mexican» food? There are many more places in the neighborhood that are better than this place. Bottom line, you want cheap happy hour drinks to get drunk? This is the spot. Hungry? Find another spot.

I’ve come here a few times. Never been disappointed food is great & the atmosphere is lovely. Great service and fair prices !

I was excited to try this restaurant, omg! Worse mexican food i ever had, service is good but food doesnt taste like mexican, believe me…
Im mexican and i know how real mexican food taste, this taste like caned mexican food, i ordered hauchinango fish and cochonita pibil, i ate all of it because i was hungry but the place is really bad, is a bad restaurant that looks like a good one.

The food was great when it finally arrived. Good food but my god do u have to wait a long time for it. The place was rather empty when we got there and our order took an HOUR to arrive. We ordered tacos and burritos. Doesn’t take an hour to make, sorry.

This place is nothing close to good. I walked in thinking it would be a nice, tasty Mexican meal. It was nothing close to that.
I ordered a mariscada, which was supposed to be seafood in a white sauce. They bring out a bowl of what seemed to be a soup with a bunch of clam and mussel shells floating around in it. I was a bit confused that the waiter didn’t bring me a spoon because for a moment I thought it was a soup. Wrong.
Then I decided to try it, and those mussels and clams were ridiculous. That shouldn’t even be called seafood, it was so small and everything inside the shells had fallen out into the «soup» of a sauce. It was hard to find, and there was supposed to be scallops in there which I found none of. And not to mention the shrimp, there was only about 3 or 4 floating around in there. This came with a side of sweet plantains, which were only 5 small ones on a huge plate. I was very unhappy with my dish.
The appetizers were ridiculous too. We ordered coconut shrimp and bocadillos, which was like a mix of empanadas, tacos, and wings. Those wings and tacos were half cold when they brought them out. It was OBVIOUS that it was frozen food. Seriously?
As for the coconut shrimp, it was tasty, but $ 9 for 4 shrimps? Ridiculous! We also ordered fried calamari which was a very decent portion.
However, not everything was bad. My grandmother ordered a tasty salmon that was well seasoned with a side of rice and beans. My aunt ordered enchiladas, which were only 3, but they were big enough. My father ordered ribs which looked very tasty too.
The tres leches dessert was the highlight of the whole meal. Loved it!
Not everything might be bad, but I will definitely not return to a restaurant that serves frozen food for appetizers.

Alright so my wife has been telling me she loves Mariachi ever since I known her and being that El Coyote offers mariachi on Friday and Sunday (so they claim) I decided to throw part of her 30^th surprise Birthday gathering there. Now I made reservations a month in advance clearly stating the reason why Im hosting it there is because of the Mariachi Band and it is crucial for them to be there, we celebrated a day after Thanksgiving and once again i brought it to their attention asking if the band would be available on the 28^th and they clearly without hesitating responded yes no worries.
I most of have called 3 or 4 times prior to the big day, all this time they reassured me yes they would be there, the band has a contract with the restaurant and they need to show. 3 days prior to the 28^th I called and there was a different tune, now they weren’t sure and I needed to call back on Friday to confirm which was the same day and pretty much left me no room to make other arrangements. Make story short the Mariachi band wasn’t there, they promised there was going to be tables put together in the shape of a «U» to put all my 30 guests together, «THAT WAS A LIE» (No Maury). Part of my party had to sit at a different table. We ordered and as per they mentioned our party was too big and it took them almost 2 hours to get the food we ordered.
Food was ok, wont lie. It wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad either. The one star rating is alone on the way they do customer service, don’t lie or promise service you wont be able to deliver. Also if they cant host such a big party then don’t offer that option, only one waiter taking care of all 30 of us and when you would ask someone else for some service they would pretend like they would take care of you and not do anything, later on we were told we could only order from the one and only waiter serving our tables and no one else could take any order from us, not even for drinks.
Coyote y’all disgusted me with your service, large parties please stay away by all means. If I would of have known about their service I would of have moved the reservation to another restaurant. SHAME SHAME SHAME.
